Pros:Nothing!Cons:Not given someone else our reservation since we were not there on time. My SUV was given away to someone else because we did not get there at 12:00pm. Our copilot had a family emergency he Of course had to leave and we were held back for two hours. Needless to say I brought all my family (6 people) and the lady said, “Your car was given to someone else because you weren’t here by 12:00pm. Sorry.” And they did not accommodate us to anything else because they were out of SUV’s. She also said since I reserved it but didn’t pay for it they gave it away. I was so upset. Moral of the story being extra cash because we had to pay triple of what I had reserved my car or just pay the reservation online.Reviewed 29 May 2021

Pros:Shuttle brought us to the rental car area with 10-15 companies all located in a complex. No one was at Dollar. We walked around for a bit and the office was closed, no cars around. We ended up having to go with a random company nearby and paying much more.Cons:Shuttle brought us to the rental car area with 10-15 companies all located in a complex. No one was at Dollar. Cheated US on taxes for liability insuranceCons:They gave us an outrageous price for liability insurance (told My girlfriend who rented the same day she had a special of $70 for the week, while we were charged $25 per day over 7 days. We're told that was the least amount of liability insurance under Mexican law and the cheapest. Bologna!! Won't trustndillar again.Reviewed 19 June 2017

Prepare to pay for mandatory insurance when renting a car in Mexico.Pros:Drop off was very simple and clear cut. Price was as expected.Cons:Pickup was slow, but I think it is because people do not understand mexican insurance. Maybe you could do a better job of making that information available when people book cars. My car was listed at $12 for the week and ended up $189 for the week with full insurance. I knew it would not be $12, that's insane to think that will be the cost. I was actually pleased with the final cost , less than I expected. People renting for the fist time i Mexico are not prepared.Reviewed 23 Apr 2017

Be prepared to haggle over the cost of the insuranPros:The cost of the rental car was something like $5 a day, but the insurance is where they get you.Cons:Basically traded away 3 hours of our vacation time to have breakfast and get full coverage insurance for the week. They quoted us over $500 for the insurance, if we wanted to pay it out of pocket.Reviewed 25 Mar 2017

Deceiving PriceCons:The price quoted online was deceiving. It said $2 a day, when in fact it was $2 for the car but mandatory $30 a day fees... Never a nice surprise. What I expected to cost $4 ended up costing $72...Reviewed 20 Mar 2017

Pros:The car worked fine, and pick up and drop off (at the airport in Cabo) was easy.Cons:The cost--$390 for one week--is excessive. I have never paid that much for a rental car before, either in Europe or America. I understand that Mexico has strict rules concerning insurance coverage, and that's fine. I was perfectly willing to pay extra for the required insurance. But this seemed to be well over what is reasonable.Reviewed 19 Mar 2017

Tried to steal from me.Cons:We ended up not needing such a big car, so we asked for a smaller rental, going from a minivan to a standard. The representative refused to give us a price for the smaller car. He wouldn't call anyone, and he wouldn't check his books. The counter person did EVERYTHING to get us in the van, so he could take us to the off site rental agency, and then we would be trapped at his rental agency. He was a scammer, and an embarrassment to Dollar Rental Car. We went to the counter two stands over, and got an extremely fair price, and rented it on the spot. Again, Dollar cannot control their desk in Mexico. I am extremely unhappy with Dollar, and will bring this up to my corporate officer in charge of rentals.Reviewed 19 Feb 2017

Pros:clean carCons:a car rental with Alamo at Cabo San Lucas Airport for 1/28/17. We landed at the airport yesterday, In Los Cabos Mexico, and greeted appropriately at the airport by the Alamo people, and brought via shuttle a short distance to a center about 4 blocks away. We went in there were 2 total families in the van including us. We went into the Alamo rental area and were greeted nicely. We were talking to the rental person and he informed us of a mandatory liability insurance for damage to other cars, that is not included in the already purchased alliance insurance. He showed me in the hotwire small print that some international car rentals have mandatory insurance requirements that result in additional charges at the time of pick up. I also purchased the alliance insurance offered at the time of rental that has sufficed in the past when I have rented in Mexico. My issue is that one of the people at the office then came in when we were discussing this charge of $220 for the insurance and asked if we were owners of The timeshare we are going to then the fee would be waived if we went to their timeshare at a different hotel. I am not sure how this works in general for an Alamo car rental agency but we felt the charge was now arbitrary and we ended up paying the additional $220 above our rental and the Alliance insurance. This is inappropriate and I do not think this is how a Alamo transaction and use of services is set up. If this is typical I need to know so I am not subjected to this in the future and I will not use the services of Alamo.Reviewed 5 Feb 2017

Cons:Charged for scrapes that I thought were ordinary wear and tear. Also, in Mexico, you have to get insurance. Not disclosed by Dollar in advance.Reviewed 10 Jan 2017

Dollar in San Jose Del Cabo is a very bad dealPros:NothingCons:Having my fare doubled for liability insurance with no notice at all from Kayak in the fare breakdown, paying for a car that should have been put to pasture 10,000 miles ago. Having Dollar look for any reason possible to charge me for damages to the car upon return. Getting hit up by Dollar employees to sign up for time share presentations on Dollar propertyReviewed 4 Jan 2017
