Hertz stiffed me!!!!Pros:Nothing. They told me they have me on a “do not rent” list. Why? Upon calling their “do not rent” center personnel, I was informed that their records reflect that I have an outstanding bill for the period from 10/28/2016 to 11/04/2016 for a car rental in Italy. I was in Italy last year. However: 1.) the period of time I had a Hertz car rental was from 10/20/2016 to 11/04/2016 and 2.) the rental was part of an all inclusive package purchase for me by my travel agency. Furthermore, this is the first I have learned of this problem. I have never been a fan of Hertz. After I was turned away I went to my preferred company, Enterprise and was treated well. It did cost me more than the vehicle I had reserved through Hertz, so as far as I am concerned, Hertz owes me money for the cost difference which I will request in the process of getting them to correct their Re Ross about the 2016 rentalCons:Hertz blows. !Reviewed 23 Nov. 2017

Debit card confusionCons:The person serving at the airport counter was not very helpful. Kayak had accepted payment on a debit card but he said that Hertz didn't accept debit cards. As Kayak had already deducted the money from my account I stood my ground and Hertz agreed to let me have the car with a credit card for security. This needs to be sorted out between Hertz and Kayak. The car was generally in good condition and we had no problems with it; however, the windscreen wipers were badly worn which made visibility poor when it rained.Reviewed 9 Nov. 2017

Stupid PeoplePros:The car was great.Cons:When I stopped to drop the car off, I stopped at the first Hertz out side the airport. I asked the person at the counter where and when the shuttle would come, because I had to catch a flight soon. They were busy. After sitting there for 45 minutes, I asked again about the airport shuttle again. Same answer out front. After 15 more minutes, I got service. When I asked the agent about the shuttle, he said I was at the wrong place that I could drop the car off at the terminal. What a bunch of stupid people. Three people at the service desk and they didn't know anything about airport drop off. I will never rent from Hertz again.Reviewed 27 Sep. 2017

DisappointedPros:The mini van was comfortable, roomy, with great gas mileage.Cons:Charged for a full tank of gas when we filled up prior to returning car at 4am. Attendant and as no where to be found. After waiting awhile, we left rental return to check in. Attendant appeared, checked mileage, and said we'd be emailed final receipt. Never received email. Paid $202 at time of reservation, indicating payment in full. Was them charged $73 after turning in car, which included $27 to fill a gas tank that was already full. (NOTE: luckily we have receipt for gas fill up and was told -- only after calling to find out why the extra charges...) that Hertz will consider crediting $27 fill up charge if receipt is emailed to them -- which I definitely plan on doing. We are very disappointed with this particular Hertz experience. I feel this was a flagrant attempt to rip us off. After all, most people don't ask for gas receipt when filling up. Luckily we did and are able to prove there was dishonestly and deception involved in the final transaction.Reviewed 16 May 2017

Rachel BadgerPros:The car I was given to rent was clean.Cons:The car (Chevy Cruz) was most uncomfortable for my parents, specifically, the leg room in the passenger seat (where my mom sat) and back seat (where my dad sat). In addition, prior to returning the car, I filled the gas tank (which was only half empty). When the email bill came, I noticed a charge of $155 for fuel and service. Please note that this was 222 mile trip which took 11 hours. Currently trying to have this issue resolved. Words of wisdom....prior to leaving the parking lot, take the time to inspect the car to make sure it will be a good fit. Secondly, if you fill the tank, confirm with the incoming attendant that that he/she noted the tanks was full. Finally, do not accept an email receipt....go directly to the office and get a hard copy and then check it to make sure the amount charged is correct.Reviewed 11 Feb. 2017

Pros:The car was fine and got very good gas mileageCons:During both pick up and drop off of the rental vehicle, one of the two agents on duty had to leave, despite customers waiting in line, to “drop off and pick up keys“. I did notice the agent ( at drop off ) had one key when he left his post with 3 to 4 people waiting in line.Reviewed 8 Sep. 2020

Uninterested clerksPros:The car was what was expected.Cons:Clerk at counter did not look up at all when I approached the counter. A second clerk came in and handled my rental. No review of the car. When I got to the car, there were marks all down the right side. No one in the garage to discuss this with. Went back to the counter, same pre-occupied clerk sat while a third person came to the counter. Asked this clerk about noting the damage on the car. His comment was, "don't worry all of our fleet is in this shape. They won't say anything about the damage. " I did have the marks noted and got a document for proof if needed when returned. Drink cans where found in the car stuffed under the driver's seat.Reviewed 29 May 2017

Unsafe DropOff and unhelpful Hertz staffPros:Good price for one way to NYCons:The drop off location was a collision center in a rough area of Queens. There was no safe and secure place to leave the car and no Hertz signage. I did not feel safe waiting for an Uber there. I called Hertz and asked to drop the vehicle 5 miles away at LaGuardia. They transferred me 4 times and couldn’t figure out a way to do that without charging me more. They told me to discuss it with the counter clerk at LaGuardia. That guy just dialed the 800 number and handed me the phone. It was a reasonable request to protect their car and my safety. Eventually they did not charge me extra but I had to argue with a phone rep who just kept reading her script instead of thinking like a reasonable human being.Reviewed 22 May 2018
