Pros:The Payless booth was closed in Houston, so I had to go to the Avis booth to pick up my car. Also, I flew into Bush Intercontinental airport and had scheduled my pick up at that airport; however, I was booked to fly into Hobby airport instead......of which I did not want to do. Why would I rent a car at Hobby when I was flying in to Intercontinenal????? I specifically put in Intercontinental airport in my "search" for a rental car. Avis charged me $171.77 for renting at their airport instead. Please try to help me get that refunded to me. I contacted Payless and have a case # 34321114 but have not heard from them. Pros:The drop off process was very user friendly. We had an early drop off, so had to use the after hour drop off. Drop off was smooth and quick, maybe totaling 5 minutes tops. Price was cheap enough that we got a little better option than we would with Avis or Budget at the same price.Cons:So Payless has now merged with Avis and Budget. This is a good idea, but neither of the Avis, nor Budget clerks knew how to link into Payless' account to pull up our reservation. After a solid 20 minutes and multiple texts to their boss, we were finally issued our rental. There was no opportunity to look it over for damage, they just kind of pushed us out of the building with vague directions as to where the vehicle was located. We found much damage (cracked front bumper, dents in the doors, tire rash to the rear, chip in the windshield, and a variety splotches missing in the paint from rocks) but were never told about it, or relieved to find out that they already knew about it. Also, a weird addition, we kept finding finger nail clippings in random interior spots... glove box, center council, in the media cup holder, on the rear seatbelts... just strange.Reviewed 9 Mar. 2021

Cons:Pickup was not easy and hard to navigate through. Additionally, I brought back the car a full day early and was not issued a refund because I pre-paid. worst possible customer service!Pros:The return at IAH went very well - the lady was very nice.Cons:Horrible customer service. The Van driver was parked in the wrong spot at the airport. I walked over and had to knock on the window 3 times before he replied "get in". I asked if he could open the back door for my luggage and he said "no, just put on the other seat." The receptionist was almost as bad. She never took her ear phones out so she couldn't hear my replies to her questions. Finally, with complete attitude, she takes our her ear phones and says " have you ever rented a car before?" To which I reply "not from Payless, and not likely I ever will again". Pros:The car was Ok. for a $110 USDCons:Please pay attention to customers reservation prices. The reservation was made to pick up the car at hobby airport but my plane arrived to George Bush Airport. I tried to get the car at George Bush airport and the lady at Avis told me that it was possible but she did not mentioned anyting about price changes. So when I arrived to the car and read the papers, surprise !!!! the price was not $110, The new price was more than $450 USD !! Unbelievable. so I went back to the office and cancelled the operation. Left me stranded in the cityCons:I booked an economy class vehicle with Payless. When I arrived to pick it up, the employee at the front desk told me that he could not give me an economy class car, since there was only one available, and that he would have to charge me $9 extra a day for a midsize vehicle. I insisted on getting the economy class vehicle, but he swiped my card the wrong way, and told me it was getting rejected. He did the same for my 3 other cards. I called the card company, and they were not receiving any transaction requests. He refused to swipe my card twice, citing company policy. Ultimately, this left me stranded at the airport without a vehicle, and it took me more than 4 hours to find an alternate form of transportation. Pros:Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience with any of this process at the Hobby Payless/AVIS location. I hate leaving bad reviews however each part of the process was full of problems and deceiving tactics.Cons:They had no vehicles ready to pick up that were in the size that I had a confirmation number for. They use this excuse to force you into having to pay to upgrade to another vehicle. I was asked to either wait (an unknown amount of time) or pay 20.00 a day more for a truck. Then after you agree to the new price they tell you they will email you all the paperwork. So you leave with no proof of cost and absolutely no paperwork. I logged in to my credit card account later that day and noticed I was charged 540.00. My original rental was confirmed as a full size car at 310.00 and that included the taxes and fees. So if you add the 20.00 each day you will get 60.00+ a few dollars for additional taxes. So let's add 20.00 for those. So it should have been 390.00. The drop off was easy and I spoke to the lady checking me back in and asked her if I would be charged an additional hour because I arrived at 11:09 and I was supposed to be back at 11:00. She said absolutely not. She knew I had to wait on 2 cars to figure out how to return there car and make their way into the lot. They is why I was 9 minutes late. She even said that she would make sure I wouldn't be charged for the additional hour. Guess what..... I got charged for 31.00 additional dollars for the hour.Reviewed 12 Apr. 2021

Pros:Quick process. Showed up they had my reservation they were ready to go took me less than 5 minutes to get my vehicle. Upon returning, staff saw I had oversized item and instead of making me transfer to a shuttle they drove me to the airport in my vehicle. Very much appreciated!Cons:No improvements needed. Pros:Staff was helpful in getting us a rental.Cons:Had a change of schedule and had to arrive in HOU 2 days early. Called to change reservation & was tolf, "No problem. Use same Confirmation #. As long as rental did not exceed original agreement it would be fine." Unable to use Confirmation #. Agent did get us a vehicle, but unable to cancel existing agreement! Also, helped us out by upgrading to a larger 3 row SUV for the two of us. We were hoping to "test drive" the compact jeep requested.Reviewed 12 Jun. 2021
