The car rental pick up was atrocious. There was at least 100 people in line ahead of me and took more than an hour to get into a car. That’s unacceptable. The car itself was fine. The drop off was extremely easy.

vehicle was not full of gasoline. ordered a mid-size SUV and was given a 14 passenger van at a higher rate because they did not have a proper size SUV. there was no windshield water. windows were dirty all the way around.

I was able to return the car to a different location from the place where I picked it up. Hertz ( the agents at the return location at Ft. Myers Airport ) were wonderful , real professional and I do appreciate all their assistance. My many thanks.

Cons:

The Herz office where we booked our car through Kayak did not have any cars available. They said that a "glitch" in the system was allowing cars to be booked through Kayak and other consolidators, even though there were no cars available, even at the time of booking. This was a terrible situation, which should never have occurred. Kayak needs to work with Herz to correct the problem. I'm not inclined to use Kayak ever again. We were unable to get a car at the last minute, and had to cancel our plans.

The car we received had been obviously hit and not reported or fixed. We picked it up and went back to hotel to grab the family. We opened the back latch of the van amd the whole end of fin with back stop light came off. We called back to hertz, nothing they could do. They noted it in our contract which was good- so far we know of, but it was a safety issue. They said there was no other vehicle that would fit seven in their inventory. We asked if there’s a different location they sent us there and they told us they could do nothing for us. There is absolutely no easy way to rent vehicles during this time which must be related to Covid. We felt we were given the runaround and absolutely no support whatsoever. We kept the vehicle drove to our next destination which was an hour away. Used it very limited for fear something else might break. Dropped it back off where picked it up at the end of our trip. It was a joke and nightmare. When we returned it they said, that vehicle can’t be rented out it’s a safety issue! We said we know but when we had it you did nothing for us! No credit given. I am reporting this to the Hertz corporate, not sure it will help. A lot of money for a piece of junk and extremely poor port service!

Pros:

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Drop off at SRQ was very easy.

Cons:

The original office was closed and Enterprise did not have my phone# to let me know. Fortunately the nearest Enterprise location turned out to be where they were expecting us. Unfortunately, after driving the car for a couple of days we discovered that the dash was full of ants. We took it to Sarasota airport to trade in, and they were overwhelmed with Christmas travelers, so we ended up with a very comfortable pickup truck..

Our plane landed at 6:00 PM. Your remote pickup, about 5 miles from the airport, closed at 6:00 with no recourse to pick up the car we' paid or elsewhere, nor were we make aware when we booked of the 6:00 closure, even though our pick up time would have conflicted. Calls to the Payless "helpline" (there's a mis-nomer if ever there was one) fell on totally unconcerned ears. We had to pay that night for an Uber to our hotel, then again the next day for another uber to pick up the car. I hope you don't expect me to ever use payless again.

Kayak falsely advertised my Payless rental as "in terminal" at Fort Myers, it was not, the location was 15 miles away without shuttle service and closed 10 minutes after I landed. I had to rent an entirely different vehicle at almost twice the price. Payless would not return my calls, I had to dispute the charges with Amex

If when I booked the rental for RSW airport, the car was actually at the airport. Not 30 miles away and then they charged me more than double what I originally paid. Terrible terrible experience. I would never book through this again. So deceitful.

Ok...where should I start? For starters they didn't have the car I reserved. However, I did start at the wrong Payless location so I will take partial blame. I still feel like they could of provided a better car. The car I received was disgustingly dirty, one headlight was out, and the smell of cigar smoke was awful. I called many times to complain and try to get the headlight fixed, but the customer service was pathetic at best. Never fully understanding my issue. I ended up popping the hood and fixing the headlight myself. I will NEVER.....NEVER EVER NEVER EVER rent through Payless again.
