Gave me unsafe car in the dark
Cons: I rented a car after work on Friday to take to the eastern Sierras for a long weekend. When I picked up the car it was dark out. They gave me a form to do a car inspection. The car body was fine, and nothing popped out as bad on it (the first car they had me look at needed an oil change). I didn't even think to look at the wheels. I parked it overnight inside garage, then left the following morning. Three hours into our trip we stopped for lunch. On the walk out to the car I noticed a bit of hubcap missing on the front left wheel. It turned out to not be hubcap, but actual wheel! The actual wheel was damaged, exposing part of the bead of the tire. I immediately called payless, and was told to take it to the closest payless (about 2 hours away). After driving for about 30 minutes, I was a bit worried about an impending blowout (on a front tire, no less) and decided to pull over and put the spare tire on. To my frustration, I found that our rental car had no spare tire! Nervously, we drove the rest of the way to the closest payless in Fresno, where we were initially told it would be no problem, and that they would swap cars out for us. The only catch was the car needed to be returned to Fresno?! They did finally offer us a "high millage" minivan, that we could take one way, which we politely declined.
At that point we cancelled the rest of the payless rental and got a one way rental from dollar, that was affordable, drivable, had a spare tire, and the agent was extremely helpful. When we were just about to leave, the payless employee came out and notified us that his manager told him we would potentially be charged for the damaged wheel.
So... Overall, payless rented us an unsafe vehicle, turned our 5-6 hour day of travel into 11, and may make us financially responsible for the whole thing. They haven't yet, but it's a call I'm not really looking forward to.

Pros: The counter person seemed to care
Cons: I reserved an SUV because I was bringing my family. I had a stroller 7 bags 2 kids and my wife and I. We waited 2.5 hours for a car with a 2 year old and an 11 week old out in the cold. They did not have the vehicle I reserved and tried putting me in a Elantra I couldn't even put my stroller in it. Luckily my family drove up and was able to bring their truck to grab my stroller and one bag that wouldn't fit. The answer to the issue by Payless was "sorry" I will lot be using this system or that car rental again if my family wasn't there Me my wife and kids would be stuck

Cons: This was my first time renting a car from an airport. I was not clearly explained the pricing for "full coverage" and found out the cost of my rental was four times the amount I thought it would be. Had I been explained the cost of the coverage, I would not have agreed to it specially since I have my own car insurance. I figured it was just extra coverage, something trivial. Needless to say I was not happy with the end of rental.

Bad Overall Experience
Cons: They never mentioned about the additional fees. A 70$ initial statement turned into 190$. Over that, the car was not in a driveable condition - the brakes were very loose. I returned the car in a day when I was scheduled to rent it for 4 days! Payless never again!

Misleading search result
Pros: I like Enterprise & prefer to use them for my car rentals
Cons: What I did not like about this Kayak listing was that I searched for car rentals at the Oakland, CA airport. The search result gave me an Enterprise location that was 30 minute drive from the airport, with no shuttle service. I felt the search result was misleading. Fortunately, I checked the address of the Enterprise location provided by the search result, and found out it was not at the Oakland airport. I was able to cancel the Kayak reservation and book directly with Enterprise for a car at the airport.

Trust, But Verify!
Pros: The Enterprise Staff eventually accommodated me, but the location the suggested airport rental was actually downtown.
Cons: We've had reservations for over a month only to get there and find out there were no cars available for anyone except Gold members! They were waiting on cars to come in and couldn't tell us how long it would be. Several people in front of us waiting. We were told after initial check-in that we would only have to wait 15-20 minutes (I asked). It turned out to be over an hour! The worst part was not knowing if even after an hour when they would have a car for us, as they did not even know. Another guy had an appointment at Pixar and was very distressed that they had no answers for him either. I asked someone that worked there if this was normal and was told "sometimes". That is not acceptable and I will never rent a car at least at the Oakland cite with Hertz.

Deceptive on Kayak
Pros: Despite the mistake on my Kayak rental, Hertz was very helpful in finding me a car that while not what I rented, was good enough to get me through the trip successfully.
Cons: Have to be very careful on the rental location on Kayak. Despite doing a search for oakland airport, it gave me a location and I rented the care from downtown oakland, which didn't do me any good.

Be Careful of Sat. Hours
Pros: I liked the price of the vehicle and overall, the vehicle I paid in advance for but the person who checked me out bumped the car as she was backing it out, damaging it.
Cons: I absolutely did not like the fact that the car was rented to me for
2:00 p.m. for a week rental, returning the vehicle at 2 p.m. but the office is closed on a Sat. at 12:00 p.m. so I had to run around trying to find another open location and fight over being charged for dropping the car off to another location. I was not informed in my rental that the office closes after 12:00 p.m. on a Sat. and is closed on a Sunday. Again, I rented the car at 2:00 p.m. The person checking me out should have made it very clear that I'd have to return the vehicle by 12:00 p.m. and I should have been given a discount for the abbreviated rental hours.

Bad service, multiple locations
Pros: I'm still dealing with Hertz and my trips been over for 24 hours now. My girlfriend and I rented a car to go to the Grand Canyon over the holiday. I had a reservation for noon at the Oakland Hertz on Webster street. When I got there I was told (along with others that had been waiting ) that there were no cars available. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me while renting from this location. They told me come back and after getting some lunch and walking around, there was a car available for me. The car was fine, no issues there.
I rented the car for a week and when the car was due in the location was actually closed for the new years holiday at 1pm. Well there was someone there but they said they could not take my car anyway. They sent me to the downtown location, which was also closed but had a drop off. I dropped the car off, put the keys in the drop box and figured I was done finally. I woke up today and another 60 dollars was charged to my card as if I still had the car out on rental. I called both locations and after 24hrs since dropping the car off the return still hasn't been "processed". I think the keys are still in the drop box even. I foresee me having to talk repeatedly with both locations to make sure I don't pay for the additional rental day.
Perhaps renting from the airport location would of been a wiser move.

Cons: Rental reservation was at 6pm, which was also the time hey closed. Without any notification, I show up shortly after 6 (in the rain) to a locked building. Customer service could not supply another car at another time or location without increasing the rate 3 fold. At the very least I was able to get a refund, but ended up booking a last minute reservation elsewhere for a higher rate.

Pros: I reserved this car believing the location was the Oakland Airport. It was actually 15 minutes from the airport and I needed to take an Uber from the airport to pick up the car. Once there, the pickup was fast and the attendant was friendly. The car only had 700 miles on it (practically brand new). The cost was very reasonable. To drop off the car, we once again had to take an Uber to the airport from the rental location, but that was not a big inconvenience, and everything worked out great.
Cons: The pick up was over 2hrs and the staff didn't seem to know what to do with the booking. We were misinformed with renting a better car - the cost did not include taxes and so subsequently we couldn't afford that car. If we'd been better informed from the start, we wouldn't have needed to waste 2hr of our holiday.

Poor pickup experience, and unnecessary extra car
Pros: Pick-up truck instead of an economy car
Cons: There were no car available at pick up (Oakland airport).
All lot of customers were forced to wait indefinitely, becsuse their/our car were not ready. Theo only customers that left the Budget counter accepted a paid upgrade.
In the end, the attendant offered to give us a pick up truck, so eventually off we went.

Pros: Service was exactly as you would expect - not the fastest but not too slow. The car was cheap, loud and certainly not exciting. If you plan on driving a lot, the prepaid gas price at Thrifty (Oakland, CA) is a good deal compared to some of the other rental agencies like National - same price as the surrounding area gas stations. Overall, I paid for a cheap economy car at a budget rental company and got exactly what I expected.
Cons: It was a Hyundai Accent - what's enjoyable about that car?

Cons: Like a sucker, I fell for the counter agent's encouragement to upgrade from an economy to compact car (on account of the stormy conditions), as well as to pre-pay for gas (on account of the likelihood of my using a full tank), and to purchase the minimum insurance that would cover damages to the car... throw a few taxes and fees in there and, next thing you know, the advertised price of $42 was $110. Standard practice in the rental car industry, I'm sure...

Pros: Good price. Counter person gave the sales pitch for all of the insurance and fuel add-ons, but was less pushy than most. Rental and return process was quick and efficient.
Cons: The full size car I thought I had rented was not available. I had to wait over 30 minutes to get ANY car.. Then, had to wait 15 minutes at the exit booth while the car I was given off the lot was cleared to leave. I had to be a work later that day and this experience kept me from getting a nap before my shift began. This rental experience was a borderline nightmare!!

Would not rent from Fox again
Pros: The upholstery of the car had burn marks on it. The seat belt had a notch in the belt that made it difficult to use it. There was no rear window wiper that I could locate.
Worst of all the driver's seat was very uncomfortable on my back. I would never rent from Fox again.

Cons: After waiting over an hour I had to take a car that was 2 levels down from what I reserved and paid for because that was all they had. It was dirty inside and out, had high milage (37.5K). Tires were worn past the point of needing to be replaced, passenger front was broken and unusable. Back seat was so filthy I had to buy a beach towel to put on it so people could sit on it. Pros: The pick up and drop off were easy.
Cons: The cars condition was pretty bad. It had all kinds of minor damage all around as well as a burn mark in the drivers seat. The front drivers side fender was slightly loose and not properly attached. The car also should have had a Key FOB to lock and unlock the door, we were only given a key. Overall not a happy customer.
Pros: One way rental good value. No hard sell to take out ectra insurance or upgrade.
Would have appreciated a little more help with car selection and a brief familiarisation. Instead was directed to a number of cars to make a choice and then left to get on with it.

Cons: I was OVERCHARGED $467.39 instead of the $202.71 in my contract RR657234454 because I returned the car at SFO instead of OAK airports. THESE IS PREDATORY CHARGES. I would accept a $25 to $50 surcharge for the burden of driving the car 30 mins north, but this is abusive. I would not recommend any of my friends go through this painful service.

Cons: The woman at the front desk tried to sell us upgrades, gas and insurance very insistently, then sent us up to the counter.After a 10 minute wait, we were directed to a group of cars to choose from. Other customers were looking at all but one of the cars, so we took that car, and drove it to the exit. The woman at the exit indicated that we could not take that car; that it was not available. We had to go back and then find another car.

Got ripped off for not having a credit card
Cons: The desk attendant would not rent to me because I didn't have a credit card. I was never told that using a debit card would be an issue. They then called in a very suspicious retail car company that charged me triple what I expected to pay and gave me a milage limit on my car.
I will never use Dollar again and hope nobody else does I was blatantly taken advantage of.
This was my first time booking through kayak and will never use this service again either.
I knew my deal was to good to be true and payed in the end.

Car was not the standard I reserved
Pros: Car was not the standard size I reserved and I would have had to pay significantly more despite the clarity of my email confirmation. Then I had to pay an extremely expensive fee just to use the easy pass (not talking about toll) which is bullshit. Horrible customer service and pickup.
Pros: Good value on a one-way rental (pickup downtown / return to the airport.) And the drop-off at SFO was very quick, with efficient and courteous staff.

Don't rent from AVIS!
Pros: After waiting in line that didn't move for over 30 min, we went to Alamo! We got the same car, cheaper and in and out in 10 minutes! Avis was understaffed and lacked customer service!
Cons: AVIS lacks customer service! We were sched to pick up our car at 9 am. There was a line of 12 other people a head of me, the person at the front of the line had been waiting for a hour!!! Horrible service!!! Never Again!!!
