This company refuses to take the collision coverage from my credit card company and forced us to pay another 15% of the rental cost to buy their collision damage waiver.

The rep at the Rental Car center told me he was getting me a car with more leg room instead of a hatchback and did not say it was an upgrade or that I would be charged more. I looked at my bill after I returned from my trip and I was charged $100 upgrade fee. That's fraud.

We were supposed to pay 383 and when we arrived there we Paid 591 instead. Also you (Kayak) suggested US to purchase Allianz ensurance and Payless did not accepted It. I tried as much as i can to have a refund but seems you are likely to stole Money

I selected a little bit nicer than the "standard" car from the list of options I was given. When I got to the San Diego airport, they only really had the standard option of a car so it was worthless to pay the extra $5-$10 per day to get a nicer car. Unless you went to the higher tier which was more than that then you probably would have gotten a better car. Now to talk about the car I was given, it was a piece of crap. Had a "system failure" message pop out the entire rental time, low tire pressure sensors tripping as well. I was in the middle of a road trip so I could not easily just call them and ask them to give me a better maintained car. That would have just wasted me so much time that I just decided to risk it and hoped that that the car didn't leave me stranded. It didn't so I got lucky. I hope the next person who uses that car has the same luck as me. Honestly, I would not recommend this company to save a few bucks, go with a better reputation company, pay the extra cash and have a better piece of mind.

I reserved a midsize and they gave me an economy. it was bare bones, no power windows or locks, even, and had clearly been in accidents. it strained to go 30mph. when i called to request a different car, nobody answered or returned my calls

I was 30 minutes early as my flight was early. No cars in the class I reserved, "but we have an SUV for $100 more", so I had to wait until a car was available. I had the choice of a Chevy Spark or a Mitsubishi. I chose the Mitsubishi which I found out after leaving was UNSAFE. It had the usual number of dents but the front end was too loose which made driving on the grooved highways of So. Cal. and unwanted adventure. The mismatched hub caps were a real plus and the noisy muffler was an extra treat. I never exceeded 60 mph in the slow lane with the usual 70-80 mph flow of traffic for fear of the front end letting loose or getting pulled over for suspected drunk driving with the lossy-goosy front end weaving in the lane. Upon return there wasn't a soul there either at the return office or the rental office. You have to take pictures of everything as there is no one to accept the car or keys. I literally walked in the automatic doors of the rental office and there was a no one there. Rows of chairs and computers, no people. I put my contract and keys on the counter, stood back and took a picture as proof of return. However, one of the reputable outfits had an open return office and staff available. Pick one of those.

False Advertisement. When I booked and paid on Kayak, I thought I was getting a good deal, but when I showed up at the counter, not only was the car not ready when I ordered it for 10am but they told me the insurance I bought from Kayak was not accepted, they don't accept 3rd party insurances and made me purchased theirs 4x the amount, which was more expensive than the car itself. I heard the people next to me with the same issue and my rep said it happens all the time and had me call the insurance to cancel and ask for refund - so inconvenient! I should've gone with one of the other rental companies instead.

Don’t rent from Payless. Pay a little more to go with another company. They tried to add on additional fees at pick up. When we got the keys to the car the woman indicated that it was the silver Nissan Sentra just next to her booth and we inspected it and loaded up all our stuff and then we got in and it wouldn’t start. I got out and said are you sure this is the car the keychain says the car is black. She came out and started hitting the unlock button until a car far down the aisle started going off and she rudely noted that was our car. Not even acknowledging that she just told us it was the silver one. The car was unsafe to even be on the road. Bald tires, alignment was off, and it smelled like it had been smoked in plus had very dark tint. Horrible experience all around. Only bright spot is they didn’t argue when we turned it in early.

I was charger $29 on top of what I paid for on kayak for no reason. I got a car that had no brakes basically, every time I brake the car makes a loud noise. I called Payless and left voicemails and no one returned my calls. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Car was very dirty inside. I used cleaning wipes that turned black after wiping off the steering wheel. Sticky stuff on the control knobs on dashboard. Turned on air vents and smelled like cigarette smoke, which I did not catch until I had left the rental location. No windshield wiper fluid. I dropped it off at enterprise and told them, to be disregarded and now they are charing me for the smoke smell which made me sick on the drive and was not from me. WORST rental I have had.

My car was booked for 12 they called me earlier to see if I would accept a 2pm pick up and I agreed. When I got there they told me my car was being cleaned and gas and that it would take 15-25. After an hour I received a dirty car with half a can of soda in the center storage and 3/4ths of a tank of gas. The car worked fine… but I’m not using enterprise ever again. I got traffic going to LA and was late to an appointment.

Excellent all around. Super professional at pick up and drop off. We rented a cheap compact SUV. We arrived at 10 pm and they were out of that size. So they offered me a 2021 MERCEDES or BMW SUV for same price!!!! Unbelievable. Super thrilled about the ease of getting out of the airport and for dropping off. I will for sure use Enterprise again. And Kayak had the cheapest prices too

I realize that the covid-related car shortage is affecting everyone. Finally found a car to drive from San Diego to Palm Springs, since my flight had been cancelled. Too bad it was almost $200! (My suitcase is still en route to Palm Springs--flight delayed. I left Washington, DC for Palm Springs Wednesday at 9am and was supposed to arrive at 2pm Wednesday. Oh well...)

Terrible experience. Never got the car, rental location was closed and airport location wouldn’t assist, told me that’s what I get for going through a third party. Extremely rude. Non refundable fee, so out the money, everyone with our travel group was appalled. Rebooked with Avis through Costco.

I was overcharged about $1200 from the agreed upon rate because, according to Dollar, I dropped the car off at a different location than originally stated, which is not true. I dropped the car off according to schedule about an hour before it was due. There was no employee at the drop-off site, and the instructions said to leave the keys in the car. So I did, and Dollar ripped me off by charging me over twice what I had expected to pay. After contacting Dollar, they refuse to refund me. I'm never going to them again.

Efficient Pick Up.I paid for a Land Rover Discovery, I received an Infiniti. The car had 30,000 plus miles, with stains on the interior ceiling. There was minimal space in any of the rows and virtually no cargo space, despite being advertised as three large bags and seven people. VERY POOR experience and certainly not the luxury SUV I paid for.

The car was an upgraded convertible (since a regular convertible was not available) and was in good shape and everything worked well. The staff were nice - we waited maybe 15-20 minutes in line and drop off was super fast and the shuttle was waiting to take us to the airport. I would definitely use Thrifty again!

Thrifty/Dollar's airport rental pickup line was L-O-N-G upon our arrival in San Diego. We had a long wait to pick up a car we had already reserved. Not enough people working the counters! The gal we had, though, was very patient and kind. But, even when we had already purchased third-party car insurance from Kayak, we were strongly encouraged to buy even more from Thrifty--an unexpected cost. That was irritating. Having finally gotten the paperwork done, we were sent to the car garage where it was very unclear as to what we were supposed to do! Aisles of categorized cars and so few people to ask for assistance. SO FRUSTRATING! We eventually found out we were just supposed to pick one out in our category! The Chevy Spark we picked out, though, was a great small car for the 2 of us--easy to drive, great gas mileage, could fit in tight parking spots, and great turning radius. However, the AC blower was wonky and did not work correctly all the time (and we really needed it while driving in the desert!). We really wanted properly working AC. Returning the car at J. Wayne Airport in Newport Beach was somewhat confusing, as well. We found out there were not enough people to do that job properly either--like properly checking the car for any damages. They took our paperwork and went off with it, with us not knowing if there would be any additional charges until they emailed us. Very frustrating, again. I guess the car rental companies just can't find people willing to work for them. They seem very short-handed.

My car was very clean and low miles (4,400). I chose a full size and grabbed a Nissan Altma, which is really a very nice car. I just recently switched to Thrifty, and really like the fact that they don't hard sell you to buy their insurance of the full tank of gas option. The rental counter in San Diego was very busy, but the agents were very efficient and worked quickly to minimize my wait time.

Staff not very knowledgeable about the charges, told me that I will be charged for gas refill based on the size of the vehicle, and still charged me $86 for a compact car gas refill. I called the company and they told me that "I agreed on the charges, and that they do not know why someone will tell me that it depends of the size of the car" So I was charged for gas refill on a truck, when in fact I used a compact car, and used less than 1/4th of the gas in the tank. Simply not fare with the customers, not truthful about the hidden charges.

The car I was originally given wouldn't start due to warnings indicating problems with the oil pressure, brakes and power steering. It seems like something the staff should have discovered, rather than leaving it to me to report after being assigned the car. The staff was good about quickly finding me a replacement vehicle.

I did not like it at all I couldn't even actually rent the car because the rental place was already closed. My rental was at 6pm on oct. 14th and I had called few hours earlier on the day of the rental to see if i could rent it earlier. The lady who answered my phone told me that could not be accommodated since my rental was not ready so i had no choice but waiting until 6pm. When i went to the rental place a bit after 6pm to get my rental, the place was closed; i found out that the place closes at 6pm. What kind of rental place closes at 6pm and only allow a rental car to be picked up at 6pm. Worst experience in my life. Thus rental was for going to LAX from San Diego for a flight at 10pm. I almost missed my flight. Horrible experience.

The car was not clean and smelled like smoke. I didn’t realize the Miramar location address was 16 miles north of the airport. not a good experience! Budget was not helpful in being able to change the reservation to the airport location On pick up or drop off.

I searched for a car at the San Diego airport and Kayak tricked me into a rental at the Mexico border. The Avis people at the airport rental said this happens all the time, and they rented me a car for $200 more than my Kayak contract. Kayak is a shit company and I will never use them again, I will tell everyone I know about this experience. You know how to reach me if you would like to make this right.

When ordered car in SD it did not say it wasn’t at the SD airport so we had to pay a lyft to get to the California border with all our luggage Avis saved our trip by letting us drop it off at the airport. So good and bad.

I had spent an hour or so looking for a reasonably priced rental in San Diego and entered the "SAN" airport code for every search. It was quite the surprise for both the Avis Agent and me when he discovered my rental car was thirty miles south of the San Diego rental facility. This obviously did me no good. Yes, the location was clearly printed on the front of the page but I don't live in San Diego; how was I supposed to know the location was different from the requested airport site? Pretty shabby performance...

I selected the "mystery car"when reserving, however Avis tried to deliver a pickup truck. Since I was on holiday, with suitcases, there was no way I could accept a pickup which would leave my luggage in full view of potential thieves. I don't comprehend how Avis could consider a pickup truck to be a car. After much difficulty they eventually provided a car, however for $425 instead of the $308. That's almost 40% more than the amount confirmed when reserving. In addition only 2 agents were handling the contracts so I spent 1 ½ hours waiting to get a truck instead of a car, and another 45 minutes trying to get a car. BEWARE of so called "mystery cars"! You very well may end up with a truck instead of a car...

They misrepresented the airport. I searched for San Diego International Airport and secured a rental. When I arrived, I found that the car was only at a small airport some distance away and I was forced to pay the "walk-in" rate. (over twice the booked amount) I have already written Avis regarding my complaint. Hopefully I will receive some compensation.

They did not have the small SUV (Nissan Kicks) that I had reserved. They then tried to upgrade me to a Toyota Camry FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE even though they could not fulfill my chosen car type. Finally, they put me in a Volkswagen Jetta, which I told them I did not want earlier in the bait and switch portion of the pick up. I reluctantly accepted the Jetta when it beecame clear that it was take that car or get NO car. It turned out to be a nice car after all and got great gas mileage, but was very low for my 95 year old mother to sit in. Then, when I showed proof of my pre-purchased Auto Insurance policy they acted like I was a criminal. They car I took had numerous dents and scratches, and it took a lengthy trip back to the counter to find someone who would update the faulty pre-rental check out form to show the sideswipe of the vehicle. I will not rent from SixT again....far too low a budget spent on employees. More help at check out, and options beyond one car for the class when you do not have the reserved vehicle.

Went upstairs and was told the attendant was between car washes and the kiosk. Never saw them. Had called the number and it referred me back to the rental agency. Went to the rental agency and they referred me back to kayak. No one took responsibility. I want my money back!

Terrible customer service. I had booked through kayak and I had chose the wrong dates. I called Kayak within minutes of the booking to try and cancel it. They told me to call Sixt. Their calling system would keep looping me between prompts and kept suggesting the website. But when I tried to cancel online, it would tell me that I needed to call in. finally I found their email address online and sent them an email. They still charged me $100 to cancel the reservation, even though I made it an hour ago. I will never use this company again.

I made a reservation for a Hertz rental car in San Diego. Thanksgiving day we arrived at the airport and found out the reservation was at the Mexico border branch 50 miles from the San Diego airport. The woman at the airport branch told me this is a common problem with Kayak. I told my family about our experience and they said the exact same thing happened to them a few weeks ago. Don't worry Kayak, it'll never happen again. We found a better car with Avis at the same price. We will avoid using Kayak in the future.

I was given a car with 7/8 tank of gas. So I need to return it with 7/8 tank, which is impossible to achieve, or with a full tank, which is impossible to avoid (except by shutting off the dispenser during filling for no reason or based on a guess of how many gallons it would take to get the gauge up to 7/8 tank). The 7/8 tank of gas is an obvious ploy to chisel the customer out of some gas and really turns me off to Hertz.

This review isn't for Hertz, it is for Kayak, who CONTINUES to take reservations for the wrong pickup location from people traveling to San Diego. According to Hertz Kayak KNOWS they are renting cars online to people at the wrong pickup location (Mexican border instead of airport). So you get off the plane, spend 45 minutes getting to the rental car center only to be told that 1. You are in the wrong place. 2. Kayak knows they sent you to the wrong place and 3. We don't have any cars available. So you can either find a ride on your own from the airport Hertz to the Hertz counter at the Mexican border, or you can walk next door to and spend $650 on a car that should have cost you $200. I will never ever ever ever ever use this garbage website for any reason whatsoever.

I arrived at the San Diego airport to find that Economy Car rental had closed its San Diego location 4 months prior. I book the reservation 48 hours prior to arrival. So my reservation was made to a closed location. Luckily, another rental car company was able to assist me with a vehicle, bit at a much higher rate.

Rented a Toyota 4 runner for a reasonable price. It had 60K miles on it, smelled funny and the steering wheel would vibrate above 70 MPH. During pickup our original 4 runner had 500 miles and was brand new. The attendant stood there and watched us install 2 car seats and during the checkout process he told us that vehicle was on hold and we couldn’t take it. That was very annoying right after a 6 hour flight.

Pickup and drop off with this company is mediocre at best. Poor signage, and lack of directions caused us to walk half the garage in San Diego looking for their location. Car was fine, but finding their kiosk was difficult. No one advised there would be no one at early drop off time.

The car I rented was dirty inside and the interior windows were dusty and need to be thoroughly cleaned. I ended up having to wipe down the steering wheel, the dash board and everything around the front seats, the doors, etc. In addition, the windshield wiper fluid was low and ran out as I was trying to clean the windshield. Therefore, I would like to request that I get some kind of refund for this filthy car that was not well taken care of, cleaned or sanitized when I picked up the car.

Didn’t even get the car. Had a pickup time of 5pm because our flight was to arrive at 4:55pm. By the time we arrived, got our baggage, waited 20 minutes for the shuttle then got to the rental car area, Mex rent a car was closed. Was difficult to reach them by phone and they weren’t helpful at all. Ended up having to rent from another rental agency that had extra cars and was open regular hours. This was the most disappointing car rental experience I’ve ever had. We should never have been set up with a rental agency that closed within an hour of our “pickup” time when airline delays of an hour happen all the time. We also should have been told at the time of the rental what their hours are as I would never have booked it.

Booked a van pickup 5pm and drop off at same time 2 days later. The day off, 3 hours before pickup, I get a phone call from the location telling me I need to pickup an hour early because they decide to close at 4 “today”. Of fine. “Oh and also you need to drop off before 10am in 2 days because we will be closed at 10am”. “Or you can pay an extra $60 for late drop off”. What?? Late drop off would mean I extend pass my 24h, which I’m not!! If you decide to close early how does that become my problem?? Very disappointing.

Booked a van for 2 days w/ 150 mile per day. Arrived at location to be told that policies “of this specific branch” have changed and are now 150 “per rental” (!!!??) Long story short it’s obvious Non sense. Worker at location didn’t show any compassion and on the phone corporate couldn’t do anything because “we are reservation center and customer center only works week days”. Customer service non existent, bummer for loyal and respectful customers like us but I guess that’s the way it goes now.

We had a terrific vehicle for the cost.Didn't love that we had to go to the transit center for rentals & from there take another van (that we had to call & wait for). Never rent from this placeNothing.It was a bait and switch in that I seriously doubt they even own a Corolla or similar economy car. Granted, they weren’t going to raise the price....but then the car they were trying to give me (after an interminable wait) was actually a huge dirty van...that had very significant damage from having been sideswiped. We are talking major body damage. So yeah, no thanks. Place is godawful. And they have signs everywhere about how you really need the insurance because this would cost X and that would cost Y. (Maybe take the money you earned from the sideswiping job and spend it on the needed body work?). Pretty ominous, and give everything else I’d seen of this company...but yeah, trying to drive around the city (parallel park, etc.) in a huge damaged dirty van? No thanks.

Overall it was a great deal for the Van. Only we had to pay an extra $100 because we dropped it off in LA and I didn’t realize this until we made our final payment. The staff was very nice and accommodating during the pick up process. We had no problem riding the shuttle to the rental car area but it was a little confusing because the van rental is off site so we had to take another van ( which the number was there to call for a pick up) this might need to be disclosed in the advertisement.

Obviously you go with these folks (or equivalent) because of cost.Pleasant enough agent. Staff tried to talk us into a larger vehicle, getting their insurance instead of what I got online and convinced us to purchase a 4 day toll device by telling us there were tolls where we were traveling. Once and never againBasically nothingCar I had contracted for was not available, offered me a minivan instead, not interested, was traveling by myself and wanted fuel economy. Agent said that I could return the next day to swap out for something more appropriate, but, due to my schedule, it would have taken me a whole day's drive to come back for the swamp...As an alternative, I asked if I could swap cars in Phoenix, which would have fit my itinerary better, was told there would be an upcharge for such. Else wanted to upcharge me for a more desirable model, I declined. Stood my ground, eventually, an economy type car was returned and assigned to me. It was noisy, lacked cruise control, a/c was very weak, as in "no fun to drive". To make up for the inconvenience, I was told I would be given a discount from my original intermediate type car reservation, however, that did not happen, they just hit my credit card with the full charge for the larger vehicle I never go to drive. When returning the car, their station was closed, with zero indication as to when they would open in the a.m. like was posted on their competitor's return stations. When I tried to return the car to their Phoenix location, I was told it was impossible to drop the car off there even though their San Diego agent had told me I could do so if willing to pay a penalty for doing so - basically one of their agents lied, no idea which one. All in all a lousy experience, since I now have to file a complaint to get them to correct the charge to my credit card account.

Car was not cleaned out when I received it. There was trash under the seats, some wrappers in the trunk and side doors. It was evening when I picked up so I didn't notice until the next morning. The car smelled faintly of stale food, so they clearly did a poor job cleaning overall. The customer service was rude and impatient. At least the pick-up and drop off had reasonable efficiency.

False advertising and hidden fees!The company advertises unlimited mileage, however the rentals have major mileage restrictions. Rentals can only be driven locally and the rate is $.99/mile after 200 miles.

Over-priced and dishonestPacific charged me twice as much as they estimated on Kayak. If that had been the extent of it, I may have left it alone. The day after I returned my car, however, the manager called to tell me that there is a "new scratch" on the front bumper. The car they rented to me was already scratched up, so I assumed he had gotten something confused and I could simply send the pictures I had snapped of the car before driving away from the lot. He sent me pictures of a car I'm not convinced is the car I rented, with a big scratch in the bumper, and asked that I have my lawyer call him. I have never felt so mistreated by a company. I'm certain that I had nothing to do with a scratch in the car I rented, and after consulting Yelp I noticed that Pacific has pulled this same stunt with at least one other customer. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.

The man ask if all I have is a debit card and I tell him yes. He then says there is a $600 deposit. Let me say that again a 2-day rental at $38 and he wanted a $600 deposit. Now my mom who was with me used to work at Hertz car rental down the street and knows the industry. I am in school studying to be a lawyer. I asked the man to show me ANYWHERE ON MY CONFIRMATION EMAIL OR ANY LINK WHERE THERE IS A $600 DEPOSIT. He could not show me anything anywhere. I hold his company Pacific and your company as well responsible for doing business with a company of this sorts. I hope that my treatment was not because of my skin color, but I still do not know why this man had to insert himself into my transaction in the first place, and he could not show me anything in writing in regards to a $600 deposit.

My rental car was dead at noon June 15, 2021 on our way from San Diego to Yosemite National Park. We contacted National roadside assistance and they couldn't do anything to help. We had to be in the middle of nowhere under the heat of 100F. After 7 hours stranded, the tow truck came at 7:30 pm to tow the car and left our luggage on the street. The taxi came at 7:45pm to take us to the rental car office, but the office was closed at 5:00pm. Taxi only offered to take us to the nearby hotel and it had to be under our own expense. I couldn't stay at the nearby hotel because I already sent my under age children to the campsite close to the Yosemite National Park with a group of friends when the car broke down. I had to pay my friend to come back from campsite to car broke down location to pick us up and took us to the campsite while the Taxi denied to take us because it was too far. We had to spend $200 to cover that pick up. The road side assistance had confirmed that their agent at the airport close to the Yosemite NP had a reserve replacement car for us, but when we came to pick up the car. They had no car available; We had to call RSA and stayed on the phone with them hours and hours, I was stranded at the airport from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm on June 16, 2021 talked to a whole bunch of different people to end up with the smaller SUV that didn’t have enough room for everybody in my family and the luggage. Half of my family had to split with other cars within our group of friends. The rental car has ruined my family vacation. We had lost 2 vacation days. Instead of enjoying nature, we have been stranded on the road or the rental car office. We had lost our park’s fee and the campsite’s fee for nothing; the stress of dealing with the Roadside assistant customer service that won’t be able to help much drove us crazy. On the top of those issues, I have been charged almost $54 for the gas on the Buick Enclave and they didn’t give me the credit for the gas left on the Infiniti QX80 when the car was dead and it still had more than ½ tank of gas. With all of those issues National only give me credit of $199. I was so frustrated with National. I will never rent from National or deal with Kayak again. The worst customer service that I have ever deal with.

The first car we were given had some type of mechanical problems. I wouldn't go more that 20 mph up a hill. This car was replaced with another car of the same type but older, with less features. We made due.

Quick pick up / drop off--aggressive on selling upgrade/insurancefast pick up/drop off. 24 hour shuttle service to and from airport because all rental company is housed at same location (San Diego Airport)Service agent at pickup counter was too aggressive in pushing additional insurance. Know what your personal policy covers and be firm that you do NOT want any extras (if that is the case)

Pretty goodRelatively quick pickup and processing, car was in good condition and performed well. Associate at the desk was professional and friendly. Car was newer model Hyundai.First, got charged an extra fee for extending the rental that was not mentioned even though I had explicitly asked in advance. Required proof of insurance at check-in, which I've never had requested before.

Inexpensive.The "rental car insurance" ads lead me to buy insurance while I was online reserving a car. What I didin't know -- Even with the reading of the clauses which are difficult to understand -- was that my own car insurance company would be the one I'd contact first before this one kicked in. (According to the clerk at Green Motion.) So I ended up buying the one offered by Green Motion, and wasted money on Allianz.

I like the ease of working with the airport car rental center staff. They were able to adjust my pick up location from downtown to right there at the rental center and it cost me a little less than anticipated. The third party insurance presented some questions at the counter, but nothing that could not be resolve in seconds. I would use Kayak in future travel plans.I didn't like the fact the add stated it was at the airport and there was an airport shuttle. The San Diego airport (Lindbergh Field) has a rental car center for all rental car companies. The add was for the downtown location and the shuttle only transports to the airport rental center. Also, the airport rental center is MCAR which is also MIDWAY

Good and fastWas the least pressure I've ever had from a car rental company to upgrade the insurance. Also because they are smaller there was no line to wait. I just looked over at the long line at Payless and glad I wasn't there.

Just okayEven though the car was cleaned when I arrived, and I had to wait for this cleaning, it was quite dirty once all the water dried. The windshield in particular had a thick film on the inside. It also smelled like smoke even though they supposedly don't let renters smoke in their vehicles. Once I cleaned it up myself and aired it out it was a okay car for a couple days. Probably wouldn't rent from them again as the price was the same as other rentals but I have never had a car that needed me to clean it from other agencies.

Deposit??Free upgradedDidn't get back my full deposit of $200 (which I wasn't aware of at the initial booking through Kayak). Not sure why. Only received $170 back. Not given a specific time to drop off (the person behind counter said,"so around this same time?" To which I said yes), yet when I dropped it off in the early afternoon (around the same time), I was charged for an extra day ($14.50). But even with that and now the more taxes I paid on the "extra day" it doesn't add up to $30. So where is the rest of my money? Will go with the larger company next time to save the hidden fees..

Amazing, friendly serviceThey gave us a complimentary upgrade, were full of helpful information. When we returned the car and were tight on time they actually drove us to our terminal in a car (since the shuttle was not due for another five minutes).

Rediculous WaitThe car was clean and in good working order. The attendant was polite and very patience. But really?, one attendant 3 days before Christmas?I had a reservation for a full size car, as my family was all meeting in California for the holidays. The reservation was set to pick up the car at 6:00 PM. I arrived at 5:55. When I arrived there were two people in front of me. Neither of which spoke english. The attendant tried and tried to explain the rental agreements while I waited. I waited for one hour for him to process two customers. When it was finally my turn, he informed me there were no full size cars available and that the car had to be cleaned. At that point, I was pretty upset. I had to wait another 20 minutes for the car to be cleaned. In all, the transaction took over 90 minutes and I did not get the car size I reserved. And for what?, to save a few dollars over one of the majors? I am very disappointed Kayak would recommend such a terrible 3rd tier car rental agency. Lorrin

Booked few days before and they told me that my reservation automatically got cancelled due to glitch in system and there were no communication done to me. There were literally 4-5 people waiting before me from couple of hours to get a car. They suggested dont even bother waiting. Luckily, my reservation was already cancelled. I understand this could be due to employee shortage going on, but for travelers, this situation becomes pretty frustrating if they are on tight schedule. Nearby this place, other car rentals had similar scenario where people were just waiting in lines to get a car.

All in all, the experience was fine. People were friendly and the car was nice. The only problem I had was they kept me on hold for the airport shuttle pickup for over 45 min. The other rental car company actually ended up picking me up and dropping me off at NU because he saw me waiting for such a long time on hold with NU. If they could get that sorted out, the whole experience would've been better, but not bad overall

Do not rent with NU car. It took me (and those in front of me in line) over 40 minutes to pick up our cars due to how the company processed things. My pick up time was noon. I did not receive my car until 1. Even with my noon pick up taking an hour, the car I had reserved was still not “ready” at 1. The staff told me I needed to wait for my car to be ready, or, I could pay to upgrade to a different car that was already ready. I should NOT have had to pay for an upgrade. It was the companies fault for not having the correct vehicle ready at the correct time. The upgrade should have been complimentary. I also paid for unlimited mileage and insurance. However I was told in person that I wouldn’t recover unlimited mileage because I was a resident of the state I was renting in. This was not listed anywhere during the purchase process. I was also not refunded. I was also required to use my own insurance even though I paid for the provided insurance. I was also not reimbursed. This company is a scam. I do not recommend them and will be reporting them to the BBB. Also, they only have a 2 star rating if you search on Google. Should be one star.

The place was terribly disorganized. I was third on the line for the pickup. It took a full hour to get the car. They washed a car no one was waiting for before they washed mine. Others in front of me were very upset. The car was fine, except the dashboard said "Maintenance Required" as soon as I picked it up, so it probably needed an oil change. The cost for the rental was excellent, but you need to run a smooth and professional operation to keep customers. This was neither smooth nor professional.

They lure you in with low prices and then say whatever you chose is not available and charge you 50% more. They are short-staffed (on purpose?) and there was a long line of people waiting, both when I picked up and dropped off. And they make you wait outside with nowhere to sit. Just spend the extra money to get a car at the actual rental companies on site at the airport. The staff were friendly and seemed happy - maybe they enjoy running the scam.

Staff were talking about internal issues (employee not returning and renting a car correctly) for about 3 minutes before acknowledging and helping me. Then had to wait while they figured out which car was available and was told they couldn’t rent it because they car had technically not been returned in the system. They eventually spoke with employee that did not return car and returned it in system with an override. The company then started cleaning the car and I had to wait about 5 minutes for it to be “wiped down.” The license plates were expired and there were spill stains on 3 out of 4 mats. There was also sand in back seat and passenger seats and floors; it was not vacuumed. The tires were very worn.Returning the car was quick and simple. The car had no problems mechanically and smelled clean.

  • Driving around San Diego is the most convenient and comfortable way of getting to know all corners of the region, as the freeway system is fairly easy to navigate and traffic is manageable (aside from during rush hour). Because public transportation services are unreliable in the city, staying mobile by renting a car is the best option. It is also ideal for travelers looking to explore other destinations outside the city, such as the wine country of nearby Temecula, or those who want to embark on a road trip along the California coast.
  • All the big car hire agencies can be found in the San Diego International Airport (SAN), at the Consolidated hire Car Center just outside the airport. The hire Car Center is accessible via free shuttle bus services that stop at all terminals.
  • Although the freeway system isn't generally complicated, always have a map or a GPS on hand to help you. When driving downtown, beware of tourists or other reckless drivers who may be too used to driving in the city. If you’re interested in hopping across the border to Mexico, make sure you talk to your hire agency, as they may need to provide specific documentation, such as car insurance that is also valid in the neighboring country.
