Insurance madnessCons:My credit card covered rental insurance fully and Europcar asked for an email from my bank/credit card company before giving me the car. I had to call my credit card provider and have them send an email to Europcar. Pretty damn ridiculous. All told, I wasted three hours getting all this sorted, and even after I finally got them what they needed, they put a EURO 5,000 authorization charge on my account, an obscene amount for a one-week rental. Also: There's a 25 EURO airport surcharge that I was never made aware of, and a 35 EURO charge to travel into Northern Ireland, which I also wasn't made aware of until the time of payment. I recommend you book elsewhere, because a Google search tells me that not all car rental companies charge for traveling into Northern Ireland.Reviewed 6 Sep. 2018

Rip off alertCons:This company is an insurance ripoff. Insisted on full coverage, left me and my family in a lurch as we were stuck at a remote location offsite from the airport. Would not accept my credit card insurance policies, I had 3 different cards, all with renters coverage. Tried to use my personal renter policy which covers rentals in Ireland and they refused. Hard sell on everything. Instead of the $80 for the week, ended up having to dish out $540. Avoid at all costs. Don't fall for their bait and switch. Kayak should be ashamed of doing business with this company.Reviewed 29 Sep. 2016

Price problem, and mystic accident !!!Pros:The car is ok, not bad. Not trouble during the rent. The car has been clean.Cons:The difference between my booking price and the real price I have already paid. I need to look for a explication about. Tax ? Insurance? ?? I don't know, I have already asked directly Europcar about, I hope I will have answer early. Beside, when I returned the car, the Europcar employee asked about accident on front driver door, little scratch less than 3 cm. I tried to explain I didn't check the car with worker when I took the car, and the scratch is on the car before, but he said me the opposite. But, when I took the car 12/04/2017, I tried to put this scratch in the contract, and the office employee explained me all accident, impact and scratch have put in the report during the car drop off with the costumer before. So, when I picked up the car, total price with insurance is very expensive than the booking price ( because they add taxes, insurances....) and, when I returned the car, Europcar worker put in the report "mystic accident". Consequently, I send you my dissatisfaction about this rental car.Reviewed 18 Apr. 2017

First time renting outside of the USAPros:Easy pick up and drop off and the staff was friendly. They patiently waited while we contacted our CC cards ref the insurance coverage.Cons:We had requested an automatic, but Europecar could not find our upgrade request, so we got stuck with what was available which was a BMW. In their defence, we never got a confirmation for our upgrade request, so it might not have been their fault. Our big mistake was not verifying with our credit cards that insurance would be covered. Our AX, MC and Visa did not provide insurance in Ireland, so we had to buy EuropCars insurance and it's not cheap. The total cost of 3 week rental of a BMW X1 SUV diesel was $1400 pounds. Do your homework and if you have a written agreed upon price make the rental company stick to it.Reviewed 28 Sep. 2017

Not as QuotedPros:There was nothing to like as in the end I was t able to get the vehicleCons:They wanted to charge me more than 5X the price quoted at reservation. Insurance was not included in the price quoted. Additionally I was told that they would not accept third party insurance and yet as I kept asking questions in answer to the exorbitant amount they wished to charge, I found that they do accept third party insurance but it must be preapproved. Additionally they wanted me to buy excess insurance. They said all of this took place because I reserved through an American broker and not directly through their company's site. I asked if I could cancel the reservation and book with them, they refused and said there was no way to cancel the reservation even though there was no money yet paid. While just before he'd quoted a cheaper price for a upgraded vehicle, now he wanted me to pay more money for a basic vehicle. I was told that it would normally be cheaper but because of the holiday and all it was more. Which sealed the deal for me that I was being taken advantage of as he had just said that the price difference was because of my booking through the broker, it didn't all add up. After some two hours, including the intervention of a resident of the area, I went with an alternative form of transport. I would say definitely do your research and even then have a backup plan.Reviewed 4 Apr. 2017

Cons:The MANDATORY insurance fees are absolutely ridiculous. On-wed scammed into thinking that the car rental fee was $4 per day and the insurance cost, which I booked online was another $30 per day. When I arrived, they forced me to pay all insurances or leave a $1,500 deposit, which I wasn't prepared for. The also require me to purchase the full tank of gas, which was 107 Euro, but said it would be refunded upon return if the tank was full. According to the quote thru Budget/Kayak, at the time of booking, it should have cost me approx 250USD. It ended up costing me over 800USD. I returned the car clean, full of fuel, and not a single scratch. I will NEVER rent thru Budget again, neither overseas or domestically!Reviewed 20 Feb. 2018

Pros:Whole experience was awfulCons:Booked an automatic in Dublin Airport. The quote I was given was €487 for two weeks including the CDW. When I arrived it was €780, that was the first problem. I called to confirm this price three times. Next I waited 30 min for them to find an automatic car. Why did it take so long when I had reserved it a month ago? When I was given the keys we went to put our cases in the trunk. It could not hold two cases without pushing the rear seats forward, causing them to not lock into place. I could not have a child sitting in the back without a seat that was functioning properly. When I went back in to notify europcar, they said to pay €160 more for a different class. I informed them that I did not even book the smallest car and it's not my problem they don't have any automatics in their fleet. After going back and forth for an hour, I was informed they would refund me for the CDW insurance but that I would lose the base price of the rental daily. Hmm I haven't even started the car yet, but you want to charge me for 14days of a car I haven't even driven yet? I was asked if I would like to talk to the manager and after saying yes and waiting, he never showed and I was given a full refund after wasting 1.5hrs. I went next door to Budget and explained what had happened and they matched Europcars price of €780 and provided me with a beautiful car with plenty of space for our luggage.Reviewed 21 Oct. 2016

Costly car rental for what you got!Pros:The car was nice and met our needs for the week our so we had it. But it would have been better if when rented the Eurocar attendant had explained the car operations features.Cons:The hustle I got to take an upgraded car compared to what I originally booked. The fact there was nobody available to explain the car operating chaicteristic for basic things like how to adjust miors, cruise controles, syncing your phone to to the car, where the fuel fill lid button was located, seat adjustments,, the dashboard characteristics and other features I had to figure out on my own. It would have been a much better experience if the rental car agent or representative had been willing to explain the car features before I departed with the car.Reviewed 2 Oct. 2016
