Cons:The car was faulty and we had to change cars midway through out trip. Also, it was unclear in the reservation details that the pick up is not actually at the airport, and we needed to get a shuttle to a different location. As we arrived late at night it was quite stressful to make sure that we could get to the office before they closed.Reviewed 3 Oct. 2016

Pros:The manager actually helped.Cons:There was very bad signage for where to go for the shuttle (it is in a different spot than all of the other car rental shuttles). Then when we arrived the worker would not let my husband rent the car instead of me, he said I would have to be the primary and my husband could be a second driver. But i was one week away from my 25th birthday so they were trying to charge us double the price so I could be the primary driver. He offered no other suggestions for help. I had to ask for the manager, but he wasn't supposed to be in for over 2 more hours (at noon). Luckily the manager came in early and came right over and helped us out, making my husband the primary driver and charging us the initial rate. The car was also very dirty- trash in the backs of seats from previous renters and the windshield was impossible to see out of at night or in bad lighting because the windshield was not washed on the inside.Reviewed 9 Feb. 2016

Needs HelpPros:Car was fine once we got on the road.Cons:There were no signs for where the shuttle pick up was for Advantage. All of the other rental outfits were in one area, there's was not there and not signs to locate them. A call to the phone number said it was with the other rental car companies which was not true. We literally had to chase down the shuttle bus as it went around the airport. The bus was beat up but got us there. There were three counters open but it was a mad house and they had little or no concern for the line or the conditions at the counter. They spent so much time high pressure up selling people on models and insurance it was terrible. They literally scared people into their insurance. They even beat down the Kayak/online insurance. After surviving the poor counter experience we had to wait for them to get a vehicle, punishment for not moving up to a higher price rental vehicle. Misleading business practicesCons:My family and I rented an intermediate car from Advantage. We show up at the location sign our paperwork and go to the car they assigned us, which was a Mazda CX3. The main reason we reserved an intermediate car was so that our the car seat for our son would fit in the car. The car seat would not fit in the CX3 and I went back to the desk to see if they had another intermediate car and they said all they had was CX3's and that I could upgrade to a full size car or SUV for an additional charge or I could prepay the fuel and take the upgrade for no additional daily charge. When my wife looked at how Mazda describes the CX3 they call it a "sub-compact crossover". Only after we bring this to the manager's attention at the location do they allow us to take a larger car, which is most likely what we should have had in the first place. This was extremely misleading and dishonest and I will never rent from them again.Reviewed 13 Mar. 2018

Car rental office was closed - no carCons:We arrived to Maui on Christmas Eve at 9:30pm flying all day with a six month old. We had a 10pm car rental pick-up reservation. (Office should have been open til 10:00pm) We waited at the car rental shuttle area until 9:50pm and finally called since no shuttle had arrived. The office was closed. Left a message that evening and no returned phone call. Enjoyed the Christmas holiday with family and called back a few days later after never hearing back. Left another message. Call was returned the following day. The gentleman who I talked to was nice, but had no explanation for why we did not have a car. Offered to help us with a rental the next time we return...unfortunately I don't think we will be risking having the same experience again. We ended up booking through another car company and they were very accommodating but MUCH more expensive!Reviewed 5 Jan. 2016

Managers Choice... lamePros:We left with a vehicle.Cons:When we arrived we were told we had the "managers choice" which wasn't a choice, rather we were told we had a minivan. While for some that might be nice, for a couple getaway, away from the kids, we weren't looking for a minivan, but that was all we could take. They also wanted to charge $14 a day for an added over 21 driver. Later they offered $7 a day for the added driver, which was also silly for the one time another driver might drive. We will NOT use this service again. Avoid "managers choice" unless you're excited for a roll of the dice.Reviewed 22 Sep. 2018

RentalCons:I booked through Kayak because it appeared to be a cheaper rate than what I could find locally. Kayak offered insurance, which I chose to take, but when I arrived at the rental office, Advantage Car Rental told me that Kayak's insurance didn't cover damage and time out, if the car was in need of repair, so I paid for insurance with Advantage, too. I got hit on both ends and wound up paying more in the end, instead of less. By the time I was at the rental office, I was stuck. I won't make this mistake again! I feel taken. Cons:Did not have SUV and gave us a mini van that we did not like. When we drove to our condo the tire pressure light came on. We then noted a tire with a slow leak that had been pumped up for rental. We called to return the car and the person in duty found and reserved an SUV for us, which was good but we had to pay for the gas to return to airport to return van! As a courtesy, the person also gave us a 90 minute extension to return the vehicle but only noted it in the file, we were charged a $35 overage and had to stand in line at counter to ask someone to read notes and adjust, which was done, but was another hassle. We were also told it would be best to buy a tank of gas at 3.29 per gallon, but we are not told it came with $30+ of airport taxes which was ridiculous. We had to call and get that changed too. We filled up the tank which was almost empty on the SUV for $40 at Costco vs the $85 you tried to charge us. TAXES on tsnk of gas should be disclosed. In addition we were renting car from 4pm to 5pm return assuming there was a one hour grace period that is standard. When flight arrived early so we picked up car at 3:30pm, agent charged us for two additional hours without disclosing it. Lots of sneaky things we didn’t notice on contract until we read the print out on way home. People at Kahului we’re all very nice and fixed all we needed. It’s not them that appear to be wrong, it’s the company. We will rent from you again but will not take a van, will not take gas, and will look for system sneaking extra hours on the contract.Reviewed 18 Feb. 2020

Faulty rental upon pick up, uncaring unaccountable staffPros:Covertible in Hawaii.Cons:Advantage staff did all they could to upsell. They did not have an automatic covertible mustang which I had reserved and stated a camero convertible was NOT similar and instead a $10/day " upgrade". The car I received had a broken 12 volt port which had not been checked prior to being given me and there was leftover trash in the uncleaned front storage compartment. I returned the car the next day and was given a hard time for the gas tank not being completely full when I would not have been back early if the car wasn't broken upon pick up. The insurance online cost $64.00 for the week and they stated it was invalid and charged $212.00 for the insurance for the same timeframe. There was no kindness, accountability, or understanding for their faulty vehicle. Poor experience and will never ever use this rental company againReviewed 27 Mar. 2018

Cons:They didn't have a Mustang Convertible so we had to take a VW bug convertible. I don't like German cars so a more comparable/familiar car like a Chrysler Sebring or other American version would be more easier to navigate. I don't drive German cars And actually more familiar with Japanese cars but can handle the American cars Cause I had a few in my time. Also the passenger door didn't close correctly and they never mentioned that during The pick up but had enough knowledge about it to put a yellow sticker on the door which we didn't recognize until we left and actually used the passenger door the next day.Reviewed 3 Jul. 2017

A total mess. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANYCons:This place is a complete disaster. When I went to pick up my rental, they informed me that they had changed their policy THE DAY BEFORE and could no longer rent to a local resident without full coverage auto insurance. When I asked how that's possible.... seeing as I do not have full auto coverage (because I don't have a car, hence needing the rental).... they said it's pretty much not possible and that the policy was specifically meant to prevent local residents from renting from them. When I asked why, they said it was to prevent auto theft. Are. you. serious. No one called to inform me of their change in policy, and they left me with literally zero options. I asked if I could purchase THEIR auto insurance, and they said they couldn't sell it to a local. Not only were they incredibly unhelpful, but they were unprofessional and disorganized.
