The staff at pickup was excellent. The staff at drop-off was horrible - the lady was rude. The car rode fine - but: The car smelled like cleaning perfume at pickup but by the next day that smell evaporated and the car stunk like smoke the next four days. I had no smokers in the car but the people that I gave rides to all complained about the stinky odor. It was apparently not deep cleaned before they gave me the car.Reviewed 30 Mar 2026

I got there at 2am after flight delays of 12 hrs. Wait time for service was 1 hr in line. Then I get a car that is outside running with the window down in 20degree weather. No keys to be found. Apparently the cleaners took them home with them. After 30 mins the next vehicle I was given was a van, I left the lot going down I-96 and the rear trunk lid went up. I stopped and couldn't get it to close. I go back to the rental lot and they can't get it closed. It was frozen from the car wash. The budget people were polite and efficient. It wasn’t very easy to find the exit from the lot. Poor signage and lighting. The car was a ford escape and I would not want to rent it again. The found selector is poorly designed and not like any other car I’ve driven. Even the start button is not obvious and the usb port was hidden in the back of a well with no lights or symbols. Absolutely terrible. There was a line of about 100 people at the Budget office and maybe 15 people in line for the Avis office that shared the same space. The person at the desk was only helping the Avis customers so the Budget line never moved. People were getting fed up and yelling.
