Top tips for hiring a car from Budget in Staten Island

  • When you book Budget car rentals in Staten Island, you’re probably not going to limit yourself to only driving in this particular borough. While you’re in town, you may also make your way to Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the other New York City boroughs as well as neighboring New Jersey. If this is your plan, make sure you sign up for Budget’s e-toll program. For a small fee, plus the cost of tolls, you’ll be able to rely on an electronic transponder on your rental car to take care of tolls for you so that you aren’t constantly scrambling to find the cash to pay them.
  • If you haven’t ever driven in Staten Island before, it’s going to be quite an adventure when you start doing it. The borough has notoriously bad traffic, so if you can, you might want to shy away from renting a large vehicle that’s going to make it difficult to get out of traffic. Instead of going with something like an SUV, consider renting a compact car that will be easier to maneuver when you’re stuck in traffic. It may help take the edge off when you’re navigating the SI streets.
  • When you arrive in Staten Island and go to pick up your rental car from Budget, the last thing you want to do is get stuck in a long line that’ll hold you up. Budget always works to keep things moving as quickly as they can, but even still,  you may want to give thought to signing up for the Budget Fastbreak Program in advance. It’s free to sign up, and it’ll give you access to much faster service overall so that you can pick your rental car up and be on your way.
  • Driving around in Staten Island and the other NYC boroughs can be confusing for those who are doing it for the first time. It’s why you might want to look into the possibility of renting a GPS system from Budget before getting behind the wheel of a rental car when you book Budget car rentals in Staten Island. This GPS system will help you steer clear of getting lost in SI. It’ll also help you avoid traffic jams in the area that you might end up in otherwise.
  • Small car hire from Budget in Staten Island are around 59% cheaper than other car types, on average.

I spent over three hours going back-and-forth before I could get a car, because they did not honor the original agreement saying that it was Memorial Day weekend and they would charge me for Tuesday even though I was dropping the car off on Monday, it’s a scam. They said they had to create a new agreement and not use the old one, I now I have to call Budget customer service for a refund, the customer service office told me that I need to call after I complete my trip. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had renting a car.Reviewed 31 May 2022
