Cons: The tiny shoe box of a car that I rented (Ford Fiesta) was nowhere near worth what I paid. It was the cheapest option I could find and thus I had no real choice, but still not worth it.

Pickup and dropoff of site
Pros: Clean, cheap, reasonable price although i chose dropoff at different location than pickup

Price did not match what was booked
Cons: I booked on kayak for 110.00 tax inclusive. When I got to the car rental desk it was 131.00. I know it is only 20 dollars and I did not have time to argue because I was running late but this was very misleading.

A car will get you around
Pros: The car was fine - just a little confusing to find since I was told a row with 6 options but there were only two cars available.
Cons: The site is ghetto......it is off of the airport, which is fine, but the car lot was just ghetto...dirty and disorganized.

They denied my rental
Cons: After a line of nearly an hour, they denied my rental because I only had debit cards (I did the reservation with the same debit card). When tried to switch the reservation to my wife, they said it wasn't possible and made a new one, of course more expensive than the original. I don't think I will ever repeat with them.

Pros: Finding the drop off on Tryon was nearly impossible. Literally hidden. Make better directional signage!
The price was great. The check in was super easy. All staff VERY friendly. I wouldn't buy that model of car but it met my needs for this trip.

Pros: Car was clean
Cons: Need more signage at airport for returning car. BEWARE, they are great for wanting you to upgrade which of course will increase the cost. Have your agreement available from when you booked on line to confirm the agreed cost. Use of kiosk takes even longer to use then speaking with someone at the counter.

Cons: When I got to the airport to pickup my car, the retailer told me there were additional fees and taxes that I needed to pay because it was an airport pickup. I was also charged an additional amount when I dropped it off, again because the drop-off was at an airport. I also paid for a intermediate sized car but was given a Ford Fiesta. I was disappointed in this experience and would not recommend Hertz to anyone.

Overall good, location issue
Pros: Great little car! Drop off was painless.
Cons: My car was equipped with an easy pass for toll lanes, but it wasn't until I had a problem that I found out that you had to open a box in order to use it, that was not explain to me when the car was given to me, I had to look up to the pass and read it. I'm guessing will get a fine in the mail.

Great Rental at an Amazing Weekend Rate!
Pros: Great price. Nice people at the service desk. Fast in and out.
Cons: Be aware that it is quite a hike between the terminal and the garage where the cars are stored. This is the same for EVERY car rental company at DCA. I was fine, but if I'd had a lot of stuff to carry or my elderly parents had been with me, it would have been a problem for sure.
Cons: Not the friendliest customer service agent. Also pretty expensive for a one way rental.

Good, but not great
Pros: Good car in good condition. Return was easy, fast, and hassle-free. I liked that I could quickly and easily walk on the covered route from the terminal to the rental car center without taking their stupid shuttle bus.
Cons: The lady at the Fast Break kiosk was not very friendly, and the staff at the main rental counter seemed to be playing rock-paper-scissors NOT to be the one who did the work of renting us our car.

Pros: We had a Ford Escape, it was a great car and worked very well for the short weekend. The price was good for airport pickup, which is always expensive with tacked on taxes.
Cons: Budget was short on cars and we had to wait 30 minutes to get the car. Also, short on people during busy weekend, and we had to wait longer to figure out how to get the Emergency Light off! It would have been ideal to keep the owner's manual in the car.
On the other hand, the check out process was very easy and efficient.

Car we not clean or modern

Cons: I went with another rental company bc Budget had a huge line and too few people at the counter. Hertz had no line and plenty of staff.
Cons: Reserved car on line with no problem using my debit card. Arrived at Avis, line was very long. Waited in line one hour to reach agent. At end of check-out process she told me my card we declined and she could not rent me a car. I was using my card frequently and it was never declined. She insisted she could not rent me a car because of a "soft credit check" by Equifax. So I went next door to Hertz and gave them my business.

Pros: The car was clean, new, and drop off was very easy.
Cons: The rental was over $125 more than quoted on Kayak. Waited in line for over an hour to be told that if I didn't like the price AVIS was giving me I could go to a different counter in the terminal.

Poor Customer Service
Pros: Terrible customer service. I left a package in the back seat of the car I rented and when trying to call for customer service in the DCA airport nobody answered.
I had to drive all the way to the airport and they couldn't find the car that I rented because I didn't have my contract with them even though o showed them my reservation number. Not helpful at all.

First time ever to use Avis
Pros: Very easy to get through the check out process in D.C. And the car performed well and was spacious. Used to like Enterprise but Avis was a much better value and the experience was great.

Prepaid gas? No thanks
Pros: They stuck me with prepaid gas even though I didn't want it. When I objected they said they would take off the charge if I brought it back full. I brought it back full and they asked for my gas receipt, which I didn't receive at the gas station. Eventually they took off the charge but acted like they were doing me a big favor.
Also their pickup/drop off process at DCA is a mess.

DCA Avis Rental Counter - Comically Poor Service
Cons: Your folks working at the counter at DCA hopefully aren't actually getting paid for that "work". I watched the woman helping me clean her glasses for 10 minutes while she had a conversation with the customer being helped next to me, about how women at the Washington Nationals games no longer wear panties. I quite literally started laughing at how awful, incompetant, lazy, and rude your service was. It by itself ruined my day and ensured Avis will never recieve another dollar from me.
Further, in the DCA garage, I was yelled at for being confused as to why the garage floor indicactes one parking spot number, while the small tags that hang above the same spaces indicate another. Obviously its the customer's fault for not realizing that, as was pointed out to me. There was also a huge dead mosquito in the back of my Mazda 6 which was great.
Avis - suggest you change your motto to Lazy and Incompetant so people have a better idea of what to expect. Thanks!

Cons: The attendant at the kiosk was a little chatty with the people ahead of us in the line. So it felt like we waited in that line longer than usual. Additionally, the driver's door was dented so we had to wait in another line to find out how to deal with it. Once that was sorted, it was a breeze and returning the car was very fast

Great car but Poor customer service
Pros: The car ran well- nice and clean.
Cons: We couldn't find the ez pass so tried calling for help. After 30 minutes of getting shuffled from one person to another we hung up as no one could tell us where to find it.
Also, we declined the insurance but were charged for it anyway. I'm sure an honest mistake but one that cost us an extra $30.99 for a three hour rental.

Car was fine -- Avis staff were abysmal.
Pros: The car was fine.
Cons: Avis staff were rude, uncommunicative and unhelpful. Very long wait to pickup car, no explanation, lots of chaos and confusion. Staff were fighting with each other and ignoring customers. Total lack of accountability or basic customer service.

Worked as advertised
Pros: Rented Ford Taurus. Drove from Washington DC to Miami and back without issues. Car was clean and functional. Got additional insurance through Kayak 3rd party at a fraction of the price that Avis would charge.
Cons: Comfort rating isn't a reflection on Avis, more about the long distance comfort of the vehicle itself.
Pick-up/Drop-off location at 1722 M street opens precisely at 7am. No early/late drop-off available.
Pros: there was nothing to like because YOU GAVE MY CAR AWAY
Cons: No car! I thought I had reserved a car - I had, in fact. But because I didn't arrive at the time I had reserved (I was an hour late), they gave my car to someone else, and had no other cars available. We tried calling 3 others Enterprise locations but no one had a car.
I had reserved a car for 24 hrs. If the staff wasn't sure I was still coming to pick it up, why not call or email? Or if they don't want to contact me BEFORE, why not contact me AFTER so I don't waste a trip to the pickup location? Completely UNACCEPTABLE and ridiculous.
This is not how a car "reservation" should work. If you have a policy that customer must arrive within X minutes of car's reservation time, please make that clear so we know what the window of time is, or so we know when we need to modify the reservation to adjust the pickup time in advance.
BAD EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!! Why would anyone make a reservation with Enterprise if we're not guaranteed an actual car? This was for an important trip to a hospital to visit a sick family member. Luckily I was able to get a car from Hertz.

Pros: The folks at the 1069 Vermont Ave Enterprise in DC were incredibly nice in helping pick out my car before departing on my trip and were gracious upon return. I will definitely be renting from this Enterprise location in the future. It was a seamless and pleasant experience I will be recommending to friends. Thank you for helping make our holiday travels easier.

Cons: The person at the front desk was very very disrespectful to me and my husband. He claimed that he called and left a message and since we didn't call him back, we don't have a car. He also lectured us on how we need to answer our call when someone calls. we assured him that we didn't get a call but it didn't help. This was the worst experience of my life.

Pros: The pickup was very easy and quick. The car was clean and performed well.
Cons: When I went to drop off the car, the gate wouldn't open, saying the garage was full. It wasn't. After a while I finally figured out that I had to drive around the building and enter the garage from the top of the hill and drive all the way down through the garage. This whole process was unclear and added at least 30 minutes to my drop off which should have been easy.
Cons: I pick up the car with an empty gas tank and returned it empty too but i was charged for the empty tank.
I am asking the company to refund the amount of money charged to my debit card

Pros: 1. We picked car up at Dulles airport and dropped it at Union Station with no extra charge.
2. We used the online checkout feature so we were able to skip the line and pick up our car from the lot.

Very hard to find!
Pros: Very easy to access from the city
Quick & easy drop off
Cons: The place was incredibly hard to find. There are no signs. Instruction in confirmation were not clear enough. We called customer service because we drove around for about 39 mins and they were also not able to give us info on how to get there. They transferred us to the location desk and we were on hold for 15 minutes and no one picked up.

Good Price but Poor Vehicle Quality
Pros: Price was good and pickup personnel were attentive
Cons: The first vehicle (Economy) did not have a working passenger seatbelt. I switched for a second vehicle which had a very noisy ventilation fan/ motor. Unfortunately, it was 20 degrees at the time, so heat and the fan were necessary. In any event, it was only a day trip, so it was not the worst.
Pros: Drop off folks 9:30 pm 6-17 were very courteous and helpful - pointing me towards terminal
Cons: Reserved a compact car for pickup at Reagen National Tuesday June 15th, 2017 close to Midday. But was given a gas guzzling Chevy Impala (they said they didn't have any compacts to give me). Was also told at the rental counter that my car would have an EZ Pass for tolls. But when I took possession of car - no EZ Pass. Attendant in garage told me, "I don't have any EZ Pass cars to give you." Not having an EZ Pass is a major inconvenience in the Metro DC area (slows you down and you have to have exact change).
Finally, when I took possession of the Impala, it had several significant scratches on the front and rear bumper. Asked garage attendent for car diagram to document the scratches (BEFORE I left garage). She said, "the attendent at the rental garage exit point will help you." But when I saw the last attendent he didn't have the diagrams either and seemed irritated that I was requesting a diagram to document scratches (so I wouldn't get charged for scratches upon returning car). Drew up a diagram myself by hand and the attendant seemed irritated When I asked him to sign diagram (once again - in an effort to protect myself from liability). He signed the hand drawn diagram in an illegible fashion (making me feel uneasy about taking car). But I was in a rush so I left garage. About an hour or 90 minutes later I called the customer service toll free number on the Payless sleeve that contained my rental agreement. After a 15 minute wait on hold , woman on hold told me I'd dialed the wrong number (she told me to call road side assistance. Called and put on hold again. Filing a claim was a long and terrible experience. I will rent from Hertz now. Will never rent a car from Payless or Budget ever again. And I will never fky into Reagan National again. Will fly into Dulles.

Bait and switch
Pros: Car was clean.
Cons: I ordered and paid for a Jeep Cherokee or similar (i.e. a mid-size SUV that could hold five suitcases), but Payless tried to give me a Jeep Compass (a compact cross-over) and claim it was "similar" - not even close. The Compass hold four duffle bags, not five suitcases. After a lot of complaining on my part, they "upgraded" me to a Ford Escape, which is what they should have given me in the first place. I spent an hour total in line because they were trying to give me the runaround. Then I had to wait in line again when I dropped off the car (rather than just leaving the keys with the parking attendant, as usual) because the system couldn't locate my rental agreement. Total of 1 1/2 spent in line due to their nonsense.

Interesting Business Model and Rental
Pros: Price was good. Always wanted to try a Fit which is a nice car. Interesting business model - Avis is the new cars, then they go to Budget, and finally to Payless. This one was a former Zip car, you could still see where the logo was removed. Fellow at the rental desk was very nice. I might try Budget next time.
Cons: Car smelled faintly as though someone had smoked in it. The cargo cover was missing.

Easy-Peasy and Great Fun
Pros: Really liked the ease of picking up the car at Reagan National, which is just a short Metro ride from downtown Washington, D.C. The car was current model Ford Fusion. It drove well and had all the right electronics to integrate with my iPhone. Really comfortable for our family of three, plus adding my aunt when we picked her up.

Clerk was a jerk
Cons: Have rented many cars in my life, few if any delivered by a clerk who palpably cared not at all for the customers. Real jerk. Terrible marketing for Payless.
Pros: The lady who helped me to my car was the shining moment with this car.
Cons: The car smelled of cigarette smoke. I didn't realize it until I had pulled out of the garage, and it was too late. It was the most basic model of some kind of Kia, and it was outdated.

Reagan airport rental
Pros: There was no pressure to buy their insurance, which is unusual for car rental companies. And we got a ride to our terminal after dropping off the car. It was worth the tip to the driver.
Cons: Thrifty is now on-airport at Reagan National, but this wasn't clear on GPS or airport signage.

Cons: Rented a car for one day and they asked me 10,000 questions. Was in town for a funeral and don't understand why that was any of their business. My husband and I have the same credit card - same exact number, we just each have our name on o e. We inadvertently swapped cards and they wouldn't let me use it. I went to use debit and they first needed to check my credit score?!, see my return flight info and see more ID. It was such a hassle.
