Not bad if you dont mind roaches...Pros:It did the job, had pretty awesome gas mileage, and allowed us to go all over the island to see what we wanted to see.Cons:Pretty quickly after picking it up we started seeing bugs, and only saw more and more as we went along. They looked like baby roaches, which was completely disgusting. We didn't have food in the car or anything and still we were seeing them crawling all over! We called Payless and they gave us a new car without issue, which I appreciated, though it sucked having to drive all the way back to the kona airport, which was nowhere near where we stayed. Unfortunately, the first thing we saw when we opened the door to the replacement vehicle, was another roach. We decided to just suck it up and take the car, as we had already wasted a lot of our day driving up there, and honestly, sometimes in Hawaii there is just no avoiding the roaches, but it was very disgusting and I really think Payless should take measures to avoid this in the future. As for me, I won't be using Payless again.Reviewed 31 May 2016

1 hour wait to pick it up, no wiper fluidCons:There was about 15 rentals ahead of us, close to 50 people, all reservations and they didn't care. Ones we got to the counter, the clerk was pushing extra insurance, more expensive car, fuel options and got annoyed when I refered to all the people in the line behind us. Then two of my credit cards "didn't work" and when I said that they work all over the world and I was told that they might have been stopped. Turned out they have to call somewhere to authorize the card for all the customers (I didn't realize what they were doing while waiting in line). The Jeep will need new brakes and wheel lubrication soon. It didn't break down! There was no wiper fluid, so I had to stop by Target to get some. Nothing short of awfulCons:We waited in line for 3 hours to get our car. Everyone had a reservation so it should have been no surprise at all that everyone was coming at that time and they should have been better prepared. When we finally got to the booth the lady tried to upsell me to a 4x4 specifically by saying that you can’t drive to the green sand beach without one. I didnt take her offer. My research about that beach actually showed that it is illegal to drive that road. Finally, the car was dirty when we got it. Smudges all over the inside of the windshield. Cons:I reserved a convertible almost 2-weeks in advance..Upon arrival I was advised that no convertibles were available - - after much time = =almost an hour while the counter person went back and forth with the manager, also checking out back to see if there was a convertible, he advised me that I should come back tomorrow to get the car I ordered (they would give me a car to use). I suggested that they deliver the car to where I was staying. His answer was NO....- THEN their computers went down, which added at lest another half hour before I got a car. The next day I called them - - no body answers...just a bunch of prompts - - I left a message for the manager....called again and left a message for customer service (voice mail) that person only works M-F. Nobody called me back.You need to train employees in Customer Service. This location is also a Budget rental location. I WILL NOT USE YOUR COMPANY AGAIN...Reviewed 23 Apr. 2018

Very poor maintained car and huge line for checkoutPros:I was able to exchange the car to some better one.Cons:First of all we've go to the rental facility late in the evening and there were just 2 representatives who were working very slow. We spent about 1 hour just waiting in line. When I booked a car on the website there was "Audi convertible or similar" but cashier told me that there is no Audi at all and the only car I can get is a Ford Mustang. That could be worse, so I agreed. Then I've got the car and it was horrible. It squeaked all the times, the wheels were almost square and way to unbalanced, one tire was leaking, windows were very dirty so I wasn't able even to see clearly in the night. Pros:The staff was so nice and friendly. I had to wait about 5 minutes before I spoke to an agent which was fine. Then we had about a 8 minute wait till the car arrived. It was clean and good for us.Cons:I’m not sure I agree with the “film the car as insurance that you got it in this condition”.
