All bad, nothing goodPros:NothingCons:First of all, the ONLY reason I even used Dollar is because they actually had a car during the hurricane. They ripped me off for this because they charged me $560 for a one way rental that I was going to need for all of 4 hours. But, I had to drive because all the flights were canceled, so I sucked their price gouging. First I had to wait in line for probably 30 minutes to get the car. Not HORRIBLE, except I'm used to pick up and go from any other car rental. The car they gave me had awful wipers in a rain storm and about 17 PSI tire pressure in the back tire. Of course it's hard to realize this until you are several miles from the rental place. There was absolutely zero redeeming qualities about renting from this company.Reviewed 20 Sep. 2018

DisconnectedCons:There was a definite disconnect between Dollar Car rental and Kayak. My son made reservations for me a car at Dollar Car rental on Kayak to be picked up at Charlotte, NC airport at 12 noon. When I arrived at the airport rental desk, they first could not find my reservation and told me I could make a new reservation. Then the manager got involved and found my reservation but the time was different and was insisting the model was too small and I needed to upgrade and the rental time would be 4pm instead of 12noon (my initial pick-up time),,, These issues are unacceptable are considered high pressure tactics. My reason for renting the car was my fathers death only hours before making these reservations. I don't appreciate these difficulties under normal conditions. Pros:NothingCons:Better cleaning of the cars! We have to request a change of car because it was dirty, smelling really bad and with scratches everywhere, the 2nd one didn’t smell but all the roof was dirty with something white and with scratches all over the car. Also, we requested to add a 2nd driver and they want to charge us $15 per day, when in other occasions we did it for free!Reviewed 5 Oct. 2020

Will never rent from them againPros:Classic bait & switch. Booked a full-size car online. Got to the counter only to be told that was an internet special price for a compact or economy car. But, it was a "choice" lot so I could pick any car I wanted & just pay the upgrade fee. Then they wouldn't even tell me how much that upgrade fee would be until I actually went & picked out the car & drove it to the checkout point. What a scam! We walked away & rented from Budget instead. I also hated the remote teller...would much rather talk to a live person.Reviewed 2 Jan. 2017

Bait and SwitchPros:I got a box that took me from place A to B. Drop off rep was nice and efficientCons:Pick up rep was rude. I didn't get the car I booked. They clearly made me believe that I am getting a standard car. And also clearly mentioned 2 bags and 5 passengers. The car was the smallest possible. 5 passengers would be 3 toddlers in the back. 2 bags? I couldn't fit 2 carry on in the back ... One carry on and a backpack. I will never ever have any dealings with dollar again. I have rented many times with Alamo and never had such an issue. If anything I got upgraded for free. This is sheer theft. Had they been upfront I would have paid the extra 2 dollars and get the size I wanted. At dollar they requested a lot more but only when I got there. Pros:The car was fine. Clean and good mileage.Cons:The self service kiosk is terrible. My experience was awful. The customer service representative was rude and the holding fees were excessive. I was renting for 1 day and there was a $350 hold fee. Also the communication between downstairs and upstairs is extremely poor. The paperwork did not print from the kiosk and the representative in the kiosk informed me that they could print the paperwork upstairs when I picked up the car. That information was incorrect and after going upstairs I was informed i would have to go back downstairs and get the information reprinted. There was just a lot going on for just a one day rental. Beware of upsells for Insurance & Roadside assistaPros:The car itself was fine.Cons:At pickup, when asked about insurance & roadside assistance I related to the rep that we already had insurance and did not need any additional services. She then said "So you are OK with the minimum then?" I replied yes, thinking that the "minimum" meant nothing. We were in a hurry and I did not look carefully when signing so when we got to the drop off location, I discovered that that we had an additional $45 in charges that i was not expecting because I agreed to their "minimum". Called customer service but they didn't want to hear it. Bottom line is I signed the contract. Buyer beware. Cons:DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! It’s filled with thieves who stand up for dishonest and misleading “customer service.” We asked to talk to a manager after being charged $400 extra, when we were supposed to pay only $60-ish (taxes) at check in, but we were given no answers and no refund. I asked several times about the breakdown of the cost & wasn’t given answers. The woman finally told me the cost included a $200 refundable deposit, so we came to the conclusion that other $200 was the expected total that includes what we had paid online to reserve the car. WRONG!!! Unfortunately we didn’t find this out until my credit card was already charged twice. The woman charged me double & because I signed under misleading information, the company wouldn’t do anything about it. The “manager” at Charlotte Douglas airport, Julie, was utterly useless and continued to defend the employee’s tactics and the company’s dishonesty. She offered a gift certificate—as if we’d EVER want to use the piece of sh*t company again!!!!! SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR WALLET AND DON’T TRUST A WORD THESE PEOPLE TELL YOU!!!!!!! Pros:Car was as expected, very clean and comfortable.Cons:Service was not as expected. We found ourselves very confused about the pick up and drop off procedure with no guidance from the staff. You are simply assigned a type of car and you pick one out and drive it out... it feels like stealing a car so we went back to check if we needed to do anything else, the staff was very sharp and answered “only if you have a problem, what’s your problem”. Upon leaving we needed to present the receipt for the car which we had already packed into the trunk. A little communication from the staff would have made this process much smoother! Drop off was a similar experience. No signs designating what to do or anyone to greet us when we arrived. I ended up asking another customer what to do and finally staff commented that they will evaluate the car. Again, unnecessary confusion and lack of communication.Reviewed 4 Jan. 2020
