I've never reviewed anyone or anything until now- NEVER USE PAYLESSCons:- The car I reserved only 20 minutes before getting to the counter wasn't there when I got there. They tried to give me a lower class of car for the same price since I prepaid. I had to correct them to get the fair rate. - Upon return there were so many little hidden scam fees on my rental. A two day rental on the compact vehicle ended up costing me $212. I returned it with an 8th of a tank missing and they charged me $60 for gas. - I asked to close out on a different card than the one I used to reserve the car which they said I could. I reminded them when I closed out and they said no problem, then they ran the wrong card and couldn't reverse it. I asked to speak to a manager and they said I couldn't and there was nothing I could do, I'd have to call the customer service number. I wasn't satisfied with that answer and they started threatening me to call security if I didn't step away from the counter. THEY escalated the anger so quickly when I should have been the only one angry. I was recording them the whole time when things seemed off, once they realized I was recording they tried to tell me it was illegal (it's not) and I would be arrested if I didn't stop. - I called the 800 number they directed me to and it was past 5 so nobody on the other end could help me. Went back to the counter to say "I've worked in MANY different places where cards are ran and there's always a way to reverse a transaction. They said I didn't know what I was talking about and called security over just for asking to speak to someone higher up than the counter person. Airport security didn't know what was going on so they took the counter person's word and they forced me out of the building. - Finally got in touch with someone at the 800 number the following day and they said it was too late to change the card but the people at the counter absolutely could and should have canceled the transaction. I was right all along and made to look like some criminal. This was hands down the worst experience I've received anywhere, from any company as a paying customer. I've been to jail before and was treated better by the police than Payless treated me.Reviewed 6 Apr. 2017

Never AgainCons:I had a reservation for 10am and when I got to the reservation desk, they told me it was an hour and a half wait and there was at least 15 people ahead of me (also with reservations), but that I was welcome to shop around. Everywhere was booked or had outrageous prices. I ended up getting a car 2.5x the price of my original reservation somewhere else bc I had a work event at noon (which I was subsequently late for due to dealing with this). They didn’t call me until 1:30pm to tell me the car was ready. Horrible experience!Reviewed 20 May 2018

Atlanta - Payless Car RentalPros:NOTHINGCons:When I arrived the desk staff @ Payless told me THERE WERE NO CARS! Even though I had a reservation. I was told I would have to wait till cars were returned. I waited 1 hour and when I went to the garage the Payless LOT was full with PAYLESS RENTAL CARS of all size and models. I don't know what type of scam this was but it cost me a delay in business meetings I had scheduled upon my arrival. I will never rent from Payless. I would highly recommend blocking this company on your website. There were other people affected by their NO CARS available. I know a couple went to Enterprise. I also was making a reservation with Enterprise when they finally called for me to return to their desk. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER with a car rental company.Reviewed 13 Mar. 2017

COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLECons:I arrived in a timely manner for my 3:00pm rental pick up. There were about ten people in line ahead of me and the line was moving very slowly. A Payless representative came out after I'd been in line for about ten minutes and said that they were out of cars and would take those with reservations on a first come, first served basis and it would be at least 45 minutes before the first car would be available. The Payless representatives did nothing to assist with locating other rental cars, offered no assistance or suggestions. I will NEVER rent from Payless again.Reviewed 24 May 2017

Missed the eclipsePros:CarCons:I reserved the car allowing 3 1/2 hours to get from the Atlanta airport to the South Carolina border (typically less than 2 hours) to see the total eclipse. That morning I tried calling the desk multiple times to confirm that a car would be waiting for me. No answer. Sent an email to help desk asking for same, no response. Finally called the call center and they assure me that my reservation would be honored. Atlanta airport was very efficient and I was at the rental desk in record time - but had to wait almost 2 hours for a vehicle. Traffic was heavy - I expected that. Ended up missing eclipse by 15 minutes. non-experience was priceless!!Reviewed 23 Aug. 2017

Pros:You can't blame the counter staff for a fusarium operationCons:Cars weren't available on schedule and had to wait. No one available to check in on return. Payless counter was closed had to go to Avis. Also it was twice as expensive compared to Seattle and Dallas.Reviewed 31 May 2020

Worst rental experience ever.Pros:Nothing good.Cons:When I went to pick up my car at 11pm at the ATL airport, I was told their computers were down and they were not renting out cars. I inquired if they had worked out a deal with other rental car companies to honor my rate or give a comparable rate and was told no. The rental companies were closing in less than an hou, I had a 14 month old, toddler car seat, 3 bags and was scrambling going car rental company to car rental company trying to get a car. There was no heads up given by the company letting me know there was going to be an issue via email to give me time to pre plan.Reviewed 17 Oct. 2016

Cons:When I got to the airport to rent the car, they said I needed some kind of bill that has my current address on it. I ran downstairs to my truck, got my mortgage bill and came back upstairs to the counter. When I got there, they said the mortgage bill will not suffice. They said I needed a utility bill and that a pdf file would be good enough. When I started looking on my phone to get a pdf file of my latest utility bill, they told me that they were not aware of a recent change in their policy and that I would need a hard copy of the utility bill. Since I did not have a hard copy of a utility bill, I went to the company next door, Alamo, to rent a car, even though I did not have a reservation. I had already bought the online insurance and it did not transfer to the Alamo rental. I ended up paying twice as much to Alamo than I signed up to pay at Payless. I almost feel as though Payless doesn't want any customers. It was a horrible experience.Reviewed 19 Sep. 2017

The worst rental experience ever!!Pros:Nothing!Cons:They fish you with low online prices and then try to jag it up. They would not take my Debitcars, which that's how the reservation was made and refused to rent me a car then.. The rental place next to them would of taken my Card. ..but the car was over $250 dollar more expensive!!! I was stuck there and thank God for Enterprise Car rental!! Within 3 min I had a car and also to a super low rate with my Debit card!! No question asked. The nicest people and it took me only a couple min not like with Payless almost 2 hours of BS!!
