scammersPros:the person working the counter at pickup was nice. the sripoff setup at midway airport is efficient.Cons:they tried to charge me an additional $160 at pickup when I showed up 20 minutes early, then they couldn't figure out why the price was so much higher than the rate I has confirmed online. eventually I waited an extra hour so I could get the original rate. no idea why they didn't tell me that I would be charged so much extra for an early pickup. they just printed the bill and tried to get me to sign it. THEN, they tried to scam me out of nearly $400 when I needed the car an extra two days due to a blizzard canceling my flight. I was trying to return the car on time to an alternate location but they refused to give me a quote on the updated cost. eventually I realized if I return the car 20 minutes before the time they told me, it would reduce the new rate by more than $300. (keeping it to daily rate instead of weekly.) why the customer service rep didn't simply suggest this is beyond me. they obviously are hoping people won't have the energy to argue the exorbitant additional prices they sneak in.Reviewed 20 Mar. 2017

Pros:Unfortunately I fell down a flight of stairs and was unable to drive except for the first couple of days of my 2 week rental. Due to the terms of the agreement I was unable to return the car early or designate another driver (unless we both returned to the place of the rental....with me driving.) The car was great but I won't try this again.....too inflexible. The empoyees at pick up and return were very efficient and friendly and helpful. I had to drive the car back for the return which was unbelievably painful.Cons:The price and restrictions.Reviewed 11 Mar. 2016

Lack of initial information! Poor customer servicePros:I did not like anything about my experience.Cons:Because your company did not initially inform me that Chicago residents could not rent from the company it ruined my entire trip. I traveled almost an hour and a half from the north side of Chicago to Midway Airport thinking that I had a car reserved. I even called TWO TIMES to confirm. I even asked the agents on the phone if there was anything that I needed to know and had also given them my address. There should be an alert in your system if one of the car companies does not rent to people who aren't flying in or out of the airport. I ended up having to take a Greyhound bus the next day to Detroit which took me 7 hours and caused me to miss the birth of my first niece. I am NO HAPPY about my experience what so ever.Reviewed 7 Mar. 2017

Pros:The friendliness of the staff. They were presented with a failing that was out of their control, and they did their best to resolve the situation.Cons:My vehicle wasn't available when I arrived, on time, to pick it up. I wasn't a walk-up. I reserved this rental well in advance. I wasn't the only one waiting, either. I ended up waiting for nearly an hour (we were told it would take 15 minutes) before my partner and I walked up to the counter to complain. The staff was friendly and did their best to resolve the situation. Not long after complaining, we were on our way, but not before the delay forced us to miss an appointment and change other travel plans. Despite the professionalism of the staff, I'm not sure I'd rent from Thrifty again. I suspect that this incident is the result of an overbooking practice. When I book a vehicle in advance, I expect it to be there when I arrive. I've never had this issue with any other rental car company.Reviewed 28 Oct. 2018

Ford EscapePros:The size of the vehicle met our needs. Overall, it was a comfortable ride.Cons:The agent who helped us was great, but when we went to the garage to get our car, we were pointed to the parking space number our car was supposedly in. No one walked us to the car or around the car for inspection. As we began to drive out of the garage, an employer at the gate took our paperwork and said we had the wrong car. We told him we took the car we were directed to by the garage attendant and what was on our paperwork. We had to drive back and saw that our assigned car was parked out by where the garage attendant was. Not sure why he pointed us in the wrong direction. We had to unload our luggage and load into the other car with two small children. The tire treads on the car were bald and thankful nothing happened while on a long road trip from Chicago to Cinncinati.Reviewed 17 Jun. 2018

Cons:I was supposed to get a specialty car and was given a compact. I questioned it and was told that was not the case that this was a specialty car. Most defiantly not. When arriving the parking garage there was a line of cars in front of me with a sign over them that said specialty cars. Then I was really upset. Being out of cars is one thing but lying about it is another. I am extremely disappointed in the service and staff I experienced.Reviewed 10 Feb. 2017

Wrong car, no info and no signage.Cons:When the shuttle dropped us off at the desk (late at night 1:00) there was no one at the Thrifty desk. There were no signs directing us to another counter etc. After waiting for a while I saw a clerk from another company and asked if anyone was working the thrift desk. He said "oh you have to go up to the 3rd floor". The 3rd floor emptied off into the garage. I found the Thrifty booth, where there was 1 employee. The car I reserved was a Suburban....they had nothing in it's class. Only small SUVs...which we finally settled on. We loaded the car and drove 5 feet and had to wait another 15 minutes until the clerk finished with the next customer to walk over and open the gate for us to exit. When we returned the car the thrifty lot was closed 1:30am (no signage...just a car parked in the path). We (along with a security guard) circled the garage for 20 minutes looking for some sign that gave direction...nothing. The security guard then stated that we could leave the vehicle with Hertz...again...no one at the hertz check in so we are hoping that we were not charged the extra day (We returned the same time it was rented). Pros:Car was clean, spacious and drove well.Cons:Very tired of rental car check in counter employee tacking on "optional" charges. I want exactly what I reserved. Nothing more, nothing less for the price at which I reserved the rental. If I didn't want insurance when I reserved the car I do not want it now. Bait and switch. Also, my car seat would not adjust so hopefully they will fix that for future customer. I took it "as is" only because it took me 40 minutes to get my rental car and it was 1 am in the morning and had an hour drive to hotel.Reviewed 24 Mar. 2016
