Upcharges and oversell at the DeskPros:The car was clean and reliableCons:Desk clerk boldly lied to me that fuel was over $3.00 per gallon on the street and I should opt to pre-pay for a full tank. I was flustered from the long line and checking another flight in a panic and despite it sounding really irrational and genuinely stating "That's insane, that's not right." I did pre-pay and returned the car flat-out empty, but spend hundreds of driving miles passing stations at $2.29 and $2.39. NPR reported that weeked no Fuel in the country over $2.79. I was also told the third party insurance wasn't accepted despite my pre-buy on that. Having been stung by a different company in Seattle over it, I did opt out and had a very sinking feeling about the pre-buy gas then. Sorting through lies is demeaning. My business will continue into the sharing economy car programs so I can at least rate humans if they lie.Reviewed 28 Nov. 2016

Pros:The car was very clean and in great condition.Cons:I feel like they took advantage of the 4th of July holiday and drastically raised their prices due to high demand. I ended up paying $150 for only 1 day (tax included) and all I got was a Nissan Altima.Reviewed 6 Jul. 2020

Pros:The car was freshly washed and obviously sprayed out with a "cover scent".Cons:The car smelled thickly of cigarette smoke that only seemed to get worse during the week. The clerk at the desk was obviously struggling to stay calm as there were a number of customers turned away due to lack of vehicles and scrambling to fill reservations. The statement that the vehicle seated seven was overly optimistic. Maybe seven young children, but six adults were difficult to cram into the car for long periods of time.Reviewed 29 Mar. 2021

Pros:Drop off was easy. Eddie was great and very friendly.Cons:Took over an hour to get rental. There were 4 customers in front of me. Inside desk did not immediately have someone manning it, so everyone went outside. Then we were told to go inside and it took very long just to process the renters. The customer in front of me had an issue with her reservation which took a long time, so the manager got my car ready, but it was still a very long wait.Reviewed 10 Jan. 2021

Chicago Midway Airport HertzCons:Upon arrival in Chicago Midway Airport we clocked in at 1:28. We rented from 1pm two days before to 1 pm. On the drive in, I even called customer service to make sure that we had a half hour window before being charged an extra day of $62 plus. When our car was scanned in by a lady with an iPad at 1:28pm, I didn't see a problem until the girl at the counter said we would be charged another full day. If it says 30 minutes, it needs to be 30 minutes. We asked to talk to a manager, she went to get one, and the same woman came out only to tell us that we would still owe another day charge. So we asked again to speak to the manager who wouldn't come out. She was extremely short with me, I explained that I had just made the drive from New Orleans to Chicago to save money on flights, so $62 is a lot of money to me. Especially since I drove like hell to get there in time. Which I did. She told me she could do nothing about it as she didn't make the reservation. I pleaded with her and said it made no sense as it says we arrived at 1:28. Out of nowhere, she begrudgingly took off the charge after having told us she had no way of doing so, clearly meaning that was a lie in the first place. My complaint is how this was handled. And WHY it was handled like this! The manager had a sh*tty look on her face and we were treated like we were trying to get out of paying or something when we were IN the window of time. Very agitating experience and rude, I'm in customer service and would never talk to someone like that, lie to them or try and swindle another days charge for no reason.Reviewed 14 Apr. 2016

Pros:The staff, pick-up and drop off were great. The interior of the vehicle was clean, however, this vehicle came from California and it reeked of marijuana HORRIBLY!!! We had to purchase vent fresheners to help alleviate the smell. It was honestly almost unbearable, we actually tried to exchange the vehicle with other Hertz dealers and were told there was nothing available. We called and filed a formal complaint with Heidi at the Hertz at Midway Airport and asked for a credit and was told they could issue us a voucher for future rental. I do not believe we will rent from Hertz again in the future. I cannot believe they allowed that vehicle to be in their fleet honestly.Cons:Have better QC.Reviewed 15 Mar. 2021

Pros:Staff was rude. Would not let me rent with a debit card unless I had round trip tickets. Told them I wasn’t flying. I was driving across country. Refused to rent to me and I was stranded in Chicago.Cons:Accept debit cards. I wanted to give them $600 of my hard earned cash and wasn’t good enough for them. I don’t use credit cards.
