Bad service during pick-up.Pros:Car was very comfortable, reliable, and gas efficient.Cons:The front desk coordinator ended up sending me to the wrong lot to pick up my car, even when I went back to him to confirm the location since I couldn't find my car the first time he sent me there. He even seemed impatient with me when I went back to ask him where to go. Once I got in the wrong car, I was told by the gate staff that I couldn't take this car, and to bring it back and ask them where I should go for the correct car. This wasted 20 minutes of my very rushed and tight-run morning, all because some idiot front desk clerk was too prideful to be open to the fact that he sent me to the wrong place initially.Reviewed 28 May 2019

Pros:It was very easy to book, I read that there would be a free-cancellation but I missed my appointment due to having to company my younger sister to the ER. I called the rental location & told them I wasn’t gonna make it at all & they Cancelled the reservation & I asked if I’d be refunded the $30. They said they didn’t charge me but on my bank statement I was chargedReviewed 3 Aug. 2020

What a rip off.Cons:I booked my car rental through Kayak and expected to pay a total of $288 for the entire rental + renters insurance. When I got to the Thrifty rental location in San Diego the employee that I talked to at the checkout there were several things that 1. First the employee told me that the rentals insurance that I had purchased through Kayak did not protect me against ANYTHING. I mentioned that I had collision insurance through my own provider, however she STRONGLY suggested that I get their insurance and cancel the insurance I had through Kayak. I tried to have her explain to me what the difference was ---- to which I never received a reply. 2. After chatting with the employee for about 10 minutes deciphering the issues with the insurance I finally just gave up (she would not let the insurance go) and told her that I would get the liability insurance ONLY. --- which was a whole whopping $280! -- about $130 more than what I had purchased through Kayak. 3. I then asked her how I could cancel the insurance that I had already bought and she told me that I had to figure it out with Kayak (understandable) but she seemed very annoyed and rude at this point. 4. Finally we got past the insurance and moved on to the gas fill up. She then proceeded to try to goad me into filling up through Thrifty -- to which I replied "no thank you." I was then met with a 5 minute lecture on how she strongly suggests to get gas through them and how I was now liable. I understand that it needs to be said but all of this could have been said in 1 concise sentence. Not a guilt tripping lecture. 5. Finally the employee printed off my expected bill for the 2 weeks that I would be having the car which came out to $500 --- about $250 more than what I was expecting. At that point I was so tired of defending my choices to her that I just accepted it and left. I will NOT be booking through Thrifty again.Reviewed 30 Jan. 2017

KAYAK and Thrift are not Synced UpPros:NothingCons:Thrifty Car Rental had a very hard time finding my reservation. The style of car I rented was nothing like the current description of available cars, completely different. Thrifty said that third part reservations are not good. I will not use KAYAK again. I tried it....did not like it. No communication between KAYAK and Thrifty, car selection on KAYAK was very outdated....!!!!!!!!!! The car handled horribly on the road, apparently out of alignment or wheels were not balanced. Car was also dirty. All around bad experienceReviewed 2 May 2016

Terrible customer service and dishonest workersPros:I liked being able to choose my car within a specified class.Cons:The staff at check in was extremely hum drum and was reluctant to provide any additional information. They also were very slow and asked very personal questions that did not pertain to the rental. Upon dropping off the car we were a little late for are next mode of transportation I asked if we could get a quick receipt so we could hustle. The man taking the cars was rude, and said no i needed to wait but as long as I put gas it it there were as no issue but I wouldn't be able to dispute any damage. Since there was no damaage to the vehicle I agreed. I showed him the receipt for the gas and he said fine and we ran to catch our train. An hour later I got an email and he charged us for cleaning, gas and other service fees!!! Extremely dishonest because I wasn't not there and he could do it. Will never rent from them again.Reviewed 10 Jul. 2017

Very Happy with ExperiencePros:The shuttle to the rental car center was easy. I really like that there are no longer separate shuttles for each of the companies. The check-in was quick and easy. The clerk did not try to push the insurance on me. I was given clear instructions on where to go to select my car. The signage was clear. I had plenty of cars to choose from in the full-size category. Check-out was simple and the girl who checked me out readily gave me directions to the 5 though as I exited I realized that the signage is really very well done and I did not need the directions. I enjoyed the car very, very much. My return as well as the return trip to the airport on the shuttle were quick and easy.Cons:The car may have been smoked in, but I could never really be sure.Reviewed 10 Nov. 2016

Customer service terriblePros:At least car was cleanCons:It was busy inside at the kiosk so a lady brought a number of groups downstairs right to where cars are. She said the lady down there could help is. We were first in line. When went up to desk, girl said why are you here? I explained that the lady indside sent us here. She said no, go back. So had to go back only to get sent back down again. Then the lady walked down with us this time and told the girl to check us in here as it was too busy inside. The girl then seemed very put out and was quite rude. Then there was an issue with my online booking which was my fault, but it only seemed to irritate her more. Then when finally got to car I was renting, it was not full of fuel. So has to go sort this out with the guy at gate. Very frustrating. Just a bad experience.Reviewed 22 Jun. 2017

Pros:Car was fine and pick up was fineCons:Thrifty demands a receipt from you for gas from a place within 10 miles of the drop off; and if you don't have it they charge you $9.99 per gallon for at least 1.5 gallons and untruthfully report that the tank was only 7/8 full. Even when their representative verified that the fuel gauge needle was completely above the full mark when I returned the car they did this. Also I had rented the car for 4 days. When I tried to extend the rental from 4 days to 5 days they almost tripled the rate for 4 days so I droved back to San Diego to rent another car from another company for a fair rate. Thrifty/Dollar in San Diego (at least the airport location) is extorting money from customers.Reviewed 27 Mar. 2017
