The pick up took quite a while. It was just difficult getting to the lot. I got instructions in email and then different instructions from employees. Then getting to the lot took about an hour of waiting and riding in a bus then a van….. I guess that’s what I get for going cheap!Reviewed 2 Apr 2026

Please ask about insurance options because they do not tell you. When I checked in they asked if I would like the insurance option to cover the other car or the hire car. I said I would like the insurance to cover the hire car. So it was $55 per day which I am ok with. I clipped the mirrors of the hire car so when I got back to drop it off they charged me $us1000. I said I thought I paid for the car to be covered and then she says no that’s the $75 cover option. I said I’m sure I would have paid $20 extra per day to forego the excess. Anyways nothing I can do about it now but please ask for ALL of the coverage options. For your own good, in LA you’re bound to have an accident.Reviewed 7 Mar 2026

Surprised with a after hours charge as I was returning the car after they closed which was at no time listed or advised when I was booking the car.Reviewed 19 Jan 2026

Got scammed into being forced to use their liability insurance even though I had my own, which triples the booking price. Technically against California law, but they know no one will pursue it. They know you’ll have to take a shuttle elsewhere and spend hours rebooking a car, and they just won’t give you the car unless you pay for it.Reviewed 14 Dec 2025

Worst rental car experience I’ve ever had. They should be taken off of kayak. Car was a mess. People were rude. Nothing positive about the experience. Tried to force me into using their insurance even though I have insurance. Do not rent from here.Reviewed 30 Nov 2025

Flight from Fiji was delayed. By the time we went through customs and picked up bags and made it to the off site for car rental we were informed that I reservation was canceled after 2 hrs of pick up time. We were stranded in airport.Reviewed 28 Nov 2025

Didn’t appreciate the surprise obligatory car insurance of 30$/day, for minimum coverage. My 120$ rental became 330$+taxes! GrrrrrrrrrReviewed 4 Nov 2025

Terrible experience money took out my account a week ahead of time day of rental never received a rental having to dispute with my credit card company to try to retrieve my money back. The lady had a bad attitude at the rental car place and make every excuse to not rent the car. I want my money back..Reviewed 1 Nov 2025

1. It takes TWO shuttles to get to the rental location. So you wait twice. 2. The shuttle drops you off in the street and you need to walk to the rental office. 3. There's no ramp, so you need to drag your suitcases up the stairs. 4. The questions asked are like no other rental agreement I’ve ever got. Ever. They didn’t accept my declining of their insurance until I showed my insurance card, and told them my deductible and my insurance type. I had to call my agent for that. 5. They messed up the order and had to re do it. Given the number of initials and signatures they require it’s a lengthy process. 6. While they had staff walking around, only one person was caring for the renters. It’s a long wait. 7. When returning the car, you wait for the shuttle in the street. Never again.Reviewed 1 July 2025

Not surprising, I know, but it was worse than I’ve had in the last 10 years. I feel like rental companies used to find ways tack on fees but not so much in recent years. At Economy in LA, it’s hard yo get there. Not completely Economy’s fault, but you have to find a bus (which is totally confusing cause the bus that goes to rental cars isn’t it), to a lot to get a shuttle. When you get there, they have no bathroom, they don’t accept the insurance you paid for with your booking, and their deposit is $500 which takes weeks to get back after. Staff were nice though. Cars as clean and ready.Reviewed 10 Apr 2025

They are a rip off. They don’t tell you that they don’t accept Canadian insurance nor credit card insurance. They tried to charge me over $50 per day for their insurance, which more than doubled the cost. Luckily I found a nearby competitor to treat me like an important customer and solve my problems rather than create them upon arriving in LA for a family vacation. I will never use Economy Car Rental again and I will be sure to spread the message.Reviewed 26 Mar 2025
