It was a fantastic experience - they first gave me a free upgrade, but wasn't the car I wanted, so they went to another shop to get what I needed. Later, I needed to extend my booking and they responded at 7am! No hassle, and everything was taken care of.

After arriving at the facility with a Lyft for our pre booked rental we then had the hassle that due to fact they have now only have chip pin payment and my chip was not working on my credit card and company policy is they won’t accept debit card, nor would they let anyone in the party pay the “refundable deposit” they just say there with blank looks on their faces saying there was nothing they could do, we were about to drive from NY to Florida, so luckily for us Budget was only a few blocks away and they as always went out of their way to help us get on our 10 day road trip ! Nice to see good old American Customer Service is still alive at Budget as Alamo sucks with theirs!!

Pros:

Car was ready on time and was pretty clean. Price was good.

Cons:

The pick-up location said not to worry about preexisting scuffs or scratches on the car because they were so small, but the drop-off location tried to pin those marks on me. Fortunately, I took a video of the car when I picked it up, proving the marks were already there. The drop-off location dropped the issue right away after seeing the video.

Cons:

NY location was a bit understaffed so there was a wait to pick up your vehicle, but they could not have been nicer and apologized for the wait.

Cons:

Provide more gas in vehicle upon pick up! Less than 1/8 of a tank of gas was in the car.

We waited over 3 hours for our car rental because the facility (and at least 3 other facilities surrounding it) did not have cars for at least 15-20 people who were ahead of us. Because of this significant delay, we missed a wedding ceremony and cannot get this experience back. Management and their computer system need a revamp to ensure there are enough cars for the reservations made because having 15-20 different groups wait more than even just 30 minutes for their car agreement is extremely poor business and unprofessional. The staff themselves were nice and it's not their fault. The facility was clean with a working bathroom.

The car broke down 45 minutes out of the city on an entry ramp to a freeway. The police towed the car after working with Hertz emergency service. They had no other cars and the 55th Street location would not answer the phone the entire weekend. It cost me several hundred dollars in Ubers and ruined my weekend. I had to go into the office in person and called the phone while he sat there and didn’t answer it. I’ve never had such base service in my life. I’ve requested reimbursement but they have not yet responded.

The drop off was not 24 hours, but the staff was pleasant

Cons:

We weren't told that an EZPass wouldn't ultimately be needed. I should have asked initially, but it was never prompted and we worried about using cash at every toll throughout our travel. When dropping off it was explained that it was not really needed anymore, but a little more customer assistance with add ons (or the fact that something is not needed) could be helpful. Maybe it's common knowledge, but I would have liked a little more info.

I had a terrible experience with Dollar. Complete bait and switch. I showed up to pick up my rental. I was told they didn't have any cars and I can wait three hours or pay three times as much for an upgrade! When I tried to argue, he said he would just give the car to someone else

they did not have any cars at all despite the reservation ….that is not acceptable - many people were left without cars for their trips i will never use village again i had to take my business off kayak and go to enterprise directly but had to pay $100 for an Uber to get my dog to the airport to get the car

The staff was super helpful and friendly. One of the best experiences I've had picking up a car in NYC.

Cons:

I wish the tank was full when I picked it up. It's a bit more complex to return a tank at 5/8 than to return one that is full.
