Getting my receipt after dropping of the car took days and multiple calls when they told me it would happen within 24 hours. I still don't see the final charges on my credit card.

The car could've been cleaner. The inside had sand on the seats and floor. The cars rims were covered in mud and sand.. overall the car served it's purpose but it could've been cleaner.

Cons:

Very upset to book a reservation through Kayak for 5PM pickup, only to arrive at the location at 5:15 and find it closed. Kayak needs to put in a pop up flag about operating hours when booking. Called customer service and while the woman was very nice on the phone, she could not find a single replacement car available in all of Manhattan or JFK, nor would they allow me to pick up my reserved car the following morning because it had already been released back into inventory and taken by someone else. They ended up cancelling my reservation and I was stuck without a car and ended up having to pay double with another agency.

Pros:

Pickup and drop off was very efficient and quick. Staff was friendly and was very hassle free. They put us in an SUV for the same price and it ended up allowing us to take more stuff on our trip than we originally planned.

Cons:

Honestly in this case, I'm not sure. The price can always be better but felt we got a pretty good deal in this case too.

We were not able to rent a car for 3 hours. Made 3 different reservation as they complained about payment methods, then charged double of the cost of the reservation for unknown reasons. I will definitely seek NY legal claim against Hertz. They made my family’s trip a night mare. We finally got a car through another well known rental company who took 5 mins, no issues. Extremely dissatisfied to say the least.

Car exterior was filthy and had only 1/8 tank of fuel. Return was confusing. When I dropped off the car exactly where it was picked up, I was told to move it up to an alternate location, less than 50’ away, under threat of being charged for abandonment.

Pros:

Nothing good about this experience

Cons:

Waited in line for 45 minutes only to have a woman yell out to everyone in line that they were out of cars and would not be honoring reservations made less than 2 days in advance. Ended up having to take an Uber 2 hours away for much more money. I don’t recommend hertz at all

They tried to give me an electric vehicle. I was making a 5.5 hour drive and was not prepared for the logistics of a EV (where to find reliable list of locations for chargers, etc) and therefore was forced to pay to 'upgrade' because they had no other cars in the class I purchased. That's their problem, not mine, but i was forced to pay anyway.

My reservation was for 3pm. I arrived a little after 3 and the rental location was closed. Nowhere on the app or in the reservation process was it made clear that the location closed at 3. I tried to make another reservation somewhere, but the Kayak app showed no cars available anywhere. Literally none. Very, very disappointed in the whole experience. And I’d like a refund of the $22 pre-paid in insurance for a car I never got.
