Pros:Quality of the carsCons:Time for waiting to be attended at the pickup/returns area. The price structure for the insurance where you have to leave 2000 on deposit on the carReviewed 19 Mar. 2017

Fraudulent price scamsCons:I was very upset that Kayak advertised the rental as being $8. We reserved the car at this price, and arrived in Cancun to be surprised with a whopping amount of insurance fees which amounted to over $400. If we refused the insurance and used our credit card's insurance for the car, then we had to pay $1300.00 to the rental car company, which obviously made no sense. Absolutely infuriating to be surprised with this tremendous rate differencce, and found ourselves in a position of helplessness last minute. Would never rent again here.Reviewed 31 Mar. 2017

Pros:Easy and quick drop offCons:The counter person tried to bully me into buying the extra insurance. He said that Mexico required this but according to Mexican law, the rental car companies have to include the basic insurance in the base rental price and contract. Even after I told him this (which he was surprised I knew) and that my credit card has worldwide travel coverage (I had a letter of coverage from my credit card company) he still tried to scare me into getting extra insurance. When I finally got the car, the attendant didn't want to write on the assessment sheet that the car had a large scrape on the bumper. He finally made a mark but it was barely a pinpoint mark so I asked him if he would circle it but he refused. After giving me the keys he then flat out asked for a tip which I thought was so rude. Who does that? I will hesitate before renting from Thrifty again even if its less expensive than another rental company. Its just not worth the hassle. Also the car had manual windows and locks and the stereo didn't work. Very disappointing.Reviewed 13 Jan. 2017

Cons:Cancun. MX. They wanted to charge a $3000 deposit unless I bought their insurance. Then it would have been $300 deposit. I had previously called Thrifty and was told there was no insurance requirement but wasn't told about the deposit. I didn't rent the car.Reviewed 25 Dec. 2016

Terrible pick-upPros:Car was clean and in decent shapeCons:Felt like a criminal that I took the minimum SLE insurance mandated by Mexican State Gov't even though I'm a VISA Infinite Member and have rented cars in Mexico for 20 years. If I hadn't thoroughly went through vehicle before picking up they would have gotten me on about 7 previous dings/dents.Reviewed 25 Nov. 2016

Insurance is a rip offPros:The daily rate was great so I booked it but it turned out to be a bait and switch. The insurance was 24 times the daily rate . I had to take it since it was Mexico and had no other choice. But this is a rip off by Thrifty. We should have a fair rate for insurance.Reviewed 29 Dec. 2016

Manager tried to shake me down for $40Pros:NothingCons:The manager at the Thrifty rental office at the Cancun Airport was a con artist. They tried to shake me down for $40 to buff out a scratch on the bottom of front spoiler that was not even noticeable that I did not do. I will never rent from Thrifty again, RobReviewed 25 Aug. 2016
