Flight from Hong Kong to Hobart

FAQs - booking Tasmania flights

  • Which Australian airports are convenient for transiting from Hong Kong to Tasmania?

Although flights to both Hobart and Launceston are available from all major Australian airports, the frequency and convenience of flights do vary slightly. The obvious choices are all on the eastern coast, mainly Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. Melbourne is closer but, although a generally convenient choice, be aware that if you are flying Jetstar, you will need to exit Terminal 1 and get yourself to Terminal 4. If you choose Sydney, you will also have to change terminals, which is generally easy enough but you should plan for it.

  • What are my transportation options from Hobart Airport?

While there is a bus service operating between Hobart Airport (HBA) and the city, it is neither fast nor frequent. You are advised to get a taxi from one of the ranks outside the terminal or arrange a private transfer before your arrival.

  • How can I get from Launceston Airport to the city?

Launceston Airport (LST) is served by the 796 bus line but availability can be an issue. Taxis are a popular option and, depending on the distance involved, may not cost much more than the bus. Arranging for a private transfer before arrival is, of course, the more expensive option; although, it can certainly provide great ease. Some hotels offer a low-priced or complimentary airport shuttle on request, so it's a good idea to check with any hotel you intend to stay with if they offer these services.

  • How can I fly to Tasmania from Hong Kong with a single airline?

There are no direct flights between Hong Kong and Australia and all flights will involve a layover in another Australian or New Zealand airport. If you fly with Qantas, Virgin or Air New Zealand, you can fly from Hong Kong to Tasmania without having to change carriers.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Hong Kong to Tasmania?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Hong Kong to Tasmania.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Hong Kong to Tasmania?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Hong Kong to Tasmania is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Hong Kong to Tasmania?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Hong Kong to Tasmania with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Hong Kong to Tasmania?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from Hong Kong to Tasmania up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Tasmania

  • As there are no direct flights from Hong Kong to Tasmania, you will need to transit through another Australian airport. The faster flights are from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (MEL), and these can usually get you to Launceston or Hobart in under 1 hour.
  • If you are intending to explore Southern Tasmania, it makes sense to fly into the state capital, Hobart. If you are mainly interested in the northern part of the island, you will find it more convenient to fly into Launceston.
  • To explore all of Tasmania, flying to the state capital of Hobart is a wise option, as it is relatively easy to explore the state from there and many of the island's main attractions are in or around the city.
  • If you are tired of flying after taking a long flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne, you might also consider taking the Spirit of Tasmania ferry to Devonport. This is a good option if you would like to take your time and explore the state.
  • For flights to Tasmania transiting through Melbourne, don't forget that there are three domestic terminals. If you are flying with Jetstar, you will need to walk to Terminal 4 or take one of the airport shuttles. All the other terminals can be accessed without having to leave the main airport building.

It was ok, the additional baggage charges were a bit excessive given winter is a time for skiing. To have to pay $600 extra for skis was tantamount to robbery. Airlines should consider sporting goods as baggage. Likewise, they should consider increasing the number of bags allowed on international flights to known ski destinations.

Flight was canceled. I was not alerted. It was only kayak that alerted me

Flight was 2.5 hours late leaving. We spent 50 minutes of that sitting on the plane with no explanation. They did reduce the time in the air so we arrived a little less late which was something. The cheese and crackers were okay but the wine was terrible.

Couldn't access entertainment on app as said in an email

Excellent as always, I won't fly to Australia, and back to the US on any other airline. The flight crew is always top notch, and have a way to make one feel extra special. Thank you for your service, I would rate Qantas Airways a 10+.

After already paying for excess luggage prior to flight, i was advised AT check in that i had to pay $816 or forfeit my flight! The lady at the counter was SO rude and had already started offboarding me when i said i would pay it after asking her three times for the exact amount! Have lodged a formal complaint yet heard nothing. Will not ever travel via Qantas again

A few more inches of legroom is all i ask

One of the best Qantas business flights I've had. Quality product

Business class points redemption - good value for points paid, dubious value if out of your own pocket, domestic class business product okay for this length of flight. The flight left and arrived on time, crew were good, aircraft was a bit old and tired, but still miles ahead of their competitors in Virgin and Jetstar.

Airline running better than post Covid, proper boarding process now implemented, some aircraft feeling a bit old and tired, crew fine, online experience better.
