FAQs - booking Scotland flights

  • What visa do Australian citizens need to visit Scotland?

Australians do not need any visa to visit anywhere in the UK and may stay in the UK visa-free for a maximum period of up to six months. Visitors to the UK are not permitted to seek employment or overstay their permitted six-month residency allowance.

  • Which terminal at Brisbane Airport has flights to Scotland?

There are only two terminals at Brisbane Airport (BNE); one serves domestic flights and the other serves international arrivals and departures. All flights to Scotland will, of course, depart through the international terminal. Fortunately, there are frequent shuttle buses between the two terminals and travelling the roughly 4 km between them is no problem.

  • Which airlines offer fast and direct flights from Brisbane to Scotland?

There are no direct flights from Brisbane to Scotland but Emirates Airlines offers near-direct flights to Glasgow, with only a brief layover in Dubai and a total journey taking less than 24 hours. British Airways offers almost the same flight to Edinburgh, also with a brief layover in Dubai and also presenting a total journey of less than 24 hours. The majority of flight options, however, involve two or more layovers and generally take at least 24 hours or longer, depending on the length of the scheduled layovers.

  • Which airports in Scotland can I fly to from Brisbane?

Scotland has around five international airports and it is possible to fly to all of them from Brisbane, although not directly. You can choose Edinburgh, Glasgow International, Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), Aberdeen (ABZ) or Inverness Airport based on your intended destination in Scotland or on convenience, flight durations, arrival times and price. With Glasgow and Edinburgh being busier, the other airports may be quieter and offer fewer flights and services.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Brisbane to Scotland?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Brisbane to Scotland.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Brisbane to Scotland?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Brisbane to Scotland is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Brisbane to Scotland?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Brisbane to Scotland with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Brisbane to Scotland?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from Brisbane to Scotland up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Scotland

  • There are several destinations in Scotland you can fly to from Brisbane, though none are direct. Depending on the airlines you book with, Edinburgh is often a slightly cheaper destination than Glasgow, the other main airport in Scotland.
  • A great advantage of flying to Scotland is that the country is quite small and transport is quite convenient, which means that you can fly to any of the major airports and be able to travel around the country with minimal difficulty. This gives you greater flexibility in choosing which airport to fly to.
  • Although Glasgow is Scotland's larger airport, Edinburgh is generally busier and serves a larger volume of flights. The smaller size of Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is compensated for by its efficiency; it is very easy to navigate and easy to access, making it a good option when travelling from Brisbane.
  • Both Edinburgh and Glasgow Airport (GLA) are well connected to public transport lines, and it is very easy to use buses and trains to get to locations in the city and beyond. Edinburgh also has an excellent tram line connecting the airport directly to major sites in the city centre. Either airport is a convenient destination for travellers from Brisbane.
  • Although it serves fewer airlines, if you wish to explore the Highlands, Inverness (INV) is a great airport to fly into. Especially if you are flying from Brisbane via the Netherlands or France, this can be a good option.

Very bad service and food variety will never come back again

Everything was perfect. Staff were informative and professional and flight boarding, flying and de-embarking was smooth. I would certainly travel with Emirates again.

My baby was with me it was really good experience with emirates

Fantastic as ever. Great staff super catering and excellent service.

Flight and entertainment great. Food needs to be improved, only one choice on the menu. Staff worked well throughout.

The crew were absolutely fantastic. They actively asked if passengers wanted refills and if they were comfortable. I was extremely impressed.

Child’s meal was great along with other nice touches for kids.

It was delayed for 2 hrs. Flight attendants were not attentive.

We boarded but due to a technical issue we spent 4.5hrs on the ground waiting for the issue to be resolved

Crew were excellent and the bar service and chat fantastic. Cheese board delicious. Amenity kit good, very disappointing not getting pyjamas on this leg of the flight and needed to reuse from earlier flight.

There were no food or entertainment on this short flight. Friendly staff even before getting on the flight. The seats were snug but it was quick flight

Good flight. On time. No problems. Plane was clean. Service was as you would expect. However nothing special, just a good flight.

Very friendly staff. No food service and no entertainment. Only 1hr 20min flight

High fees for excess checked baggage and somehow ridiculous rules for carry on bags.

Flight was late, food and drink an extra charge, my carry on is five rows behind me, and the seats are too narrow. Don’t ask me to be happy about it

I bought flights in August and there wasn’t a flight in the system

Our 6.30am flight was boarded then cancelled to fly at 10.55am . We were flying to Brisbane to attend a funeral at 12 noon an hour away . This means missing the funeral due to unreliability of Virgin . Unimpressed !!

It was with Link Airways and the Saab 340 jet was noisy and little comfort.

They didn’t sent my luggage I got it 24 hours later

Plane was late and they wouldn’t check our bags through to Tokyo

Loved the food and beverages available, spacious economy class, excellent entertainment

Very good overall. Highly recommend for all flying to Australia

Helpful staff when I felt unwell. Qantas need to have an audio/music channel so you can listen to various music/.artists

We had bulkhead seats in a A380 in the upper deck in seats 31 D and E. Storage was very limited other than in overhead bin - which is not within reach when in seat. Yet paying same price as others in premium economy who have a lot more storage within arm’s reach. Seems very unfair.

Good check in and helpful staff. Delayed for 1 hour. Took about 45 Mins to get baggage’s at DFW . Food was average ( Hindu meal ) . Overall it was good experience

My experience was great overall. Tanya was particularly friendly and helpful the entire trip. I was very pleased with her customer service skills. The plane was an older aircraft but the entire way was comfortable with barely any turbulence at all. Qantas should speed up its fleet renovation. Totally recommend using this airline.

When I originally booked this flight, I was expecting to travel on Qantas. When the itinerary changed and the long-haul segment was operated by American Airlines, we were disappointed but remained open-minded. Unfortunately, the overall service experience fell far short of expectations. This was a long-haul international flight. Getting up periodically to use the restroom or stretch is inevitable, especially on flights of this duration. However, each time we stood up, we felt as though we were inconveniencing the crew. The tone and body language often suggested that we were in the way or disrupting something simply by moving about the cabin. As a result, I avoided getting up as often as I needed to and was physically very sore upon arrival. Meal service was similarly impersonal. The options were presented in single words “beef or veggie,” “pasta or beef” without any description of what was actually being served. There was little engagement or courtesy beyond that. Even simple expressions of gratitude were often not acknowledged. I am accustomed to no-frills travel and do not expect luxury. What was disappointing was not the absence of extras, but the absence of basic warmth and professionalism. On a long-haul international flight, small moments of courtesy and humanity make a significant difference. In this case, the experience felt transactional and dismissive rather than welcoming. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as there is a meaningful difference between efficient service and indifferent service.

Qantas is always subpar beyond comfy chairs for a domestic flight

an hour late, then had to disembark on back stairs and take 4 flights up to get to main airport. No warning, and difficulty for those with canes and poor knees.

Business seats not as comfortable or private as most competitors (e.g. Qantas was outstanding), and movie selection was much more limited than Qantas or United has been recently

Very poor No information given to why we turned around.. No one at airport to help

When we checked in at the Siem Reap Airport in Cambodia, we were only given three boarding passes and told that we would have to check in with American when we arrived in Boston. This was a source of stress for us. After we landed in Boston, we had a long passage from Terminal E to Terminal B (American Airline ticketing counter). Because the electronic ticketing kiosks for check-in would not recognize our Confirmation Code, we had to wait for an hour in a long line where only two AA reps were taking care of Special Services passengers. In many years of both business and recreational travel, I have never had this experience. I would expect more from AA being in partnership with other airlines to do a better job with this.

In the business class it was everything wonderful. However in the economy is a hell. BTW. When I asked to search for tickets, I ordered business and I was offered options with economy, that was not clear in the order, so I could've acted faster to rectify it.

Nice airline. I was in a really weird seat which had extra leg room, but no basket or stowage. And the people next to me were pretty noisy during the flight, so it was hard to rest. I wish staff came around to pick up trash more often as I had no where to put it except my lap or the floor.

It was very good. It was a long flight and being a tight with little leg room.

Friendly and discreet staff. Could have done with a few more offers of water/snacks overnight. Movie and tv selection notably poor. Seats not especially comfortable

Crew and food was good, ok leg room if you don’t have a big box under the seat. And the seats are so narrow (I’m only 70kg), will consider an alternate airline next time

The flight was delayed and one member of the crew was a bit rude. But apart from that all good.

My baggage is lost. Flight cancelled, Rebooked ticket through long routes. Mental stress, emotional hurt

My flight was delayed. I was rebooked twice and even the second flight that was additional connection in London was delayed too, so I ended up spending more than 24 hours flying between four different countries and to be honest I’m not sure whether I ever want to use this airline again. My luggage is still delete. It’s been more than 48 hours now so to be honest, I’m not even sure how to describe the level of frustration I have.

Boarding was orderly, pilot and flight attendants were nice, entertainment options were good, and low sodium meals were quite tasty.

The whole experience was excellent, O can say out from Miami the best airline to travel with for any European destination. Since the ground staff to the inflight crew attention was great, service on board 10 of 10. Finally the 380 is very confortable and nice to travel.

Cramped seating but standard in all smaller aircrafts today no matter what airlines. Crew very helpful, friendly & attentive so makes up for that.

All crew except 1 were excellent. When I asked assistance with business class seat conversion to a bed (not being familiar as never used before but have numerous times with other airlines) crew member helped very reluctantly. I should have told her that business class seat conversion is totally different in each airline such as Delta, New Zealand Air and United. Sorry it was my 1st time with America Airlines. Now I know, I won't bother asking assistance in future.

I had a mixed experience on this flight. The plane itself was comfortable, the flight was smooth, and the entertainment selection was excellent with plenty of movie options. However, the service fell short. I had an entire row to myself and fell asleep with a blanket over me. A flight attendant, Karleigh, woke me up to see if I had my seatbelt on, which felt unnecessary given the situation. Meanwhile, trash sat uncollected on the tray at the end of the row and was never picked up. During the second meal service, no one woke me up, and when I used the call button multiple times, there was no response. I eventually had to walk to the back to ask for assistance. There was also a long stretch without snacks, and when I requested something savory, I was dropped off sweet options, which wasn’t ideal. Overall, while the flight itself was comfortable, the lack of attentiveness and responsiveness from the crew made the experience disappointing.

The seats in Premier Economy were very comfortable. The food was better than average. The way British Airways handled our seating was atrocious.

The flight attendant does not pay attention to my "call" button more than 3 times when I need a drink.

Flight delayed, connection was not at gate listed and so missed, staff were rude at Heathrow, phone tree stupid and difficult, took me 21 actual hours to reach my destination. Almost lost my hotel reservation after walking in a strange city alone after midnight because they would not put me up in a hotel at sfo or heathrow. I will never fly BA again and will tell all people and Instagram followers never to fly BA.

British Airays fails to enforce its own guidelines regarding carry on size limits. There were MANY passengers with full suitcases stuffing them into the overhead compartments leaving no space for others, like me, who adhere to the posted sizes. I had to put my carryone bag into my foot space, in additon to my carryon personal item, leaving me cramped for a seven hour flight. I was in physical pain, and I attribute this entirely to staff unwilling to enforce limits. The infotainment system was horrible. the touchscreens did dot work correctly, and there was no information on system operation. I am 77 years old, and a lifelong movie-goer. I recognized ONE movie (and not much better TV shows). It seems that BA saves royalty money by limiting its move and TV selection to absolute rubbish. The FlightAware program is the worst informationsystm I have ever seen, it is completely worthless. I pay attention to the safety briefings...in the event of an emergency, one is supposed to assume the "brace" position, except the seats are so close together, front to back, that it is not possible to assume the position without striking the seat in front of you. at age 77, and a lifelong traveler, this is the worst flight experience I have ever had, and I will never fly British Airways again

Overall ok. Best part has always been the sundae dessert.
