Top tips for finding a cheap flight out of Portland

  • Morning departure is around 10% cheaper than an evening flight, on average*.
  • For somebody that gets stressed about airline travel, one of the great things about Portland International Airport is that they have a dog therapy program. This is a group of about 20 well-trained dogs that run through the terminal buildings looking for stressed-out passengers in the hopes of calming their nerves a bit.
  • If you're going to be driving yourself to the Portland International Airport before your flight the airport offers several parking options. Their short-term parking is adjacent to the terminal and costs around $27 a day while their long-term parking costs around $12 a day. Their economy parking lot costs around $12 a day and offers shuttle service to the terminal that can get you there in around 7min.
  • If somebody will be dropping you off at the airport before your flight all they need to do is follow the signage to the designated drop-off areas that have a location in front of the terminal buildings on both the upper and lower-level roadways. Drivers may only unload their passengers and their baggage but may not park for any amount of time.
  • If you're somebody that likes to travel light and you are going to be riding your bicycle to the airport, there are several secure locations to lock your bike while you were gone. There are bike racks at both the north and south end of the terminal building. The south rack is right next to the loading platform for the Trimet light rail system.
  • If you're looking for a way to pass the time before your flight from Portland International Airport head over to Concourse C and the Hollywood Theater. This theater is a great way to spend some time watching short films that tell stories specifically about the Pacific Northwest. There is no charge to use the theater.

I’ve had a couple flights this week on United that were delayed by an hour or more

Flight was delayed 2.5 hours - a big deal on an overnight when you plan to sleep.

I feel like they have upgraded the app since I last flew United and I found it to be super helpful. I had stopped flying United unless absolutely necessary and my experience on this trip indicates they have been working hard to improve their services.

Surprisingly easy! I was hesitant to try this, but the cost swayed me. I actually felt like I had less stress than all the taxiing and possible delays that occur with short regional flights where you spend less time in the air than getting to and from the plane..

This flight was delayed multiple times and eventually canceled around 2-3ish. Original take off time was around 10:30am. By 3, there were no other options out of Houston, so stuck in Houston for from 3pm - 11am the next day.

Should have video screens Plane audio was poor and without wired connection hard to understand crew. Should serve more than just cups of water and pretzels on six hour flight. Did not see crew rest of flight. Fix charging sockets to retain charging blocks.

I paid $380 for my one-way ticket from California to Minnesota. The fair did not include online check-in. I received instructions from their app to check in at a kiosk. At the kiosk, the boarding pass would not print until an actual person came to verify that I had a personal item and not a carry-on item, On the plane, the person next to me was drunk and allowed to continue to order alcohol. United is garbage I’d rather fly spirit.

The plane was dirty and the in seat air wasn't blowing as planes usually do.

Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept.

Do not like the feeling of being in the basic economy. Everyone should feel good no matter what.

My second flight ended up being through United and it was fine. Again, just frustrating that it was so late.

My experience was pretty frustrating because the first leg of my flight on United (though booked through Air Canada) was delayed causing me to miss my connecting flight on Air Canada. This could have been an easy solve as there was a direct flight later that morning via Air Canada that they easily could have put me on which would have only gotten me to my destination 2 1/2 hours later but because United and Air Canada don’t seem to have good communication they gave me the run around both telling me to talk with the other which I did three times to no avail. I ended up taking the delayed flight and getting on a new connecting flight which ended up getting me to my destination 6 hours later and I missed the event I was planning to go to this evening.

Everything went smoothly and as expected. We were on time and one flight arrived early.

First time flying Air Canada and the trip was very pleasant! They did a great job getting us out of Toronto and into Rome (early!) For an international flight it was very enjoyable.

This is not a Business Class equipped airplane and even the crew apologize before take over BUT BUT Air Canada charged full business class fare

All was good, except our baggage was lost for most of a day. We are thankful that it was found quickly and delivered to our hotel. Rouge was fine outside of that problem.

You do not have a space for flight cancelled. BUT!!! Air Canada handled it great. Was booked on another airline for the next day. The original flight was booked solid. But he precheck by the maintenance found a mechanical problem and the plane was not safe to fly. It was an inconvenience to have to wait until next day but I would rather arrive safely.

Very good other than we have to wait for one crew and we’re delayed and the pilot and his co- pilot has to make a difference to be right on time arrival. Disappointed about no food service also.

I had written all my complaints on my trip from Grand Junction to Denver so I will repeat it here! I was absolutely appalled that I had to pay for a regular seat that I choose 24 hrs before boarding! Also I checked my large bag which I had to pay for as well, and by the time I boarded all the room in the bins were gone so also had to check that one. I noticed people pulling out oversized suitcases, bigger than the measurements stated for carry on, and also large pack packs stuffed full! So these people were taking up 2 or 3 spaces that the rest of us should have been able to use but couldn’t! NoTV on the flight! Thankfully I had downloaded the United Airlines app and was able to watch movies on my phone. Don’t remember the last time I flew in a plane with no movie screens!

I was appalled to have to pay for just a regular seat when I went to book 24 hrs before my flight! Because it was only an hour flight I didn’t choose a seat from Grand Junction to Denver, but I did for Toronto and had to pay just to choose a regular available seat! In my 60+ years of flying this was the first time I have heard of this. Also, allowing people to bring on “huge “ suitcases, not carry on size, but much bigger, and then a large pack pack stuffed. So they take up all the room in the overhead bins and if we are later boarding, there is no room so we have to check our small carry on. I have already paid for and checked in one bag! I certainly will not choose to fly with United again unless it is the “only” airline available!

For it to have left on time! Instead of two hours early with zero notice

Flight kept delayed from morning to late afternoon so I had to make other arrangements

Crew was nice, explained emergency protocol very well. Flight took off and arrived on time. Pilot explained the small delay that occurred with docking and providing updates. I would definitely fly spirit again.

Terrible… missed our flight due to ridiculously long time to go thru baggage check-in!

The crew was not great or professional. It seemed like they didn't really want to be there. A true lack of effort for accommodating customers.

Everything was really good but the seats are not very comfortable.

I paid for WiFi, but it (WiFi) was very very slow, will never take again! Impossible open Utube 😤😤😤

I had no legroom, although I paid for extra legroom. I could barely put my bag in front of my feet and under the seat. The Wi-Fi was horrible. In fact the flight attendant said that they had to reboot it and see if it was going to work and never did.

The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture. The airline should have better policy on limiting people with bad body odor to board the flight. Passengers should not be the ones to endure bad odor for the whole duration of the flight. The airline should be e the one to ensure decent air quality for ever passenger.

Overall it was a miserable experience... I will never fly spirit for more than a 3 hour flight or overnight.
