Spent 30 minutes trying to find a number to someone at Delta to check in & select seat. I was in Australia & all Delta offices were closed because it was Sunday. Although I had an internationally calling plan, no calls to Delta US would go through. finally found someone through a back channel that would help me. We boarded an hour late, and staff would not answer any of our questions about what was going on or how late we would arrive (they sped up the fight so that we landed on time). Flight ran out of drinking WATER after the first service. Half of our section (Economy Plus) was skipped for snacks. An unruly child was allowed to scream for almost the entire flight & was running up & down the aisles. NOTHING was said to the parents by staff members. Was absolutely the worst behaving child with who I've had to fly."

Pros: "I'm an American ex-pat who travels to and from between the US and Australia. I do whatever I can to fly on Australian rather than American airlines, as they are always much better in every regard. But in this case it wasn't feasible, and I found myself on a Delta flight. I'd say the overall experience was somewhere between okay-good. Nothing major to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. The entertainment options were decent. I appreciated the variety of newly released movies. However, I would have liked a greater selection of TV shows, and the availability of more episodes. I also appreciated the availability of internet access, but I don't understand why it has to be quite *so* pricey. Surely they could make a bit more on greater volume if they dropped the price a bit. I didn't purchase access, but I would have if it were 40-50% cheaper. The comfort of the plane seemed the same as any of the alternatives. Boarding and deplaning were as they should be."
Cons: "The service from the crew though was simply ok. They were just friendly enough not to be rude, but no more than that. Virgin Australia and Qantas consistently have much happier crews, who make you feel like a dignified guest, even in economy. The food was average at best, and they served two meals where the Australian airlines would serve three on the same flight. They also offered less in the way of snacks and drink refills. It seemed like they were cutting corners here, which I don't appreciate on a 15 hour flight. Also, they said they "proudly serve Starbucks coffee". After drinking it, I don't think they should be proud of that! Again, overall it was a decent experience. Nothing flashy, but nothing too bad either. If the costs are comparable for your flight, you should certainly choose one of the Australian carriers. You'll get better service from the crew and better food. The one caveat, however, is that Delta has WiFi, whereas at the date of writing this, the Australian carriers do not. While access is exorbitant, if you really need to get some work done on the plane, you might choose Delta for this reason alone."

Cons: "Connection flight from LAX to Seattle was dropped off of booking completely. When Delta was able to fix the changes in Sydney Australia they put my husbands ticket as a standby instead of putting him in an assigned seat and reported that they couldn't fix it that we would have to wait and get to LAX before the changes could be made again. There was a one and a half hour flight delay from LAX to Seattle. From Sydney Australia to LAX entertainment system didn't work the whole entire flight, they were screaming children the entire flight, and Delta had double booked seats on several different people. There were no apologies and no compensation for any of the incidences."

In the end we had to change our route in order to have a chance at making it to our destination that day. Even that didn’t work though; we had to spend the night in Charlotte."

American has one of the best selections of inflight entertainment with tons of movies and TV shows available for their long-haul flights."
Cons: "Boarding at Sydney International Airport was a bit of a chore. There is a pre-screening area where they check passports and boarding passes prior to reaching the gate. People are randomly selected for secondary screening. Give yourself extra time to board."

Despite us getting held up in traffic and running quite late, staff members of both American Airlines and Qantas were extremely calming and reassuring the whole way through. Pros: "I loved the Qantas plane that took us from LAX to Sudney. It was so quiet and smooth, and each seat in coach had very slight improvements , such as a head rest that moved, and cushions that atually felt comfortable. I think it was a new Dreamliner or something similar. AA should use these."

Cons: "Food choices were horrible as was the food quality. Especially for an international flight. AA should be embarrassed that this is the level by which they operate. Entertainment systems were faulty. Many around me had to be restarted. And crew seemed tired and irritated. Willing to overlook the chairs that barely reclined but with everything else operating at a poor level, it was just the icing on the cake."

Another had a voice so loud that I could hear him through my earplugs and Bose headphones while trying to sleep on the overnight flight. Cons: "My itinerary said 12pm departure from Sydney to Los Angeles. However, the departure time was 10:15am, and not on Qantas airlines, but on American. It was luck I found out about the changed time. Also, since the airline changed, it took extra time to find the correct counter to check-in."
