Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews

Cons: "Jetstar - c,mon, it’s an airborne bus really."
Pros: "Arrived ahead of schedule"
Pros: "Nice crew inside the plane"
Cons: "It is outrageous the price for overweight cabin that was not even 10kg. Not food or entertainment included in ticket price. Even if it's a short flight, at least water to keep passengers hydrated should provide. Really uncomfortable with this situation."
Pros: "The touch down landing was PERFECTLY smooth!! Thank you Captain!"
Cons: "Small walkway and seats."
Pros: "Seat was comfortable."
Pros: "Most importantly on time and friendly staff."
Cons: "For a discount airline everything was as expected. As said above, being in time and friendly employees made it an excellent flight."
Pros: "it was fast and effective"
Cons: "Easy to book and check in"
Pros: "Small flight"
Cons: "Nothing to say because small aircraft"
Pros: "one crew member appeared to authentically greet and farewell clients with a twinkle in his eyes."
Cons: "many of the other crew members appeared to actively dislike their job and to treat passengers disrespectfully,"
Cons: "We were shocked to be charged $275 for two checked bags. At the point that you are checking in you are trapped and don't have a choice but to pay it. We were told that if we had paid in advance it would be cheaper, but we didn't know what the weight of our bags would be so I just figured I'd pay at the airport. They didn't say that they charge so much more at the airport - which is a total rip off. We were also harassed by not having the email that showed we purchased an Australian Visa which is digitally tied to our passport. If they need to verify our Visa, then they should have the electronic means to verify it. Also, we were traveling from Sydney to Auckland so since we were leaving the country I'm not sure why they had to see our Australian Visa in the first place. We were already in the country!"
Pros: "It’s okay"
Pros: "I luved the attendants and the service"
Cons: "THE AIRPORT IS NOT IN MELBOURNE! We had to hire an Uber for 100 dollars to drive us the hour to Melbourne. It should be clearer when booking this airport is significantly farther away. It would have been more convenient and economical to fly into melbournes international airport."
Cons: "And no announcements re the delay until the very last minute."
Pros: "Attention to details"
Cons: "Lack of snacks"
Pros: "Good service and nice people"
Cons: "Nothing everything was good"
Pros: "the actual flight was fine"
Cons: "When I looked up the flight option through your site I selected one checked bag per person and it showed the price and I decided to purchase. Then when I tried to check in at Jetstar online it showed I had no checked bags WHY?! then I complained about it in an online chat and the chat agent would not agree and said I had to pay for checked bags if I had any and said he/she could do that and asked how much the bags weighed. Since I did not know and could not answer how much the weighed I decided to check them online myself since it gave me options for weight/price I knew our bags would be under - the chat ended and I proceeded to try to pay for one bag each online. However, after more than a half dozen attempts which were all rejected I had to close the online check in and leave as we were running short on time to get things done and get to the airport. At the airport I told all this to the agent at bag check and she would do noting but charged me about $240 for the two bags - grossly more than the $28 for one and $38 for the other that I was trying to pay online & roughly as much as the cost of the flights! Will you please let me know what can be done to get my money back as this is just not right?"
Cons: "Flight change fee within 24h of booking would have been $120 for a $49 flight. Carry-on was 9kg instead of 7kg - $60 extra fee. Never again."
Pros: "Avalon is quiet, decent facilities"
Cons: "Should give water on the flight. Didn’t buy food didn’t use entertainment"
Cons: "It was good flight"
Cons: "Rude ground staff."
Pros: "Wide seats"
Cons: "After nearly one hour in line then we are charged $75 prr baggage and to pay for it we had to go yet in another line. All this cost us a lot of delays and we almost missed our flight. Even though we were at the airport almost 2 hours before flight time. Check in process was extremely old fashion. Been on the plane we won’t even asked for food so I am not sure what with the system there either we have to pre-buy the food or something else that we weren’t made aware of. And we had to pay for our own water."
Cons: "Didn't realize when I booked I'd be charged $60 for a lightweight duffel, one way. Will not repeat."
Pros: "And different from other international carriers ( 20 kg instead of 23 kg). I had to pay 105 AUS for a carry-on from Sydney to Melbourne. It would have been less expensive for the carry-on to buy a seat."
Cons: "Eat and sleep"
Pros: "The price. It is a budget airline and you pay for everything...EVERYTHING. The food is great, but you have to pay for it. The entertainment options were very good and it was a cheap $9 for my flights between Sydney and Honolulu."
Cons: "I have now flown to Sydney twice from Honolulu for a total of four flights. Each flight had at least one bathroom that was out of service. The website doesn't work very well and didn't always present all of the options to me. For example, I wanted to purchase a meal but the website only allowed me to purchase a generic voucher instead of a meal. Once the website was working, I called customer service and they wouldn't refund me the voucher so I could pre-purchase the meal or apply the voucher towards the meal."
Pros: "The fact that we tried to check our bags 10 minutes too early but the bag check desk used the ten minutes to train new staff and allowed us to shave $25 off a potential bag weight fee."
Cons: "Need to repeat several times if you change a gate number for our flight."
Cons: "RIDICULOUS baggage fees. Because I booked through Kayak I never received a confirmation from the airline. When we went to check In at the airport I was informed I would have to pay $160 PER BAG and $35 PER KILO over 15kg. The agent informed me that I needed to pay baggage fees based on weight at the time I booked. How in the hell am I supposed to know 2 months in advance how much my luggage weighs? The baggage fees were 4 times the price of the ticket! And then they weigh your carry on to try to collect even more fees if the total weight of your carry on exceeds 7kg. No food or water on board and VERY rude head flight attendant. NEVER AGAIN and I will think twice about booking through Kayak given I was never informed of these fees in advance."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 2 hours without any kind of adjustment on the flight status board, they just told us to keep checking back and listening for announcements. Everything from the food to the entertainment had to be paid for, not even complimentary snacks or coffee on an 11 hour flight. They didn't even offer water or anything at any point, had to hit the beacon to ask for it any time we wanted it and the flight attendants took extremely long and seemed almost annoyed to be bothered. The seats were pretty uncomfortable, more so than the seats on most 1 hour flights I take domestically (which also pretty much universally offer snacks and complimentary coffee, tea and soft drinks in spite of being a tiny fraction of the duration) and, not that this is within their control, but there were 2 infants on board that cried the entire flight through. I will never be flying Jetstar again."
Cons: "Crying kids on flights drive me nuts. Not much can be done about it though. Also it is really mean of Jetstar to charge for inflight entertainment. I can understand charging food food and beverage, if they have lab our and procurement costs but running an entertainment screen costs them nothing. It is outright opportunism. Also while I'm on the topic, my continuing winger is luggage charge calculation. Why do I at 72kg with 10kg of luggage have to pay extra when a 150kg person doesn't. Air travel cost is directly proportional to payload. This has to change."
Cons: "With an aisle seat, bumped several times by crew everyone they walked up and down the aircraft"
Cons: "Jetstar is the worst airline around. Its absolutely ridiculous that they charge you 10X more for checked luggage at airport check-in. When I booked my flight 5 months in advance, I didn't see the option of buying luggage (and also didn't think it mattered at the time because normal airlines like Delta, United, etc. charge the same rate no matter when you decide). Thank goodness I knew to buy luggage before getting to the airport but was still charge $60 AUD (when it would have only been $35 if I did it when I originally booked). And it would have been over $150 if I waited for the airport. WHO THE F CARES WHEN I DECIDE TO CHECK A BAG??? YOU STILL HAVE TO GO TO THE COUNTER NO MATTER WHAT. Jetstar is such a low class airline. Then they wanted to weigh my carry-on which was 9kilo (2k over the limit)... full of all camera gear. The guy literally started yelling at me, made me feel so uncomfortable, and my eyes began to water. He was screaming to another woman in front of everyone that I was WAY over the weight limit and was to be charged $210. He was extremely aggressive. (This was a moment I wish I would have whipped out my phone and took a video... would have gone viral). The woman wasn't any better either. At first she was really aggressive and I hadn't said a word. I just watched them react as if I brought a weapon. She raised her voice at me yelling about the stupid luggage being too heavy.... and at that point I told her that she needed to lower her voice and talk to me like a human (let alone a customer). At that point she did realize that she was being ridiculous and lowered her voice (I might even give her the benefit of the doubt and say the guy may have rattled her). I explained to her that I was carrying expensive camera gear and batteries (which you cannot put in checked luggage) and that I'd be happy to put it in the checked bag (especially since I had extra kilos that I hadn't used). She said I would need to sign a waiver exempting them from being responsible if anything was stolen from my bag. I politely said absolutely not. If you cannot get my luggage to my destination safely then I would happily not get on the plane and walk over to the Air New Zealand desk and buy a ticket. At that point she looked me up and saw how much I flew with them and then decided to let me on the plane. Which mind you, the plane was 75% EMPTY. After all that. Geez. Never again Jetstar. Never again."
Pros: "Efficiency, timeliness, friendly crew"
Cons: "1. Center of seat was so thin I could feel some part of the structure pushing against my spine to the point of discomfort. 2. Temperature was quite cold for both flights (row 19 & 21). Not sure if it was my location or something else, but I fly a fair amount and the temp was below what was comfortable for me."
Pros: "Debbie at Avalon was very kind and helpful!"
Cons: "Upon boarding a flight from Sydney to Avalon I was told my duffel bag was too large to carry on the plane even though I had been allowed to fly a few days prior with the same bag. I even placed my bag in the sizer at the gate but she still told me it was too large and "too heavy" although she did not weigh nor pick up my bag. About 5 minutes prior I had seen her walk a guitar that had been gate checked down to the plane. My bag was not so lucky. I arrived at Avalon and my bag didn't. My bag was going to arrive on the next plane which wasn't coming in for 3 hours. We were staying about an hour from the airport and boarding an early morning flight from Tullamarine to Los Angeles. Deliveries of missed luggage ceased 2 hours before my bag was due at the airport and didn't commence until after I was due at Tullamarine the next morning. The flight attendant who made me check my bag was on my flight and easily could have told me my bag wouldn't be making it on our flight but she didn't. She was rude, smug, and unaccomodating. The customer service representative at Avalon, Debbie, was more than helpful trying to figure out the best option for me to retrieve my luggage before my flight home to Los Angeles. She made a stressful situation a little less so. Thank you Debbie!"
Cons: "That I had to pay another $60 for the cost of checking a bag."
Pros: "We packed very light for a ten-day trip to Australia (two small carry one, a messenger bag and a tote). Nevertheless, we ended up spending $50 each to check bags. So much for a bargain flight."
Pros: "Customer service and ticket counter staff pleasant--that's it. Everything else disappointing -- will not fly them again -- Air New Zealand or Quantas only; don't know about United Emirates; paid $100 for baggage greater than 7K on international travel -- only $50 for domestic travel -- beware!! Must get luggage allowance on line at least 4 hours in advance of departure. Seats are tighter than any U.S. carrier including Spirit and Frontier. Kayak should somehow warn passengers unfamiliar with Jetstar airlines policy!!!"
Pros: "I liked how they were on time to Sydney. The plane was larger and more comfortable. It was pretty clean throughout. The pilots were experienced and we had a good landing at both ends. There were nice screens for each seat and USB charge inputs."
Cons: "I didn't like the fact that I couldn't do a web check-in for flying to and from the US. They didn't have any kiosk to do a check in as well. The line for a manual check in at the Sydney airport was very long (over 40 minutes). The food was really gross, unsettling to my stomach, expensive, and served in the tiniest portions. They charged me $160 to check in my carry on (must be 7 kilos). They randomly choose which baggage to weigh. The flight attendants barely spoke English. The desk staff are understaffed and work at the front and the gate, which was unusual."
Cons: "It is one awful airline. First they fly from Avalon airport which is too far from Melbourne. Then they have a scheme to overcharge you for luggage. We went with two carry on, small suitcases and they charged us 100 Austrlian dollars. Nothing is offered on the plane. Service is bad all around. AWFUL"
Cons: "Well we got there after finding it confusing to get to the airport, got there in time to board, went to put in my information got to the part where I entered to 20 KG baggage and entered it wrong, put down both having luggage, tried to go back on the screen, it didn't work, asked for helped the lady was busy and asked me to hold, as we did, when she came back after 5 minutes, she returned to main screen, which she didn't need to but by the time she went through the whole process again flight had closed arghhhhh $100 extra for next flight, disappointed as you would be.... first holiday,Many tears and disappointed because we were there in time but hey bad luck I was told but being an error, disappointed, by no one cares Judy"
Cons: "The Jetstar domestic flight from Sydney to Cairns unexplicably left from the international terminal and we missed our flight due to that. The employees at Jetstar were rude and unhelpful. Jetstar cares only about money and not about customers' safety and security. They never even asked for our passports to verify that we were the actual ticketholders! However, they made sure to charge us every penny possible for our luggage. I could not get a simple cup of water on the flight without paying for it. Jetstar is a terrible airline and I would not recommend it to anybody!"
Cons: "The fact that they did not mention ahead of time that if I check bag at airport there was going to be a 50 dollar charge but if I had checked the night before on line only a 25 dollar charge. That does not seem fair expecially since they don't seen you email or anything telling you this in advance. The ticket agent at the airport told me."
Cons: "I booked a return flight from Brisbane to Sydney for a business meeting that only lasted a few hours. I flew in Domestic and when I tried checking in for the return flight they said I was booked on international and had to take a train to that terminal. When I arrived at the International terminal they then told me I needed a Passport or Australian ID. I only had Canadian ID as I didn't need anything other than my booking number to fly into Sydney. So they then book me back on a later flight home at the domestic terminal so then I had to take the train back to where I started from. The staff just looked at me like I was the stupid one through this circus."
Cons: "There's no entertainment however the flight is only one hour"
Pros: "We were on our way from syd to bali and just before we reached ocean we turned around and headed back toward Melbourne. As upset as we were about that situation they were extremely accommodating. They said the Landon strip in Bali had broke so we couldn't land. They Bieber, gave us free coffee, tea and juices and gave us all free onboard entertainment. When we got to Melbourne they had set up free shuttle server and out us all up in a very very nice suite and gave us a voucher for breakfast which was more than enough! Then on our way back to bali they again gave us all free onboard entertainment. Very nice! Loved it!"
Cons: "Didn't like that they took so long to tell us about the problems on the landing strip. I thought we were being hijacked!"
Pros: "Deplane at both front and rear of plane."
Cons: "Gate was chaotic, trying to load a bus to the plane."
Cons: "departing late (again)"
