Pros: "The crew on air New Zealand was absolutely amazing. Amazing customer service, makes me always want to fly with air New Zealand."
Cons: "I had no heads up that New Zealand required an app downloaded and a government check before you can travel to New Zealand. Because of this, I had to download the app at the airport, and because it can take up to 72 hours for the NZ gov to approve your app, I almost missed my flight. Would have appreciated 72 hours notice of this new rule."

They were very unhelpful and on topof that kayak did not let us know there would be a $160 fee if we did not order a seat with a baggage. It was not clear on the third party site. It was a very costly for us, a couple who is on a budget. i book From kayak all the time, and know exactly when I am booking an economy ticket vs a more upgrade. We had to pay an unexpected $320 on the day of flight. It was ridiculous and while we were boarding the flight attendants held us up again bc we had not paid the fee. But we tried to pay the fee at the front desk the first time and then we paid it at the gate and then boarded last on the plane. It was awful. The staff did not know anything and we were not treated great. Super unprofessional and disappointed at Kayak for not laying out all the costs ahead of me."

Cons: "Booked flight through Kayak on Virgin Australia, but found out it was a codeshare on Air New Zealand. No where during booking did it show we would be charged for 1 checked bag a piece. Got to the airport and Air New Zealand was going to charge 134 AUD for each checked bag. Fortunately, they recommended going to the Virgin Australia counter to see if they could add a checked bag to our ticket. The nice people at Virgin used an online code to give us a discount so we only paid 25 AUD a bag. Thanks a lot for the heads up Kayak. We will book direct next time to avoid surprises. Also, almost all movies on Air New Zealand were an extra charge, and the only drinks offered for free on a 3 hour flight were coffee, tea, and water - no soft drinks."

Pros: "Air New Zealand is one of the best air experiences we've had. Employees seem to enjoy their jobs and are usually happy. Very service oriented. Ground staff and check in terrific. Why can't USA folks and TSA figure this out? Updates from flight deck were good and pilot seemed to avoid some expected turbulence. Cabin crew friendly, competent, helpful. Food was very good, nice touch with comp wine. Entertainment options were many and good variety. Hope to fly ANZ again someday."

Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia kept handing me off to each other since it was booked as virgin Australia but on an air New Zealand flight. Neither wanted to help at first. Finally virgin Australia ticket agent took pity and helped me rebook for the next day. This was after I was told by air New Zealand that I had to call the booking number for virgin Australia. I’m traveling from the US and didn’t have a cell phone that worked in Australia... which I explained and asked how I could call the number without a phone. Was promptly told to go over to Virgin Australia ticket counter where I made the one remaining agent who was closing the desks help me. However the airport lost my luggage and could not find where it was. I ended up spending three hours in the airport and still no luggage with the baggage company saying they have no record of it anywhere. Very frustrating trip."

Pros: "I was recovering from a cold and didn't anticipate having ear problems but during decent I began to experience some pain. It was all new to me as I had never been through this before. Fortunately the crew was kind and they provided a sinus decongestant in a cup for me to sniff and breath in so the smell could open up my nasal passages and it helped a bit."

This was really claustrophobic. It was like being in a closed in tin can. It should be disclosed that the window seat is not a window seat so you have the option to change to somewhere else. The seats are really quite cramped. A huge delay"

After booking through KAYAK for flights, the on-line check-in process was a nightmare with the KAYAK booking number not matching the information required by QANTAS. As my children were all spread over the plane, and two son's look very similar, a hostess almost did not serve one of my son's a meal as she believed my son had already received a meal further forward in the plane. Thankfully, upon checking, the hostess realised that it was a case of mistaken identity."

Plenty of leg room on the flight and the cabin staff were fantastic, only thing that let it down was the food choice, but, as it was only a 3 hour flight this wasn;t really a problem. Would gladly fly with them again any time."

Cons: "The second meal, a small noodle box was dry, overcooked, and bland even with the dressing. The crew was not very friendly during the flight (I understand maybe they had a cranky passenger before and it was a long flight but smiling isnt that hard!). Inflight service was inconsistent as one side came down to serve 15minutes after the first side. The headphones looked quite dirty so I used my own. Boarding was quite slow and then takeoff was late but it was nice that the captain explained it."

Cons: "One negative experience was that there was only 1hr 30mins between connecting flights. Between departing international flight - picking up luggage/toilet stop and clearing Immigration/Customs then catching bus between Qantas international domestic terminals we were racing to catch flight. As we arrived Qantas domestic terminal our names were being called over along with info the plane was awaiting our arrival. In my experience 2hrs is minimum time between connecting flights - otherwise good experience."

Pros: "Like the staff -so down to earth Australian -no airs and graces like some other airlines. No fuss service. Always very helpful.You actually get food and drinks gratis on Qantas! The craft are always clean and well maintained. Easy to check in on line too. Offered in flight entertainment but didn't require it."

The price was high enough - not to have to put up with these issues."

Pros: "Virgin Australia’s staff is some of the most friendly and professional staff I’ve flown with. They go above and beyond to be hospitable. Also, this particular flight was an evening flight and they even had complimentary snacks- not just peanuts but actual crackers and cheese. There was a small delay in the beginning due to crew having to come from another late aircraft but they handled it very professionally and despite starting late, still got us to our destination ahead of schedule."

But after we booked we realized a third-party website – Webjet- would be handling our tickets which resulted in many problems. We ended up needing to change our itinerary in a simple way that would’ve been easy to do through the airline but webjet would not accommodate without spending $2500 in ticket fees. To avoid that we had to book additional tickets and take an additional flight that ended up being cheaper but quite the hassle that took way longer"

Cons: "We flew Latam to go snowboarding in Argentina. The moment we arrived at the desk to check in, it was chaos. We waited in line for almost 2 hours to check in. When we got to Buenos Aires, our snowboard bags had not made it on the flight. Having to deal with Latam agents who hardly spoke English and were not helpful at all was intensity frustrating. Our bags finally got to our destination 2 days later. We had to drive to the airport to pick them up because they were not going to deliver them for another day, so we would have been 3 days without our snowboard gear. Latam did nothing to compensate us for the days lost no did they even seem to care. This is one of the most frustrating companies I have ever dealt with. I booked a return flight on Delta and lost $1000 just so I don’t have to deal with Latam again. Any money you save on a flight is not worth having to deal with this company. Stick with reliable American-based companies with customer service that is up to American standards."

I have a feeling this was just a decision she made to spite us as there were still ~20 minutes until departure. Well, guess what... our flight was about 15 minutes delayed. I don’t work in the aviation industry, but I assume it wouldn’t have taken 35 minutes to load. Her attitude was awful and she provided zero help when asked how when our luggage would arrive and what the process to claim it is. She simply said “I don’t know, enjoy the flight” with a smug look on her face. Never flying this airline again. Thanks to Jetstar for causing an inconvenience on our honeymoon."

Been on the plane we won’t even asked for food so I am not sure what with the system there either we have to pre-buy the food or something else that we weren’t made aware of. And we had to pay for our own water."

Would pay more to fly with another airline."

Cons: "This was my first time flying with Jetstar and like many other reviews have stated, the luggage fees are absolutely ridiculous. I had one suitcase which cost me close to $300 AUD, just insane considering it was an international flight. I later found out from another passenger that you have to purchase luggage online - this wasn't clear to me when I booked my ticket. I also didn't realize you have to pre-book your meals. They had "snacks" you could purchase, though they ran out of what I wanted so I settled for a less than satisfying cup of noodles and a tiny meat pie. I was starving on a 10 hour flight! That, plus our delay sitting on the tarmac for an hour, coupled with atrocious customer service (anytime you asked for something, you were clearly "bothering" them) and dirty seats/trays, made this the worst flying experience I've ever had."

Customer Service at the counter was horrible including the manager that we talked to. We ended up throwing things in the trash to get our weight down and we were told we changed our baggage weight and lowered our own allowance . How rediculous would that be of us. They even told us we were only allowed 1 carry on which includes our purse and could not be over A certsin weight. For a small carry-on......that is really rediculous. Our luggage cost us $470.00. We had no complimentary food or entertainment for our 8 hour flight. We will NEVER fly this airline again and I hope from reading this review and many others, that you won't either."
