Cons: "I was very disappointed with the service that was received on the trip from Sydney to Johannesburg. Firstly, the flight was delayed by over 3 hours due to an air conditioning mal function which made the cabin too hot to board. I understand that engineering issues happen from time to time but I would have expected Qantas to be able to mitigate such an issue in a timely manner or at least provide their guests with an indication of the delay earlier or compensation (airport meal voucher or Qantas club entry etc) to wait out the delay. After the aeroplane had apparently cooled down to an acceptable temperature, there was a subsequent announcement that there would be a further delay as the catering had been spoiled in the hot cabin. Again, sounds like poor planning/ organisation that I would have expected better from Qantas especially over the holiday season. Secondly, the entertainment system at my seat did not work throughout the flight. Again, I understand that engineering malfunctions occur but on a 14 hour, day time flight, it certainly made for a long journey and I was extremely frustrated and disappointed that this service was not available. Thirdly, the meal option that I selected had run out each time the mea cart arrived at my seat - again bad luck. Lastly, due to the flight delay, I missed my connecting flight. I had to purchase a new ticket on the later flight even after the Qantas staff in Sydney had promised that any missed connections would be taken care of. This was a very unsettling and frustrating start to the holiday."

Cons: "This was an ultimate of bad luck. Plane started but never took off due to maintenance problems. Next there was no plane to take us to NZ. Lucky we got offered to stay the night in an hotel... Next day early we supposes to be told of our next destination. But no call came.. When we checked the airport we found an absolute disorganised mess.. People where fighting for a place to the next destination... lang queues there was no organisation. We got in NZ the following day at 6 PM. By seeing this gave me the feeling that in a real emergency this bunch of people have no hope to help..."

Cons: "if I remember correctly the screen size was a little small for a new plane. Also I asked for two alcohol drinks, but was told only one may be served. I only asked so I wouldn't have to get up during my movie, and on Air New Zealand, they freely offer more than one drink. Also, if I remember correctly the arm rests did not raise all the way. We had all three seats to ourselves, and it would have been nice to lift the armrests all the way up so we could stretch out properly."

I am frustrated with Qantas overall because we landed late and because of the customs requirement we had to pick up our bags and bring them to another bag drop for my American Airline flight to Tampa. Because of the flight delay and Customs I missed my flight by 10 minutes. And am now awaiting the next flight home which was 4 hours later."

People with connections should have been handled separately and in a different way. Fruit was fabulous and fresh - there were none left when I requested mine, but the flight attendant said there may be some left from other servers. Within a few minutes, she did bring one which I was thankful as I didn’t care for the other selection."

I understand that it's airline food - but don't offer it if you can't at least make it slightly acceptable.... The staff was a bit all over the place and slow - it seems like having the flight at capacity was too much for them to handle. The sets in business are really starting to show their age and need a really need a steam clean."

Means you travel through the day and arrive in la in the am. If you didn't get to sleep it's torture. Also flight attendants put on full lights to serve breakfast 3 hours before flight landed! Which was around midnight to the passengers body clocks. United and virgin let passengers sleep"

Afraid of missing my flight, I didn't doze even though I had been awake for 20 hours at this point. Once I got on the plane, the seats were so small in economy my hips were pressed against the arm rests and I am not a large person. The man next to me was pressing through over to my side. We both had difficulty opening the tray for meals because they were in the arm rests (not that it mattered, we were never served good). The controls for the entertainment and lights were in the arm rests as well and there was no way to see them because your thighs were pressed against them. The screen for my entertainment was crooked and flickered. The charging port did not work for my cell phone. The earphone jack had to be wiggled and wiggled and then I had to hold my leg perfectly still not to bump it. I eventually gave up trying to use the entertainment screen. I preordered my meal online, but waiting for dinner, already exhausted, I dozed off. I didn't get dinner and no one came around the rest of the trip and offered any refreshments. No water, no snack, nothing. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I saw a crew member for the rest of the flight."

I am surprised why Qantas is rated #9 among best airlines for 2016. I will try to avoid Qantas in the gorier."
