FAQs - booking Caribbean flights

  • What is the recommended way to find cheap flights to the Caribbean?

To save money on flights to the Caribbean, try to book your airfare in advance. Some airlines release tickets up to a year ahead. If your schedule is flexible, you can search for different dates for cheaper flights. Passengers who don’t mind a few layovers along the way may also be able to find cheaper flights from Australia to the Caribbean. For example, a flight from Melbourne to Port of Spain that has three layovers is cheaper than a flight with two layovers.

  • Where can I stop along the way?

As there are no direct flights to the Caribbean, this is a great opportunity to break up the long flight and enjoy a few nights at one of the layover points along the way. Qatar Airways flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana stop in Doha and New York. If you are travelling to Montego Bay, Jamaica, American Airlines flights from Sydney have layovers in Los Angeles and Miami. Travelling to San Juan, Puerto Rico? Flights from Sydney stop in Dallas Fort Worth and Miami.

  • Which visa do I need to enter the Caribbean?

If you are travelling to the Caribbean as a tourist, Australians can stay for up to 90 days without a visa. This includes the countries Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Sint Maarten and the Bahamas, among others. To enter the Caribbean, Australians require a passport with at least six months of validity beyond the intended stay. Some countries will also ask travellers to show an onward ticket.

  • Which airport should I choose when flying to the Dominican Republic?

If a Caribbean holiday is on your bucket list, you can find upscale resorts in the Dominican Republic. The faster flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the north take roughly 28 hours, but they are generally more expensive. You can find cheaper flights to Puerto Plata International Airport (POP), but they usually take longer to arrive.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Australia to Caribbean.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Australia to Caribbean is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Australia to Caribbean with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Australia to Caribbean?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from Australia to Caribbean up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Uncomfortable plastic seats even in premium economy. No free wifi. Even paid wifi was spotty to nonexistent. Bad food. Much worse than economy on foreign carriers like Qantas.

Uncomfortable plastic seats even in premium economy. No free wifi. Even paid wifi was spotty to nonexistent. Bad food. Much worse than economy on foreign carriers like Qantas.

Good flight. However, when booked flight with United, assumed the layover included by United in San Francisco of 1 hr and 40 minutes was sufficient . Not so and would recommend at least 2 hours or more. Needed to go through US immigration (very long lineups), then pick up bags, take all the way to another terminal, running because we did not have sufficient time. We made the flight because they held the door for us but luggage didn’t follow.

It was good but only meal served is very less. Meantime good to add rice and chicken in one of meal

I found the staff to not be very attentive at all. When paying for Business Class you expect a certain type of service and that was not found. They were almost rude even

Great. Food going from Australia to the US was better than other way around, but still needs improvement in terms of quality and quantity!!!

Flight departed owing to SFO TSA delays as well as incoming flight running late I know these delays are commonplace but when you’re flying long haul international the least that could be done is priority being given to customers in this situation I raced to the gate the plane was still there but NO UNITED AIRLINES STAFF in the surrounding area could seemingly provide effective support This coloured my view of flying with UA The actual flights were good

Crew seemed annoyed by the fact we were there. Very unpleasant

Due to a cancelled flight the day before this flight only had 44 people. Best flight ever on international route. Food getting better. Can United provide fruit ex apples and bananas for snacks? Crew fantastic.

Honestly didn’t like anything. Crew was in rush . Food was ok and there was no whiskey. Have to pay extra $ if you want to drink whiskey . They only provide wine and beer.

Compared to other international Airlines the infotainment system is need of overhaul. Doesn't have music it's got a limited selection of movies but I was impressed that an American airline was showing the documentary on John Farnham an Australian singer!

Flight canceled twice. Second cancellation with no notice. Qatar only got me to Copenhagen even thou flight from Copenhagen to Helsinki was code shared with QR they made me purchase a separate ticket for over 200€. At check in only 1 check in was allowed. I had to argue with staff to allow the second, carry-on sized, bag to be checked in for free. My original tix allowed 2 full size luggage as checked luggage. My 14+hr flight turned into a 60+ hr journey. 😢

Very poor No information given to why we turned around.. No one at airport to help

Friendly and discreet staff. Could have done with a few more offers of water/snacks overnight. Movie and tv selection notably poor. Seats not especially comfortable

The check-in and crew staff were wonderful. The food was reasonable. The online side Qatar was very poor. Seats were very tight and not very comfortable for a 14 hour flight!

No towels or tissue and chocolate and mint provided before arrival

they give hard time at checking, they not allow computer bag or purse

I found it weird that the quality of the flight different from Australia to Doha than the Doha to Berlin leg. The quality of the toiletries pack (was in a box from Australia) and then a proper bag from Doha. The biggest variation was the inflight entertainment, which had a significantly shorter amount of content compared to the Doha flight. My QSuite seat was also broken and did not recline all the way flat. Wasn’t the best and I wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid cash for the flight.

Crews are very rude and unhelpful. Cramped seats in economy. Foods are useless

The plane from Dublin to Doha was quite comfortable. I was in economy and the seats and rows were very tight. The man in front of me reclined his seat and it made my screen incredibly close to my face and I wasn’t able to take my tray down and my knees were pressed against the seat. I had to ask three times for him to pull his seat up but in his defence he hadn’t even reclined it far, the rows were just too close. I had a pain in my side by the end of the flight from the chairs which were quite worn and not very padded or supportive. It was a significantly inferior plane to the plane from Doha to Sydney and vice versa.

Seats were not comfortable and touch free remote wasn’t working.

The plane was comfortable but the crew wasn’t friendly.

I was traveling alone abroad for the first time and the staff was not helpful and rude at times.

Delayed 24 hours. Should have called it much earlier They provided quality accommodations, food vouchers etc. FINALLY The issues started at 8 AM and they cancelled the flight at 11:30 PM, with no plans for a new flight.

Forced to check bags. Crew uninterested in collecting trash. Unclean seats.

The flight attendants as well as the gate agent were out to lunch. Nothing extraordinary about their service. American just keeps getting worse every year.

I have been flying with American most of my professional career. But the airline seems tired and becoming more and more subpar with older planes than other airlines, dirtier and less comfortable seating, and less and less amenities. Their WiFi seldom works and their food is becoming more and more mediocre. How do you fly from LAX to PHL with only being offered one drink and as a platinum customer. I am exploring delta here on out for more of my flying.

American Airlines canceled the flight twice and was unable to facilitate a change of city for us after our travel plans became affected. We lost alot of money due to this and it seems like the airline was trying their best not to facilitate this. Mind you, I am a very loyal member.

Flight was a delayed a few minutes but nothing crazy, everything went extremely well

Our seats were better than i had anticipated. They provided nice pillows and blankets as well as a kit with ear plugs, sleep mask and headphones which made the long haul flight better. Their food selection and service was good. I appreciated that they came through the cabin with water a few times. We were ahead of schedule which was nice!

Staff was very helpful. They looked for compartment space when I couldn't find any. This allowed me to sit while they put away my bag

My original booking with Air Canada turned into a headache

The flight attendants were not very nice. No smiles On my return trip I was charged for one bag $83.30 although I had purchased the flight including one piece of luggage. Can this be refunded to me? Thank you!

Previous flight from Melbourne to Brisbane was late. I had 1 hr 40 min to get to the connecting flight. That was not enough time as I had to take a shuttle bus to change terminal. Then needed to get through security and customs. The airline was announcing my name to board at 9:10. The take off time was scheduled for 9:40 but I was again one of the last to board at about 9:20. Kayak needs to allow more time for these connections

Almost missed boarding, mass line up made me be the last person. Wish the announcement was more loud, didn’t hear what seats or zones were ready. Being last also made finding space for my roller bag. Fortunately the flight attendants made it work!

Good service was quite limited but that is due to short flight.

Full compliments to Captain for all four landing. Crew could be more polite and nice.

So smooth and easy! From boarding to arriving, we are very happy with our experience on air Canada.

Great service, friendly flight attendants. Boarding was easy. Food was airline food, nothing special but okay. Entertainment was great and overall experience really good. would fly with Air Canada again any time

There was a long delay on tarmac. The pilot kept us informed. The flight stewards were not entertaining or comforting. During the flight we received minimal service. Several food choices for purchase were not available at our seating of row 52. Only twice were we offered water for hydration. A half hour before landing teh pilot acknowledged that some passengers with connecting flights should tell flight stewards and they would help.. We had a connecting flight thand at should have had a 2+ hour layover and now would be less than 1 hour from departure. The flight attendant told us not to worry.. plenty of time. We did not get off the plane until after 6 o'clock. We are seniors (ages 74 and 72 ) and had to walk the length of the terminal to go thru customs and the length of the next terminal to departure gate for 6:30 a boarding call. We ran and were breathing hard and reached the departure gate by 6:50. We rate the flight stewards negatively...the pilot did his best.

Easy boarding, punctuality, decent service. The only thing I would complain about is the misleading claim of free messaging, which you do not get access to without preparation prior to the flight.

Good was great. Some of the older crew were grumpy and not customer friendly.

My enetertainmnet screen was broken. Lost my bags. Almost missed my flight do to connection issues with (despite a request) ZERO help from crew. Food was edible. Potatoes pretty good even

I had an awful experience with British Airways as they broke the handle of my checked in suitcase and when I went to complain they told me that this was not their responsibility. This has to be one horrible airline that does not take responsibility for the damage that they have created

Plane is old. Toilet did not work. Once in Singapore the continuation to London was cancelled.

Food was terrible , crew were excellent , IFE was dire . Overall comfortable seat and cabin. Nothing special .

My problem was with the onward connection between London Heathrow and Washington IAD. The flight was several times changed.

After British Airways flying with Qatar was a breath of fresh air. All the little things that make a long haul flight awesome. Efficient, friendly, genuine. Amazing.

Flight was 4.5 hours late leaving New Orleans. Food wasted. Couldn't serve dinner. Missed our connection

In the "old" configuration Club class, in an aisle seat you are literally sleeping in the aisle with no privacy at all. In addition, there is hardly any storage space, and it is hard to make sense of the seat controls.

Everything was excellent, although flight delayed however can’t control that, but what I don’t understand is why the smallest portion of food ie: bit of rice & bit of chicken (no exaggeration) no salad, no veges, nothing else, but cake & icecream later…this is just not a great reflection on the quality of airlines. People spend $1,500 on a flight surely airlines can spend an extra $1 on their passengers meals…even bread & butter can do the trick. ESP on a 8 hour flight! Cutting costs is one thing, but this is just not ok.
