FAQs - booking Caribbean flights

  • What is the recommended way to find cheap flights to the Caribbean?

To save money on flights to the Caribbean, try to book your airfare in advance. Some airlines release tickets up to a year ahead. If your schedule is flexible, you can search for different dates for cheaper flights. Passengers who don’t mind a few layovers along the way may also be able to find cheaper flights from Australia to the Caribbean. For example, a flight from Melbourne to Port of Spain that has three layovers is cheaper than a flight with two layovers.

  • Where can I stop along the way?

As there are no direct flights to the Caribbean, this is a great opportunity to break up the long flight and enjoy a few nights at one of the layover points along the way. Qatar Airways flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana stop in Doha and New York. If you are travelling to Montego Bay, Jamaica, American Airlines flights from Sydney have layovers in Los Angeles and Miami. Travelling to San Juan, Puerto Rico? Flights from Sydney stop in Dallas Fort Worth and Miami.

  • Which visa do I need to enter the Caribbean?

If you are travelling to the Caribbean as a tourist, Australians can stay for up to 90 days without a visa. This includes the countries Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Sint Maarten and the Bahamas, among others. To enter the Caribbean, Australians require a passport with at least six months of validity beyond the intended stay. Some countries will also ask travellers to show an onward ticket.

  • Which airport should I choose when flying to the Dominican Republic?

If a Caribbean holiday is on your bucket list, you can find upscale resorts in the Dominican Republic. The faster flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the north take roughly 28 hours, but they are generally more expensive. You can find cheaper flights to Puerto Plata International Airport (POP), but they usually take longer to arrive.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Australia to Caribbean.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Australia to Caribbean is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Australia to Caribbean with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Australia to Caribbean?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from Australia to Caribbean up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

The flight from HYD to DOH was delayed by 3 hours and we missed the connection from DOH to MIA. We had to wait 24H more to get the MIA flight. It was a total disaster. If the flight crew had waited 1 more hour to accommodate their 3 hour delayed flight, we would not have lost a whole day !

Very poor No information given to why we turned around.. No one at airport to help

Qatar Airways has gone down over the last few years.

It would help id flight crew were not rude and showed some courtesy. They were shouting at passengers and yelling instructions as if we were school children at lunch cafeteria!!

Friendly and discreet staff. Could have done with a few more offers of water/snacks overnight. Movie and tv selection notably poor. Seats not especially comfortable

Qatar maybe considered one of the best ailines in the world but nowadays it is much of a muchness with the rest

Lobster starter in business class was not good, tough, served cold, and without butter. Movie selection was missing latest releases, did not offer older classic, high quality movies

Good. It would be great if comfort seats were available

It never happened. Me flight from Doha to São Paulo was lated and the time of waiting for the luggage arrives when we arrived in São Paulo was about 1 hour and half. So it took a lot of time just waiting the luggage of flight that was already late, consequently we lost the flight to Recife with Latam Airlines and had to go to the Qatar office to arrange another flight to us to Recife, that one with Azul Airlines. It was more 4 hours waiting to this other flight to knows that this other flight was delayed too, total of 5 hours more at the airport to waiting to go home :/

My entire row did not have power for the full duration of a 14.5 hour flight. Could not charge any devices such as laptop or phones for the entirety of the long flight. The flight attendants tried to remedy the issue by resetting the power, but were not successful. The only other solution provided was to move me to another seat on the plane which was in the middle row. I had paid for a “preferred” seat that was a window seat. This was a downgrade being offered due to the power issue.

Improve the food offerings and cabin seating. My wife would prefer to fly another airline, even with a connection for a more comfortable trip. A 737-8 should not be scheduled for a 6 hour segment, which turned into 7.5 hours due to the origin ground delay.

Uncomfortable plastic seats even in premium economy. No free wifi. Even paid wifi was spotty to nonexistent. Bad food. Much worse than economy on foreign carriers like Qantas.

I would have liked to have been served more food when it came to Panama to Newark

Offered to check carry on to final destination. This is the most absurd thing in the world. I'm carrying on because I need what is in the carry-on. I'm okay with picking up at next stop but then I will be on much larger plane that can accommodate it. Also, if there is ever a change to your flight. Go to the airport and have the people there fix your ticket. Don't do it over the phone or online with United they screwed us up and ended up with flights for our last leg that took off before our first leg.

Wifi Bluetooth features for watching in flight movie was horrible. Screen kept blacking out no connection of sound although it said connected. Other than that smooth trip .

Everything went well except the turbulence what no one have a control of but pilot and crew handled very good!

Good flight. However, when booked flight with United, assumed the layover included by United in San Francisco of 1 hr and 40 minutes was sufficient . Not so and would recommend at least 2 hours or more. Needed to go through US immigration (very long lineups), then pick up bags, take all the way to another terminal, running because we did not have sufficient time. We made the flight because they held the door for us but luggage didn’t follow.

Provide some Asian movies.....Chinese or Taiwan or some of the International films winners and better documentaries

Flight delayed. WiFi connectivity very poor if not existant. Last minute arrival forced me to run to catch my connection.

I was fully checked in the prior night and i was unchecked and then didn’t have a seat when I boarded. Instead of an aisle seat, I was out in the middle seat of the very last row of the plane.

They lost my baggage and I am still struggling to the information and update

It's a long flight and that is always difficult. I was comfortable and well. The movies available were great and the crew was good.

Delayed 24 hours. Should have called it much earlier They provided quality accommodations, food vouchers etc. FINALLY The issues started at 8 AM and they cancelled the flight at 11:30 PM, with no plans for a new flight.

Never had such a lazy first class attendant. Literally spent 60%+ of the flight playing games on her personal phone making up excuses of why she was unavailable.

Flight delay for mechanical. Inbound arrived on time. No one said why mechanical delay.

The flight attendants as well as the gate agent were out to lunch. Nothing extraordinary about their service. American just keeps getting worse every year.

Boarding is always an ordeal. Less dogs on flights. I am highly allergic to dogs and cats. Why are there so many animals these days?

Awful. Original flight was delayed 5 hours. Had to to take a connecting flight instead of direct. Had a 4 hour layover. I missed all of my morning meetings getting in 5 hours later than I was supposed to and had to change to take a later flight the next day to get them back in which cia time another $150.

The attendants were kind and helpful. A sugar-free drink would have been very welcome.

I would like the crew to talk LESS over the PA and specifically about credit card offers. I am trying to work, sleep, watch a movie and the PA was booming about a credit card offer. Could we go back to the days when the customer was more important than selling a credit card?

The pretzels were rather dry and dusty. I do appreciate having a choice between sweet and savory snack.

The long delay was the worst part of the flight.

It was a good experience flying Air Canada for the first time

My original booking with Air Canada turned into a headache

Hoping for small compasation for having to rebook my trip back cause i had to miss 6 hrs work

It was just fine. I managed to make all my connection too sbut had trouble in Munich with no wheel chair and trouble trying to get help from the airport people to get to the other terminal for my flight. Finally a wonderful lady Amelia, helped me to make my flight connection Timon with zero time to spare.

Snacks were just placed and many people were hungry and unaware they were available. Ran out of water bottles. Attendants not available. Missed entire meal.

Board from the back of the plane to the front - it just makes sense. Try it.

Real smooth and easy, Real good leg room in coach!

The flight attendants were not very nice. No smiles On my return trip I was charged for one bag $83.30 although I had purchased the flight including one piece of luggage. Can this be refunded to me? Thank you!

Flight delayed, connection was not at gate listed and so missed, staff were rude at Heathrow, phone tree stupid and difficult, took me 21 actual hours to reach my destination. Almost lost my hotel reservation after walking in a strange city alone after midnight because they would not put me up in a hotel at sfo or heathrow. I will never fly BA again and will tell all people and Instagram followers never to fly BA.

Wish the food and overall service was better. They treat Business class passengers same as economy

Late takeoff, but on time landing. Lost bags, 3 days to find them, still in transit to my location. Power outlets broken, Wi-Fi not working, so much for working on the long flight.

My enetertainmnet screen was broken. Lost my bags. Almost missed my flight do to connection issues with (despite a request) ZERO help from crew. Food was edible. Potatoes pretty good even

The space in the seat was okay, the staff were friendly, the entertainment system, my touch screen was not working and some of the films listed on the website for the flight were not available.

The update about flights and the terminal changes information was great.

Audi visual not working for a whole group of seats in first class. How does a plane leave the main hub in such poor condition? How much that we can’t see so immediately is also compromised?

Great flight. One unique individual assisting in business class who should have not been there. Need more generic meals, not British centric.

I am a 25+ years American Airlines member. British Airways is simply above and beyond in every customer satisfaction category.

Economy seats felt more cramped than other flights we have taken.7 hr, painful sitting hours 6 and 7. Web site difficult to deal with. Originally put in for 1 special meal due to type 2. Meal was awful. Tried to change selection to standard for return flight, on app and website, unable to complete that action.
