There is a storage compartment on the seat in front of you, which you cannot reach without getting out of your seat.. While the seats do go flat, it's not something you can sleep on your side for long. Ended up reclined and sleeping on my back, which is not ideal. accessing my reservation was impossible and had to call Australia to get a seat assignment, which was reassigned by the time we checked in anyway. I care where I sit and book early to have choices. I hate to say it but I was not impressed."
Pros: "13 hours might seem long but other carriers had longer flight times. Qantas was friendly and efficient. The flight itself was smooth. The B747-400 aircraft, while old, was comfortable. I slept for most of the flight with the help of some melatonin. The entertainment selection was good. The service was good. I would happily fly Qantas again on my next Australian adventure."

Also, the male attendant in my row would always bump me pretty severely with his bum while grabbing things from the cart."

This flight is always full, so I don't understand why Qantas does not fix this problem."

You had three seats, the entire middle aisle, yet you decided to take the open seat next to me so they could lay down together. That was nice, I get it, sure. But if your baby is going to cry for hours (and hours, it was a 10.5 hour flight, that poor kid must have been exhausted), pause the movie for a minute, and maybe try to help. I don't mind being inconvenienced for the little ones, I'm a dad of 4 myself, I've traveled a lot and know how it goes. But jesus christ, she's your wife, that's your child, try taking care of them."

So I went to flight services to try and retrieve the jacket and they did almost nothing to try and help me get it. In fact we ultimately lost the jacket because they told us that they probably threw it away with all of the blankets and pillows from the flight. That was very frustrating."

Having Resided in the USA for 12 years I've flow many times across the pacific on each of the airlines and I can confidently says they are lightyears better than any of the American Airlines. On my return trip from Sydney I had hit some extraordinary traffic and it took 2hrs to get to the airport in what is usually a 40min drive. This resulted in me arriving less than 1hour from the flights departure time, the checkin staff did what they could to keep me on the flight as planned. Staff in all areas were great, it always a fresh breath of air when I board a virgin Australia flight, so different than traveling in the US of A...."

Their inability to rectify the situation on the spot resulted in all outbound flights to LA being full by the time I landed in LAX and a subsequent 3-day stay in LA… hence missing my wedding anniversary. Thankfully my husband purchased the first available ticket at US$1,000 and was able to get me back to NYC in time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I am extremely disappointed that Virgin Australia did not amend the flight when I first called - staff in LA further reinforced that Syd ground staff should have been more helpful. On top of all of this I had to pay US$120 for excess baggage due to 20kg restrictions - what international flight only allows 20kg. All in all this has been an extremely disappointing experience and I will not be flying virgin for any further international trips."

Cons: "Ok so. With ticket purchase you only get a carry on bag in economy. To pay for a checked 15kg bag is $68, but only if you pay ahead of time. If you pay at the counter it will cost you $100. The woman at our gate was completely alone, and clearly frustrated by the situation and kept radio-ing for information about where the rest of her crew was. They are flying 787 Dreamliner now and just squeezing as many people as they can on them. I am a 5’10” female and my knees were hitting the seat in front of me. Want to recline your seat? Go ahead, but the bottom of the seat now slides forward as well to compensate for the lack of space. So if you’re tall like myself, you can’t recline your seat because it forces your knees further into the seat in front of you. Lastly, they have this ‘amazing entertainment service’. It’s $8 to watch a movie or play a game of solitaire. Such a scam. Water is the only drink included and the power outlet in my seat didn’t work. They are exactly what they have always been, but dressed up nicer, cheap and crappy airline looking to make as much money as possible. Won’t be flying with them again. For the money I paid to check a bag plus ticket cost, I could have flown a much nicer airline. will do next time!"

The 7kg allowance per person on board with no option to purchase more was really hard for us - 2 adults and a baby - and the diaper bag is counted as part of your 7kg, unlike flying in the US. We had 7-8 hr layovers in cool weather."

When I booked my flight 5 months in advance, I didn't see the option of buying luggage (and also didn't think it mattered at the time because normal airlines like Delta, United, etc. charge the same rate no matter when you decide). Thank goodness I knew to buy luggage before getting to the airport but was still charge $60 AUD (when it would have only been $35 if I did it when I originally booked). And it would have been over $150 if I waited for the airport. WHO THE F CARES WHEN I DECIDE TO CHECK A BAG??? YOU STILL HAVE TO GO TO THE COUNTER NO MATTER WHAT. Jetstar is such a low class airline. Then they wanted to weigh my carry-on which was 9kilo (2k over the limit)... full of all camera gear. The guy literally started yelling at me, made me feel so uncomfortable, and my eyes began to water. He was screaming to another woman in front of everyone that I was WAY over the weight limit and was to be charged $210. He was extremely aggressive. (This was a moment I wish I would have whipped out my phone and took a video... would have gone viral). The woman wasn't any better either. At first she was really aggressive and I hadn't said a word. I just watched them react as if I brought a weapon. She raised her voice at me yelling about the stupid luggage being too heavy.... and at that point I told her that she needed to lower her voice and talk to me like a human (let alone a customer). At that point she did realize that she was being ridiculous and lowered her voice (I might even give her the benefit of the doubt and say the guy may have rattled her). I explained to her that I was carrying expensive camera gear and batteries (which you cannot put in checked luggage) and that I'd be happy to put it in the checked bag (especially since I had extra kilos that I hadn't used). She said I would need to sign a waiver exempting them from being responsible if anything was stolen from my bag. I politely said absolutely not. At that point she looked me up and saw how much I flew with them and then decided to let me on the plane. Which mind you, the plane was 75% EMPTY. After all that. Geez. Never again Jetstar. Poor connection and wait time The long layover was annoying, and proved costly, too. You need to buy a Visa in Australia if your layover is longer than 8 hours. Kayak doesn't warn you about this, and so you have to collect your baggage, go through customs, and buy a Visa. In sum, Kayak shouldn't allow you to purchasing strings-attached tickets from this airline."

Cons: "I arrived for my flight from Narita to Melbourne only to find that I had to walk over 1,000 meters to get to the check-in and terminal even though I was told to go to the Terminal 2 / 3 stop in the Narita train. Once I got to the check-in counter, the line was very long and everyone seemed overworked. By the time I go tot he counter it was getting late. I tried to check in but apparently my eVisa had expired. I have been traveling to Australia countless number of times and normally they process a new visa directly at the airport. I was told by the staff that "this was not possible" and waved me away. They said there was no way to check-in. I stood by the side of the counter and quickly found my own on line service to process a visa. I was able to get my Visa in 10 minutes, and applied for it on my iPhone! My Visa came through, but only just after the cut off time for the flight check in. Despite that fact that flight had not departed, and would not for another 30 minutes or so, they simply closed up the booking counter and left me standing there... They wouldn't even give me any information on what to do or whether my flight would be canceled or credited back. This rates as one of my worst travel experiences. I went back to my hotel in Tokyo, and then decided to fly the next morning on Singapore air. I did not book on Kayak the second time. I don't think I would ever fly JetStar again."

Due to Australia's strict carry-on policy - one item, period - I had to repack my luggage, which contained a fragie printer that had been in my carry-on when I could have it AND a computer bag. The Jet Star allowed two checked pieces, and the agent gave me all the time I needed to make the changes. She then marked the bag fragile, and sent me to the oversize/fragile bay with it. It arrived in PNG rattled, but working normally.The woman was a peach!"

Pros: "We were on our way from syd to bali and just before we reached ocean we turned around and headed back toward Melbourne. As upset as we were about that situation they were extremely accommodating. They said the Landon strip in Bali had broke so we couldn't land. They Bieber, gave us free coffee, tea and juices and gave us all free onboard entertainment. When we got to Melbourne they had set up free shuttle server and out us all up in a very very nice suite and gave us a voucher for breakfast which was more than enough! Then on our way back to bali they again gave us all free onboard entertainment. Very nice! Loved it!"

Cons: "I didn't like that there are a lot of hidden fees with Jetstar. I didn't realize you needed to purchase bags for the flight and was unpleasantly surprised when we got to the airport and were told it was going to be $160 to get our bags on our flight and that if we would be paid for it a day before it would have been substantially cheaper. Also, nothing was provided for free on the flight-not even water or the entertainment for a 6 hour long flight."

Perhaps I should have rearranged my expectations, knowing that this was a "budget" line, but their fees for additional services were worse than AirAsia."
Cons: "Customer Service was terrible. I had issues with checking in, I was made to stand in a queue, 4 times, for the same issue. Unacceptable. I will not fly with Jet Star again if I am in Australia. I would pay double for a better experience."
Pros: "Jetstar had great ticket prices, but if you don't prepay to check bags or get decent food, you'll be nickeled and dimed. $160 to check one bag if you don't prepay! And you can only carry on 7 kilos which is about 15 pounds, which isn't much. Otherwise, the crew was really nice and the seats pretty comfy and a nice, new plane."

We had to rush to get through security just to get to our flight. I was not able to check into my flight via mobile phone, which is a huge inconvenience. I'm also used to flight attendants coming through to offer items for purchase. It just seems like if you didn't prepurchase any food through them, they don't really care about you. I know it's a low cost airline, but they really do nickel and dime you for everything and the cost of check in bags are pretty pricey. If I ever go back to Sydney, I'll probably just pay the extra money and go Hawaiian or Qantas."
