Pros: The flight was good, on time and good service

Pros: New plane.

Cons: Wasn't able to check in online. Had to pay $160 AUD minimum charge for one 15 kg checked bag.

Excellent 9.0

Pros: First I was very happy that the flight to Melbourne was direct, no intermediate city. On that flight Honolulu boarding was by rows from the rear of the plane, which meant the plane boarded the full flight rapidly. The serpentine approach and using both front and rear entry sped up boarding Melbourne to Sydney. The fare was outstanding--I was aware during booking that I would need to add on for baggage, seats, food, entertainment. Jetstar advertises itself as a lowcost airline. I thought I got good value for money. I see most complaints are coming from domestic Australian passengers.

Cons: Seats in coach are 9 across in a Boeing 787, just a wee bit cramped sideways although legroom was not a problem. I do agree that coffee and tea should not be charged for--AUD 4 which is $3. The other problem is one at Sydney where AUD 6 is charged for a five minute bus to the international terminal, Jetstar should make this free.

SYD

Mediocre 3.6

Cons: I didn't like that I wasn't offered a complimentary beverage for a 9+ hour flight. I had to buy a tiny bottle of water for $4. I did not feel like a valued customer at all. I'd gladly pay extra for an airline that treats passengers like actual human beings.

Cons: With Jet Star you can not check in early or buy luggage before the flight when flying to the US and when I went to check my bag the total cost just to Oahu would cost $680 and not even get it to my final location. There was no option to buy my baggage limit early so was surprise de and forced to pay a crazy fee! As it was my last legal day to stay in Australia I had no choice...

Cons: Very long lineups to check in. We arrived more than three hours ahead and were told to come back exactly three hours to check in. When we did, we waited for one hour for our turn. Then we had to pay AUD$225.00 for our one 20 kg check-in bag as no payment was received for the checked bag. We thought we did payment online but somehow the process did not go through to Jetstar. There is a cost for anything on board, even water. We had to dispose all our water before security check in. I would never travel with Jetstar again in the future.

Pros: Food was nice although expensive. Crew was great. the auto tinting Windows was nice.

Cons: We were so dehydrated after such a long flight. The little cups with only a few sips with your meal is not enough. More water! Comedy options for movies were just bad. Our seats would not stay reclined. Painful sitting/sleeping on such a long flight. Jetstar is supposed to be a budget airline but they really aren't cheaper after they nickel and dime you and then bring out the long sword on the cost of luggage. The 7kg allowance per person on board with no option to purchase more was really hard for us - 2 adults and a baby - and the diaper bag is counted as part of your 7kg, unlike flying in the US. We had 7-8 hr layovers in cool weather.

Pros: My son and I had previously taken Jetstar from Bangkok to Melbourne (out of desperation; our Thai visa was expiring), so we already knew about a) no complementary food or beverages (you get one glass of water if you ask, then are pointed to the back of the plane and the tap) b) having to pay to watch movies c) no email confirmation of flight d) uncomfortable seats What we did not know but learned on our next JetStar flight (Melbourne to Honolulu), a week later: -again, no email confirmation, and as we were out of continent, we had no personal cellphone usage so no text to tell us the flight would be leaving 3.5 hours late (other customers were getting conflicting texts) .. -we were charged a criminal $160\each extra for our backpacks at checkout!! They said it was weight, and that our packs were too large for carry-on. (Frankly, upon reading all the other comments here, I am beginning to think this is a scam, and they need to be called on it.) As we paid an extra $320, plus the airline was late, I asked if we might at least get a $10 meal voucher. Answer? No. The airline has to be 4 hours late. -asked for a pillow and blanket for the approximately 10-hr night flight. Answer: "No pillows, and you had to book a blanket in advance." I am outraged.

Pros: While the airline is cheap, that's it. They charge for everything and are rather obtuse about it. It costs extra to select a seat, the airline seems to specialize in putting families with small children in the 'premium' seats which mean those of us who want a quiet trip instead get a screaming child behind, next to, and in front of us. Food is extra! They will give you water if you ask but otherwise, pay.

Cons: The luggage policy is opaque. We boarded in Honolulu, going to Sydney, and checked our bags at no cost in order to limit our carry-on to 7 kilos per their rules. The return flight was to follow the same plan but they told us it would be $160 AUD per piece at check-in! Granted, $160 AUD is only $115 USD but that's OUTRAGEOUS. They looked at the luggage and said we could carry it on! Who makes these rules?! The Aussies have it figured out but if you're an American with no prior experience BEWARE. The Aussies I spoke to refer to Jetstar with a much more derogatory term ending with star. Wonder why. If your goal is a comfortable flight to/around Australia, take another line. If you want cut-rate, cattle-class with a high risk of a screaming child in your ears (I was wearing noise-cancelling headphones), then choose Jetstar. For my purposes, Jetstar is no-star. I won't fly them again.

They were very unhelpful and on topof that kayak did not let us know there would be a $160 fee if we did not order a seat with a baggage. It was not clear on the third party site. It was a very costly for us, a couple who is on a budget. i book From kayak all the time, and know exactly when I am booking an economy ticket vs a more upgrade. We had to pay an unexpected $320 on the day of flight. It was ridiculous and while we were boarding the flight attendants held us up again bc we had not paid the fee. But we tried to pay the fee at the front desk the first time and then we paid it at the gate and then boarded last on the plane. It was awful. Pros: Not much to like other than access to Cathay pacific lounge at SFO Over booked about 50 seats fights in the aisles security on board blamed on a computer glitch delayed over 2 1/2 hours Business class old uncomfortable seats. After flying Singapore business last week I was appalled at what quantas had for the same price I’m dreading my flight back home on quantas I won’t fly them again

Excellent 10.0

Pros: Everything went well. boarding and check in.

Cons: Seat spacing: way too close in economy. When person in front puts seat back, could not stand up to get out of seat. Got leg cramps trying to shuffle out sideways stooped over row of seats in front and rear hitting faces of occupants in my row. Refuse to fly on this airline any more until reasonable seat spacing is provided for price paid. Don't like standing up the whole flight because one cannot get into or out of seat.

Pros: This was the worst airline out of 7 that I used in last 2 months outside the US!! The worst by far anywhere!

Cons: Overcharged for One checked bag at 22 kg, $286.00 Dispicable to say the least and then charging for everything and anything jetstar could get away with. Truly the baggage Scam, nickel and dime mafia!!!

Prices are per person, are for e–tickets and include all taxes & fees in AUD.

We attempt to get accurate prices, however, prices are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller.
At KAYAK we don’t set the prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We compile tonnes of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we can't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car hires can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find, on occasion, that certain prices are no longer available.

If you have more questions or if you have a bad price to report to us,
please send us an and someone from our team will get back to you promptly.
