The car REEKED of marijuana, but we could not exchange it because it was the only one with a toll pass, which did NOT WORK, by the way. Wound up costing me for the pass, plus paying for the tolls. Prepaid the gas, only to find the tank on almost empty, in downtown Chicago. I still have not received confirmation that it was returned after dropping the key in Kalamazoo (although the counter was supposed to have been open that day). Unusually disappointed in Budget. Still trying to figure out who cares enough to complain to...10.0 Wonderful

The reservation was for Union Station. I was not informed that Budget had moved out of Union Station. Their next closest office was closed when I arrived. I was stuck overnight, arriving a day late and incurring additional expense.3 locations in Grand Boulevard

I made a reservation only to find out that that does not matter. When I arrived, I was informed that they did not have any cars available and I was 8th in line to receive one. I asked why I was not contacted ahead of time. The manager was clueless and just shrugged. I waited for several hours and wasted money on ubers getting there and back. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the manager. I asked for a discount because of the tardiness of when my car was available, and he gave it to me without any issue. I had no issue with the local staff and service. It was the company's service that was poor.Cons:
My car was delivered to me 1.5 hours after my confirmed pick up time because, per the staff, the company had overbooked the location. Very poor and unacceptable planning. I waited outside in standing in the sun for 1.5 hours.2.0 Poor

I waited in line for 3 hours at the South Michigan location. There were no cars available. This location is poorly run. When I finally departed, there were still 12 people ahead of me in line waiting for cars. My reservation was at 10am. I left the South Michigan location at 12:30. upon return i learned that the location was closed after being looted during the george floyd protests in chicago. i totally understand that these were unique circumstances, but it would have been great to get a phone call so i didn't have to drive all the way to the south side and back. i feel like that's the only real reason for them to need to contact me, and they insisted on having two contact phone numbers. this would have been a good time to use them!One location in Grand Boulevard

Staff was friendly but did not help me when I called in about the car being dirty on the inside.Cons:
The car was in disgusting condition and clearly had not been cleaned or sanitized at all. Was not helped when I called into the store to report this. Also, the iPass did not work in the tolls. It was truly an awful experience and I would never recommend this service to someone.2.0 Poor

Extra fees & car model restrictions for younger drivers not clear online. No way to see how much insurance would cost before you book. When our car's tire was damaged, we had to stand on the side of the highway for 30 min on hold for roadside assistance, only for them to tell us the best they could do was send a local shop (60 minutes away!) to put on the spare. So the roadside assistance isn't really any help. Because they have so few locations, if you have any car issue outside of Chicago/Indianapolis, you're stuck with taking the time to repair the car, paying for repairs upfront and being charged for any extra time you have to rent the car in order to get those repairs. You can't just exchange the car like you could at a larger chain. Untranslated German on their English website.10.0 Wonderful

Drop off location was wrong on my paperwork from avis. After driving around looking for a place that didn't exist I called avis and directed me to drop the car at another location, and then bring keys to another location. Was going to be late after this as we had to walk to the key drop off. Asked them to wait as we'd be 10 minutes late. They said no problem. No one there to accept keys. Called the national number and was told I have to now walk back to the car and take it to another location. Couldn't do that, already late for a flight. Avis pretty much said tough luck. I asked if I could lock the keys in the glove box because I had to get going. Avis said no and that I would be charged additional fees. Whatever. It's just money, but avis customer service is an abomination.8.4 Very Good
