FAQs - booking Greece flights

  • Where should I fly to explore Crete?

Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands, has two international airports. If you’re staying towards the west of the island, the Chania International Airport "Daskalogiannis" (CHQ) is your closest, located about 20min outside of Chania. A little more central is the Heraklion "Nikos Kazantzakis" International Airport (HER).

  • Where should I stay to explore the Greek Islands?

One of the most popular places to stay from which to explore the Greek Islands is Santorini, with its central location and picturesque towns. You could fly into Santorini Airport (JTR) and stay in Thera, located about 20min from a large ferry wharf where you can catch ferries to many of the nearby islands. Another good option is Mykonos, served by the Mykonos International Airport (JMK).

  • Should I arrange a transfer from the airport?

If you are staying in one of the major centres on the mainland, you will find very useable public transport to transfer you to the city. Athens and Thessaloniki even have a subway system. However, as you head out to the smaller islands, buses can become more irregular. Taxis are readily available at the airports, and a great way to navigate the busy roads.

  • Where should I stay to visit Meteora?

If you’re visiting the UNESCO heritage site Meteora, you will find it’s very easy to access from both Athens and Thessaloniki. Buses and trains regularly run from the cities. The train from Athens is considered incredibly scenic and takes about 4h. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, you will find accommodation in Kalabaka or in nearby Trikala. As one of the most popular sites in the country, it is recommended to book your visit and accommodation before your trip.

  • Are there direct flights to Greece from Perth?

Visitors travelling from Greece can take connecting flights from Perth with various airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways. These flights typically have stopovers in cities such as Dubai (DXB), Doha (DOH) or Singapore (SIN). It's important to check with travel websites like KAYAK for flight schedules and routes, as well as compare prices and book in advance to secure a better deal and travel itinerary.

  • What are some common stopovers for flights to Greece?

Some common stopover cities for flights from Australia to Greece can vary depending on the airline and route choice. Flights with Scoot Airlines have a stopover in Singapore, while Air China flights have stopovers in Beijing (PEK). Other transit cities for this route include Dubai and Doha.

  • Which airport is close to Rhodes, Greece?

An airport close to Rhodes, Greece, is Rhodes Diagoras International Airport (RHO). However, there are no direct flights from Australia to Rhodes. You can travel to Athens Airport, from which you can then book a domestic flight with Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines to Rhodes.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Australia to Greece?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Australia to Greece.

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Australia to Greece with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Australia to Greece?

  • If you are exploring Greece’s mainland, you could consider flying into the Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia (SKG), located just south of Thessaloniki in the north of the country. From here you will also be in a better location to explore the rest of Europe, being 1h 30min from North Macedonia.
  • While there are no direct flights to Greece from Australia, you can find many flights into Athens that only require a single stop over. Where that stopover is depends on the airline. For example, Singapore Airlines offers flights stopping in Singapore, or Etihad Airways stops in Abu Dhabi.

  • Major holidays such as Christmas, New Year's and Easter may affect flights to Greece. During these holidays, airlines usually experience increased demand for flights, resulting in busier airports, higher ticket prices and a greater likelihood of flight delays or cancellations.

It was delayed for 2 hrs. Flight attendants were not attentive.

We boarded but due to a technical issue we spent 4.5hrs on the ground waiting for the issue to be resolved

No kids provided. Instead we were told to have contacted the airline that we have kids and require kids meals. We were not the only ones who inquired about kids meals. It’s odd. Emirates and other airlines give kids meals as standard and before the adult food comes out. The rice in our meals was gluggy and under cooked. The chicken was also raw. Sadly not the best experience with Finn Air. The hostesses tried to compensate with the snacks and drinks but missed the mark by a long way. Especially when paying Emirates/Qantas prices

They cancelled our flight, rebooked, cancelled that one. We are now flying New Zealand Air and need a refund please. How do we get it?

Wifi was not operational for the whole trip. Other than this, flight was well received .

Food no so good. Extra charge to much for front seats cost me £163 then other people sat near me for nothing 🤬

Comfort and customer service from most if the crew was great. The crew reassigning passengers should consider the presence of infants when reassigning seats. Unfortunately a couple of oversized passengers were relocated next to us, making this segment a bit uncomfortable, as there was not only extra leg space required. I ended up swapping seats with my husband so our baby wouldn't be impacted. My husband travelled quite uncomfortable as the reassigned neighbour shoulder and arm ended up on my husband's seat

Business class on this plane was adequate, service, amenities, swag, and crew was amazing!

More leg room or a bed hahaha but in all was one of the best flys I been on

we bought trip insurance from you and could not use it. 'underrated' only return 50 % of trip cost. my doctor told me i have stage 4 cancer and that I might not live till the end of the month..

Our flight was delayed for one hour is their a credit?

it was great honestly for the melbourne flight a kit with blindfold and slippers was probided to each passenger on the seat and the food was really great will definitely recommend people take turkish airlines for travel not just on the sin-melbourne route.

Horrible, hated every part of it. They do not have business class- just tried to make one row. Boarding was a mess- felt like hungry people fighting for food. Will never ever travel in Indigo

My experience with Turkish Airlines was extremely disappointing. I was denied boarding for my flight from Istanbul to Miami because they closed the gate 30 minutes before departure, even though I was present and ready to board. This arbitrary rule forced me to book an alternative flight, not even to Miami but to Atlanta, costing me $1,342.92. Upon arrival in Atlanta, there were no connecting flights to Miami available through Turkish Airlines, so I had to purchase an additional ticket with Southwest Airlines for $270.98. In total, I had to spend $1,613.90 on new flights. As a result, my total travel time extended to 35.5 hours. The flight was overbooked, and implementing such arbitrary rules allows Turkish Airlines to exclude passengers without compensating them, compelling them to purchase new tickets to reach their destination. This practice is unacceptable, and I plan to report it to the Better Business Bureau and the appropriate regulatory authorities.

There many good things about the flight but What could be better is the seat room after a chair reclines in the row ahead of you.

We had a flight from Ny to ist and ist to Athens. Our flight was landed late to the Istanbul due to weather conditions and we couldn’t make the next flight to Athens. Turkish airlines transferred us to Aegen airlines for our ist to ath flights and told us they will transfer our luggages. However when we arrived Athens there was no luggage’s and I was traveling with two little kids. This was horrible experiences. Our ath flights was also early morning and we had to wait until 5pm for the next flight with two kids at the airport and they haven’t provided any hotel or food to us. We paid hotel with our own expense and also for food. That’s was horrible experience. I am very disappointed.

You can understand why Turkish Airlines are rated so highly; the whole experience was really good indeed. Aircraft itself was spacious, comfortable, and very well appointed. The crew were great, friendly and helpful. All round a great service and good value. Istanbul airport is also a remarkable place. Highly recommended.

Our plane transfer in Instanbul was too tight. Our flight into Instanbul was 30 minutes late and by the time we got off of the gateway to the terminal they were already calling last call for our next flight whos gate was in a total different terminal. We had to run thru the airport and I have mobility issues. I do not recommend offering flight packages with this tight of a transfer schedule.

Very friendly crew and a very clean plane. The entertainment system was great with films worth seeing. It's difficult to be critical.

It was a quick flight, and it was fine. The only thing was my seats wouldn’t recline because I was in the last row. It was a 1am flight so that made it hard to sleep. But otherwise it was fine.

Qatar was pretty OK for their services but Arangrant was awful at theirs and frankly lied to me. Qatar offers four business class fares and only three of them allow lounge access. This is a horrible policy when you pay so much for business class and shame on them for denying the simple use of their lounges for this confusion. When I requested my business class ticket with Arangrant I knew this and specifically told them I would only purchase the lowest class business seat that would still permit me lounge access on all legs of my trip. They lied to me and said I did and then I was refused this service on my return flights. I had no less than 4-8 schedule changes and got screwed by a late departure from DCA on my double connection to JNB. I lost nearly a full day on my outbound and then had little to no use of the lounges on my outbound flights. To then be denied access on my return flights made the 27 hour trip home pretty awful. Kayak should no longer work with Arangrant as they are dishonest and liars. Qatar should price all four of their business class fares to include lounge access and stop the insanity they have forced on people. My return trip home nearly ruined my entire trip to South Africa and I blame Arangrant for telling me lies and for Qatar for offering insane rules and regulations on such expensive business class fares. For the money I paid to Qatar, I did not receive the full services I was promised. I will probably never use Arangrant and their ignorant services ever again. I will question whether I ever fly on Qatar Airways again as well. When you pay so much and get such little in return, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Arangrant gives the whole industry a bad name and Qatar is not far behind them. I can honestly say that the wretched service and way I was treated by both have soured me on travel companies and airlines. It is bad enough that we have an idiot, felon, racist and bigoted president and administration to contend with while he has started an illegal war, I did not expect to get screwed over by Arangrant and Qatar as well. Shame on all of you.

Very poor No information given to why we turned around.. No one at airport to help

Friendly and discreet staff. Could have done with a few more offers of water/snacks overnight. Movie and tv selection notably poor. Seats not especially comfortable

Awesome hospitality, awesome staff, awesome food & awesome travel time. Thanks

The check-in and crew staff were wonderful. The food was reasonable. The online side Qatar was very poor. Seats were very tight and not very comfortable for a 14 hour flight!

riding in first class, you don't expect every time you order your dinner or breakfast that the first thing the stewardess says is Let me see if we have any left. Also, the food selection was not great: 3 of 4 entrees had mushrooms and I dont eat mushrooms, the 4th item was 'let me see if we have any left' and this was within 30 mins of entering the flight! Same experience level, it didn't feel first class this round.

Do not overbook flights and kick out confirmed ticketed passengers :-(

I found it weird that the quality of the flight different from Australia to Doha than the Doha to Berlin leg. The quality of the toiletries pack (was in a box from Australia) and then a proper bag from Doha. The biggest variation was the inflight entertainment, which had a significantly shorter amount of content compared to the Doha flight. My QSuite seat was also broken and did not recline all the way flat. Wasn’t the best and I wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid cash for the flight.

The plane from Dublin to Doha was quite comfortable. I was in economy and the seats and rows were very tight. The man in front of me reclined his seat and it made my screen incredibly close to my face and I wasn’t able to take my tray down and my knees were pressed against the seat. I had to ask three times for him to pull his seat up but in his defence he hadn’t even reclined it far, the rows were just too close. I had a pain in my side by the end of the flight from the chairs which were quite worn and not very padded or supportive. It was a significantly inferior plane to the plane from Doha to Sydney and vice versa.

Just snacks, could have more options.boarding was good. Everything else was good.

Good flight. There were a few issues with the flat bed. It was some technical issues. Otherwise everything was good

It was fantastic. The flight from Chicago to Abu Dahbi was fantastic. The crew, food and service were amazing. Everything was handled by the crew member assigned to us , Nicholas, was usually done before we asked for it. Highly recommend Etihad!

Seat space was tight and uncomfortable. There was hardly any cushioning giving me a terrible tail bone ache. Getting and out was extremely cramped. We paid for seat choices and felt totally ripped off. Food was mediocre. By the time the servers served 2 or 3 rows they ran out of this or that option as we saw on the inbound trip also. This is infuriating. Entertainment choices were extremely limited for such a long haul. The screen froze on occasion and did not switch off when the on off button was pressed. When it did it came back on its own in 5 seconds. The airlines has gone downhill since last year.

The WiFi was not compatible on both my phones (Vivo Y30 5g and Samsung Galaxy A32) with up-to-date android software.

Did not provided with option for class upgrade. Staff at gate was not able and willing to accommodate with class upgrade, eather with plenty empty spots in business and first class.

Boarding catastrophic let alone have to claimb the plain rather than using jetway. 5.5 hr delay leaving had to do stop in Lgw for a new crew which further compounded the delay. Connecting flight would not wait and had to pend a night in a hotel. Curiously my seat would not go full flat.

1st time with. Etihad Airways and it was amazing from check in to crew. Great flight.

Food and beverage service have rooms for improvement .there were no entertainment facilities available

The food is good, but i am nit used to those foods so I can’t really be more detailed.

The legs room was not enough at all. The seats are not comfortable enough for long journey but other than that it was very good

Boarding was not as per sequence Light snacks were not available Window had hair oil stains and water condensation

Scoot is a no frills budget airline. Do not expect a legacy airline experience.

Finishes were quite worn, including our very scratched up seatback. No entertainment available, and the WiFi (even for “ScootHub”) was very slow. Crew were somewhat friendly.

WiFi didn’t work on both sectors so made killing time harder - planes clean modern and good flight crew - would do again if WiFi works

Boarding was not accordingly after front seat, bmf then back seat. This delayed for at least 40mins or more. The staff at Jakarta can do better. Is chaos at the entry to board the plane. This tarnished Scoot reputation when everyone was talking about it.

Was on scoot plus. The only good thing about the flight was the spacious seats. Tables and armrests were extremely dirty Food: bad Entertainment: non existent Wifi: unable to connect, then was painfully slow that we couldn’t even send messages Good thing we had a night flight, so we just slept throughout.

Not clear why boarding passes could only be issued at the counter and not through the kiosk. I had already check-in on the web, so waiting to obtain a boarding pass 1.5 hours before the actual flight defeats the purpose of early web check-in.

no charging point. food offering is limited and very much on the budget line. Overall is not satisfying for such a price and duration of flight.

Me and my Partner were in seats 6A and 6B. (Which we paid a premium for). Unfortunately the person is seat 6C was large and because of his size my Partner was squashed to the point of discomfort and unable to sit properly. We requested to be moved to some empty seats and two hours into the flight the crew moved us. Perhaps it’s time airlines began checking passenger sizes to ensure they don’t encroach into fellow passengers seating space!

Instead of the flight attendants talking to each other they should have been monitoring the passengers. The person beside me took a phone call literally 30 seconds before the plane landed. As we were going down the runway ( from landing ) a person in the row in front of me and behind me made phone calls; CRAZY
